Excellent practical reference
This book gives a great practical foundation for horse floating in a vet practice.The illustrations provide a very thorough guide to various pathologic dental conditions and their remedies.Equipment is also discussed in detail.If you can only afford one book on equine dentistry, I would recommend this one.Best on the "How-To's".

Excellent resource for Vets, Techs, and Horse Owners
I can't say enough about this book, it has enlightened me.It's out of print I think, b/c it was hard for me to get my hands on one, but the effort was well worth it!

Great asset to the horseowner
As a studying equine Bowen Therapy practitioner AND a new 'first' horse owner, I am continually scouring the internet for as much information as I can find to fill my the bottomless pit of 'input' desire!
Even though I happily conduct Bowen therapy of my equine friends with amazing results, I still like to know what other natural therapies would be an asset.
My greatest desire to always and in all ways to assist my horse to keep healthy and happy for the rest of his life and hence the purchase of this book.
I have yet to read it in any depth, but on quick flick through look to be a wealth of information.

A great resource book
This is a great book, it has actual photos with the meridians drawn over top of them. The downside is all the points along the meridians are not specified, only popular points for certain conditions. The other great book to compliment this one is called "Accu-Cat' (or dog etc), which has drawings of the meridians with each point indicated.

A must have....

Handy Reference
This book came in handy as soon as I received it.It is well-organized and full of excellent explanations and suggestions for homeopathic solutions to pet problems.

Excellent Resource on Natural Healing
Having read some of the author's other books and articles, I know how knowledgeable she is regarding natural healing. This book is a good introduction for those who are unfamiliar with natural healing methods, and an excellent reference guide on everything from nutrition to healing with sound. The organization of the book makes it easy to find what you need, and as someone who does energy healing with animals, I was especially pleased with the content. Although medication is sometimes necessary and has its place, there are also side effects. Viewing animals as energetic beings allows us to address their well-being on an energetic level, which can prevent illness from occurring in the first place. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent book!
This book is absolutely awesome! It begins by explaining what alternative medicine is, why pets get sick, and making the switch from allopathic to holistic medicine. It also describes, from A to Z, common ailments and how various vets treat them. There are snippets about how pets treat themselves for certain diseases, when to call the vet, and anecdotes pertaining to the ailment. It also has an extensive alternative healing resource guide.

Excellent and highly informative
Although I do have a background in science (pre vet sciences and more), and holistic methods (started with me then kidney failure in cat due to misinformed diet information from "main stream" vets) I started researching and found this book along with others. (Dr. Pitcairn's for example)

Highly informative, and although another on this thread mentioned too complex - well nutrition and healing methods are not simple and need some "home work" as with anything.(although I do have to admit when a pet is sick, one does want assistance, and now here in NYC there are holistic vet.One can go in informed, educated and with best interest of pet cared for thanks to books such as this one.

That said - I found her book well laid out, highly educational and well referenced with links to other resources.

I read in this book thay beef is bad to feed your pet,however; when i read deeper the book states that one should feed the pet a beef knuckle as a means of nutrition. BUYER BEWARE!

A little too in depth for the Average Dog Owner...
I purchased this book thinking that it would give me simple at home remedies (like cooking white rice and chicken for digestive ailments)...Um, not quite.
It is definitely "holistic", meaning most, if not all, the remedies call for ingredients not found in the typical (even holistic) household. Fresh/ Raw Bayberry, Bach flowers, Red Clover, Calendula, Devil's Claw, Goldenseal etc - not the liquids or pills, but the fresh herbs. Sorry, but I don't have fresh herbs just laying around the house and you can't find them at your local health food store either.
Needless, to say I haven't tried any of the remedies, but I have found it useful for info purposes. For instance, the book recc putting boiled Calendula on wounds. Instead I bought a Calendula salve/ointmet and use it for minor cuts for my pet and I. The chapter on dog food/diet is very imformative, and my pet is living proof of what a good dog food can do for your pet.
I think this book would be a good resource for a family that has tried "conventional vet" medicine with no relief, and is looking for an alternative form of disease treatment.

I ran across this book when my elderly dog was diagnosed with a heart murmur and heart disease.When conventional medicine couldn't help I decided to give natural medicine a try.I used some of the remediessuggested for heart disease and was frankly astounded at his improvement. Helpful Resource
The information in this book is truly helpful. As someone who has been looking for holistic remedies for myself, it suddenly occurred to me, "wouldn't I want the same for my animals?" Absolutely! Immediately I began looking for resources. "Holistic Aromatherapy for Animals" gave me many tips and encouragement. When it came to recommendations for purchasing essential oils, however, I disagree with the author's opinion of not using companies that use a multi-level or networking format to purchase the oils. Some of the best oils on the planet are available this way. I personally use these oils on myself and my animals and would trust nothing else. Please don't throw out the "baby with the bathwater" in looking for quality essential oils.

Holistic Aroma Therapy for Animals
This book is well written, easy to comprehend and provides detailed information. The reading is enjoyable and very educational. I particularly appreciate the care taken to describe what makes high quality products, and why and how so many product are not truly pure or of the highest quality. I also appreciated the many excellent references and the case studies that were sited.

The information is science based. Cautions for use are emphasized and described for different species. The descriptions of individual essential oils and hydrosols are excellent. There are many recipes for specific problems. This a book that I highly recommend to anyone interested in the subject regardless of their level of expertise.

Awesome informative book
I found this book to be well written with pertinent information. It has a great review of essential oils as well as hydrosols SAFE for pets. Great for anyone looking to formulate more healthful remedies for their dog or cat. Great selection of recipies. What was a bit disappointing is a lot of the resources no longer exist. Doing a search brought up tons of locals so I would say this is a definite ADD to your Library.

For pets and people...
This book offers a thorough analysis of many herbs and aromatics that are used to create essential oils. Important differences between animal species and treatments are made very clear. It's good for people too.

An amazing veterinary surgeon
I have not finished reading Allen Schoen's book, but have enjoyed it immensely so far.It is an insight into the life of a vet, but especially for Allen having to overcome so many prejudices towards the way most of the people he was working with looked at animals and showed little empathy towards them.Having read his earlier book, Love, Miracles, and Animal Healing I wanted to learn more from this amazing man.His interaction with animals he treats is amazing, and for anyone who loves animals I highly recommend this book.

Informative and Touching Book
I used this book for a class I have taught on the human-animal bond. The 20 students loved the book, as did I. For people who already respect animals, it articulates issues. For people whose consciousness needs to be raised, it clarifies issues without being preachy. The stories are moving and enlightening. This is a book that is both educational and kind.
