5-0 out of 5 stars Wising Up Ritual resources for women of faith in their journey of aging
At last, a book to make the definite changes in a woman's life effective with a "ritual," and easier to accept. So many begin to need a walker to aid in walking, and are reluntant to have it.I particulary appreciate a "ritual" for that occasion and other changes in a woman's life. ... Read more

This volume consists of a committee report that sets forth an agenda of much-needed research on this issue, supported by six papers contributed by eminent social scientists. The research agenda presented is structured around two general themes: occupational wage differentials and discrimination and wage adjustment strategies and their impact. Product Description
Are women paid less than men when they hold comparable jobs? Is there gender bias in the way wages are set? Or can wage differences between men and women be explained by legitimate market forces? "Pay Equity: Empirical Inquiries" answers these questions in 10 original research papers. The papers explore race and gender-based differences in wages, at the level both of individuals and of occupations. They also assess the effects of the implementation of comparable worth plans for private firms, states, and - on an international level - for Australia, Great Britain, and the United States. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Prayer of Jabez for Women
Prayer of Jabez for Women is a good reading. I wish I had read it sooner.
It made things clearer to me then the Prayer of Jabaz.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reinforcement of Prayer of Jabez
I have read and re-read the Prayer of Jabez Book by Bruce Wilkinson and came across the Prayer of Jabez for Women in the Library.I read it in one day.It is an easy read and a reinforcment of the Prayer of Jabez; however, it is from a woman's view.I enjoyed the book as well as the stories told relative to women. I recommend this book to other women.

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful Message InA Small Book
This is a great book, wonderful insights, I read it New Years Eve, great way to start my new journey.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!
This book was so thought pravoking and such a blessing. I recommend this for anyone that feels that their life is not where they want it to be.

3-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational, Yet Repetitive
I would have enjoyed this book more if I had not already read The Prayer of Jabez by Bruce Wilkinson. This version lays out much of the same information, with a few insights for women tucked in.The overall message of both books (which is valuable) is the same.I felt I was reading something that I had already read before. However, the prayer works, as many people have discovered. If you have not read one of the books from this series and you are looking to have a closer walk with God, you will find inspiring information. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Anthology of Spirituality
What is different about women's spirituality? This collection of essays addresses that question in many ways.Organized into four sections, the first, "Issues in Women's Spirituality" includes definitions of terms.Conn defines Christian spirituality as "the human capacity of self-transcending knowledge, love and commitment as it is actualized through the experience of God, in Jesus the Christ, by the gift of the Spirit.Women are encouraged to critique socially accepted beliefs about themselves and to accept only what is mature, not necessarily what is considered "feminine."

The essay by Sandra M. Schneiders "The Effects of Women's Experience on their Sprituality" is worth the cost of the book. She meticulously points out the effects on women of "feminine" socialization and their exclusion from ministry, and the effects on them of the masculinizing of God and of religious experience. While no one would refute the negative aspects of these influences, Schneidersalso notes positive ways women have maximized these factors. She concludes that women's suffering, "inexcusable as it is, has also been a fire in which much gold is refined."Such a hopeful outlook sets a refreshing standard for this book.

The second section "Women's Psychological Development" contains selected portions from current feminists psychological theorists, such as Gilligan, Baker Miller, Goldenberg and others.I found Robert Kegan's chapter on five stages of "The Evolving Self" the most creative in identifying with my own development.

The third section "Characteristics of Religious Development" includes some of the classic writings of mystics as well as essays on stages of faith and our understanding the person of God.Section four, "Revisioning the Tradition of Christian Spirituality" deals with such theological questions as the gender of God and whether Jesus' maleness is a stumbling block for women. In "The Incomprehensibility of God and the Image of God Male and Female" Elizabeth Johnson gets at the root of questions about naming God.

I found this book helpful in grasping what is distinctive about women's spirituality.Issues of Christian spirituality transcend denomination and the fact that the theological works were written by Catholic never limits their value for all Christians.

(This review was previously published in "Daughters of Sarah" Nov/Dec 1987.)

4-0 out of 5 stars In depth perspectives tying feminism (real) with Catholicism
Although primarily Catholic in content, it is rich in basic Christian theology. An excellent read for one who questions equality issues facing the "90's" woman. A practicing, faithful Catholic or Christianwoman may see limits on the role of women in the church. The essays arerichly developed in this area .One section of the book deals with currentpsychology and provides some comparison on issues such as psychologicaldevelopment (Jung) and highlights a concept that "women's spiritual experience" is not represented in historical tradition. Each essay iswell footnoted. This is not light reading and there are no interpretivecommentaries for someone just beginning to research their spirituality. This should definitely be on every spiritual woman's bookshelf as aresource.I am glad it is on mine. ... Read more
