Excerpt: Paul Frederic Bowles (December 30, 1910 November 18, 1999) was an American expatriate composer, author, and translator. Following a cultured middle-class upbringing in New York City, during which he displayed a talent for music and writing, Bowles pursued his education at the University of Virginia before making various trips to Paris in the 1930s. He studied music with Aaron Copland and in New York wrote music for various theatrical productions, as well as other compositions. He achieved critical and popular success with the publication in 1949 of his first novel The Sheltering Sky, set in what was known as French North Africa, which he had visited in 1931. In 1947 Bowles settled in Tangier, Morocco, and his wife, Jane Bowles followed in 1948. Except for winters spent in Sri Lanka (then known as Ceylon) during the early 1950s, Tangier was his home for the remainder of his life. Paul Bowles died in 1999 at the age of 88. His ashes are buried in Lakemont Cemetery in upstate New York. Paul Bowles was born in Jamaica, Queens, New York City the only child of Rena (née Rennewisser) and Claude Dietz Bowles, a dentist. His childhood was materially comfortable, but Bowles senior was a cold and domineering parent, opposed to any form of play or entertainment, feared by both his son and wife. According to family legend, he ha...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=229834 ... Read more

Product Description
What is going on at the School of Visual Arts? The Senior Library is an attempt to answer that question. It is the first in a series of annual publications meant to document the work of the graduating class at SVA in the areas of graphic design, advertising, 3-D design and broadcast digital video each year. ... The Senior Library is divided into three volumes. Volume one is a purely visual catalog. Volume two, Word from the School of Visual Arts, corresponds to each piece presented in volume one, along with figures and illustrations supporting the interviews. Volume three, Sort of Clarendon, is a students completed project. It is my hope that these three volumes will not only inform and cross-reference each other, but also, ultimately, create a more in-depth view of what is going on at SVA now, providing a barometer of what is to come in the fields of design and advertising. ... History The school was granted specialist Sports College status in September, 2003 Balby Carr was granted Specialist Science status in early 2008. The college has won many sports trophies and certificates. Present The English department has been voted the best department in the school for the past 3 years by an annual student survey, but was singled out as a weakness in the 2009 OFSTED report citing a need to improve teaching and learning and an inability to attract good quality staff. Since receiving official sports college status, the college has been extensively redeveloped and includes several new additions to the campus such as all-weather sports pitches, campus wide WLAN access points and improved facilities for current students. Whilst the college specialises in sports courses and sports related science courses, the old Balby Carr School still functions as it did before 2003 with students from 11 18 years being able to continue to study as before, whilst at the same time, the college is able to offer more advanced courses to older students. City Learning Centre A City Learning Centre (CLC) is also located on the Balby Carr campus. Doncaster South CLC was opened in 2004... ... Read more

Excerpt: The École nationale de cirque (English: ) is a professional circus school located in Montréal, Québec, Canada. It is a school for higher education in arts; after the great schools of music, dance and theatre, the NCS also offers academic subjects at the secondary and college levels. It is the only circus school in the Western world to offer the complete spectrum of professional education, from preparatory programs for young people ages 9 and older to professional placement for graduate artists, as well as training for circus instructors and trainers. At the Centre Immaculée-Conception, a circus school begins to attract young artists interested in theatrical acrobatics. A real passion for all circus arts develops, training expands. Programming evolves as students of various backgrounds come together, united by a firm intention to become true circus artists. Very soon the Centre Immaculée-Conception can no longer contain the rapid growth of the National Circus School (NCS). In 1989 the School moved to the Gare Dalhousie facilities in Old Montreal. The only institution to offer professional circus teaching in North America, the NCS has become one of the world's major circus schools. Meanwhile, contemporary circus arts experience exponential growth throughout the world. The need to train a greater number of versatile and highly skilled artists, by now the hallmark of the Quebec circus, is apparent. The NCS launches into a new phase of growth that sees it relocating to the Cité des Arts du Cirque as a founding member, along with Cirque d...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=4277294 ... Read more

Product Description
The visual world is about an individual'sperception; while one unfolds the concepts of visualphenomenon multiple unknown characters and layerscome to fore. The realization of these changes isaccredited to elapse of time and cognition of brainand eye. In the first layer the characters areneutral and unidentified on the given picture plane. They create what is called the retinal images in theback of the eye. Once the brain registers thesefragments in each other's proximity it is able torecognize the image as a whole. The recognition mayalso be accredited to historicizing. The essence ofvisual perception lies in the analysis of the view;this could be in either of the following two ways;exploring the real from the created illusions orexperiencing the overall space by getting integratedwithin, through the view. Visual phenomenon isstudied over Peter Eisenman's Wexner Center; whichis probably one of his unintentional design thatenvelopes the optical illusion phenomenonartistically and over Mack Scogin Merill ElamArchitects' Knowlton School of Architecture whichidentifies Maurice Merleau Ponty's phenomenology itits spatial quality. ... Excerpt:Victoria School of the Arts is a public school in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada operated by Edmonton Public Schools, offering students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 an arts-focused education. Now known as just Victoria School for the arts, it was formerly known as Victoria Composite High School or "Vic Comp" for short. In 1985, Bob Maskell took over the position of school principal with the intention of transforming the school from a vocational school with a low enrollment and bad reputation to an arts-based alternative school. He sold off the vocational equipment to finance large-scale renovations, and recruited a staff qualified in a broad range of arts disciplines. This staff included Tami Dowler-Coltman, a drama specialist who would help to write new curriculum and classes for the school. Tami also had her work at "Vic" recognized by receiving the Prime Ministers excellence in teaching. Because of the work of Maskell and Dowler-Coltman Victoria School of the Arts has become one of the top arts-focused schools in North America. The school is an International Baccalaureate school, and offers the IB program for grades K-12: one of the only schools in Canada to do so. There are five programs students may pursue at Victoria; Design and New Media, Visual Arts, Theatre, Dance, and Music. In addition to its academic and arts programs, Victoria School is known for its cheer teams. The 1994 Large Squad team won the Suzuta...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=8434118 ... Read more

Excerpt:The Sudbury Valley School was founded in 1968 in Framingham, Massachusetts, United States. There are now over 35 schools based on the Sudbury Model in the United States, Canada, Denmark, Israel, Japan, Netherlands, Australia, Belgium and Germany. The model has two basic tenets: educational freedom and democratic governance. The school is attended by children from the ages of 4 to 19. The school's educational philosophy asserts that giving children trust and responsibility at an early age enables them to learn what they want, why they want it, and how to achieve it. Students at the school are free to choose how to spend their time. Democratic freedom is also a central tenet of the educational philosophy. The school is run by the weekly Campus Meeting, which uses a modified form of parliamentary procedure. Students and staff are invited to participate in the running of the school via the Campus Meeting, with each participant receiving one vote. The meetings are conducted using Robert's Rules of Order. The Campus Meetings determine rules and regulations for all aspects of the school, including finances, new rules, and the election of staff. To keep the school running smoothly, it also creates Clerks, Committees, and Campus Corporations. Clerks are essentially administrative officers that handle tasks within the Campus, such as grounds maintenance or attendance records. Committees handle larger tasks, such as sch...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=21063145 ... Read more
