Product Description

Little Monster spends a day at work with his father. First he has to dress and choose which tie to wear. Then he must travel with Dad and all the other commuters. At work he eats the cookies at the meeting, colors the graphs his father makes on the computer, goes to the cafeteria for lunch and even stops off for a drink on the way home. Monster thinks his father has it easy at work. Sarah Dyer's highly entertaining portrayal of a child's-eye view of the adult world of work is full of wit and charm and will be enjoyed by children and adults alike.

3-0 out of 5 stars A good resource, a bit dated
This book has some very practical advice for elminating asthma triggers in the home and how to prevent flare-ups at school, summer camp etc.

The book was printed in 1994, so it is ten years old, and there are new medicines and puffers available today, but the theory in the book still applies and it was very helpful.

Product Description
"Bye-Bye Boardroom" looks into the minds and hearts of modern women who have made the decision to become stay-at-home moms. With comic relief Type-A former professional whiz kid Rachel Hamman shares the intimate secrets of her first days as a carpool-driving mom, then opens her book to the real-life adventures of other young mothers who confess their deepest thoughts about the choices they have made to leave their corporate life for a truer mission. As it redefines "Women's Lib" with a laugh for a new generation, "Bye-"Bye Boardroom" gives stay-at-home moms a true voice, a sense of community, and a chance to participate in the humorous "group therapy" the contributors offer in the frustrations, utter chaos, and yes, joy they encounter as mothers with their children. In the end, the book validates their decisions. Be it at the helm of a company, behind the instruments of an airplane, chairing a black-tie ball, or nurturing their children, the book proves that this generation of women has the freedom to choose their own path on any given day. They are held back only by their own internal dialogue and self-imposed boundaries. Through "Bye-Bye Boardroom," women can laugh and cry together and move on to find balance in their lives. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An incredible book!
People will love or hate this book.If you're looking for a step-by-step guide to get everything you want out of life, and the encouragement to get it, then this book is perfect. If you want a road map to success that has been verified and validated by the author's use of it, my family's use of it and others use of it as well, then get this book now.

If you ever look at other people who are highly successful and extremely happy in their own lives, and ask yourself, "What is it they have that I don't," then this is the book that will show you that you DO have what it takes, and how to get everything you want out of life. It's like a map to the buried treasure that you always knew should be there in your life.

The one thing that it is not is an "Oh pity poor me" book. It's not one of these "touchy-feely, let's just make excuses" books. It's not like some drill sergeant yelling at you, but this book does an incredible job of moving you from where you are to where you want to be.It's like having your own experienced life coach 24/7.The most incedible thing was, whenever my daughter or I had a question, it was as if the book "knew" what their question was and answered it in the next chapter!

After reading this book, you will read it again within a month.... and I will promise you, you will reread it again and again, at least once year.

There is knowledge here. There is wisdom here. There is what you want out of your life here in this book!

1-0 out of 5 stars Author is not a true stay-at-home Mom!
This book is completely unrealistic, and the title is misleading. Most people define a stay-at-home Mom as someone who leaves the paid workforce upon having children to stay at home and raise them during their first few formative years. By this definition, the author is not a true stay-at-home Mom because she did not quit working until her children were both conveniently out of diapers and in grade school full-time -- ages 5 and 13. In fact, her daughter was actually old enough to help care for her son. Also, she did not seem to experience any effects of loss of income that most SAHMs do, so by quitting the working world, she was able to go on a permanent vacation, complete with girls' weekends away, massages, spa visits, weekends away with her husband, and one luxury car after another. In fact, she never even mentions who took care of her children during the first 5-13 years of their lives while she was still working. I was appalled that, upon leaving her job, she made her husband -- now the sole breadwinner -- pick up the children at school!

In addition to being misleading and unrealistic, it is poorly written, with cliche and sometimes crude humor. She's not a SAHM, and she's not a writer, either.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!!
Heartwarming, entertaining and insightful stories from real moms. This book is an excellent resource for all moms!

1-0 out of 5 stars Good...if you're looking to relate to other materialistic mothers.
I read this book on Dr. Laura's recommendation and I was incredibly disappointed. The author considers herself a stay-at-home-mom (SAHM).That is, she decided to become one when her oldest was 13, and her youngest 5.Hmmm, so that means they're both in school and done with potty-training--convenient.She's got her custom-built home on a lake in Florida and has money for flying lessons and jet-setting across the country anytime her heart desires.Wow, what sacrifice. There were a few sweet stories by other women in the book, but for the most part, women wrote about the travesty of having to give-up designer shoes and couture clothes and risk having their minds go to mush by becoming a SAHM.I don't get it--why does becoming a SAHM mean one is relegated to becoming politically and intellectually obtuse?Like another reviewer noted, such is not the reality for the majority of most SAHMs.I definitely do not recommend this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Only for wealthy stay at home moms
It's nice that she could continue to drive a BMW and get massages while staying home all day while her children were in school - this book has little to do with the reality of most stay at home moms. The book is well written - just definately not what I expected. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific info throughout infancy & childhood
Wouldn't it be nice if all doctors were like this?

Wootan embarks on new territory to share with parents an UNDERSTANDING of childhood health and dieases and the many other random concerns that pop up over the years.

Discovered this book while caring for an infant but I've used it dozens of times over the last decade + and I'm sure I always will. Some things never change.

Will give you a profoundly HELPFUL knowledge of diseases that have been around for ages and some more recent ones, too.

And a secure knowledge of HEALTH.

Very highly recommended for any new parent and especially for any parent who feels insecure, jittery, tentative, confused or overwhelmed by the prescious new life that has graced their world - and the FLOOD of information out there.Relax, it's not that complicated!

This book will give you an amazing amount of confidence.Especially after the first couple of times you need, you use it and it works.

If I could, I'd send this book home with the new baby!

Thanks SOOOO much, Dr. Wootan for an amazing contribution that should grace the bookshelf of every new parent.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book should be on your bookshelf!
If you enjoyed the book "How to Raise a Healthy Child...In Spite of Your Doctor" by Robert Mendelsohn, you will love this book by George Wootan. It is a natural extension of the principals Dr. Mendelsohn presents, and for good reason. Dr. Wootan encountered Dr. Mendelsohn while beginning to research and write this book, and he gave him a new perspective on the pediatrician's role in children's healthcare. He asked him how many times he ever discovered a problem during a routine evaluation that the mother did not already suspect. The answer was, "once."

"Take Charge of Your Child's Health" outlines a complete program for parents to examine their own child on a routine basis, so as to be able to identify what is normal and abnormal for that particular child. Doctors rely on the information given to them by the parents, and as such it should be accurate in order to arrive at accurate conclusions.

The book goes on to describe all the major bodily systems and explains in detail most of the problems any parent would ever encounter with their child's health. It provides simple, logical and safe methods for treating these problems at home, and gives guidelines on when outside help is absolutely necessary (which is very rare). Above all, Dr. Wootan urges parents to take a deep breath and "make a cup of tea" whenever an urgent situation arises, as a calm, clear head is truly what will save your child's life.

Another thing I really loved about this book was its thorough examination of all the childhood vaccines and vaccine-available diseases, enabling parents to make an informed decision on which vaccines they choose for their children. Dr. Wootan does a fabulous job of providing a balanced and level-headed look at this very controversial subject. Such an explanation on vaccines is extremely difficult to come by.

For parents who truly believe that they are responsible for their children's health, and are not willing to hide behind what the doctor tells them to do, Healing Our Children: Because Your New Baby Matters! Sacred Wisdom for Preconception, Pregnancy, Birth and Parenting (ages 0-6) by Ramiel Nagel, is another must-read.

5-0 out of 5 stars A terrific resource!
Because my twins were premature, I felt I had a crash course in a BUNCH of medical jargon. As time passed, I realized that the quality of their care depended upon how much I know. This book is a wonderful tool for parents to become a strong advocate for their child's health and well being and I HIGHLY reccomend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Essential Guide
Somehow I have collected quite a collection of home medical guides - I have everything from the Mayo Clinic's Guide to your baby's first year to Sears and Sears's "The Baby Book".In "Take Charge of Your Child's Health", Wooten and Verney have done a masterful job of providing medical information and parenting advice that every parent needs.Their review of the pros and cons of immunization, for example, is based on the latest science and is the best I have read. They provide excellent advice on dealing with fevers, ear infections, colic, allergies and a myriad of conditions both minor and serious that parents may encounter.A strong thumbs up for Take Charge of Your Child's Health . . . . ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful, As Far As It Goes
This is a well-written book from the "birth-order guy", Kevin Leman. I've read several of his other books and I enjoy his writing style. You'll enjoy reading this book.

Having said that, I think there are better single-parenting resources available elsewhere. Look around here on Amazon for other titles and compare the reviews. My personal favorite is "Raising Great Kids On Your Own" which was just recommended by Focus on the Family. It's available here on Amazon also.

Kevin Leman is a smart, accomplished counselor and author: this book is worth the price. Meanwhile look around and compare other titles. If you're a busy single mom on a budget, spend wisely!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hope for single parents
Dr. Leman is very down-to-earth with his advice on how single parents can create a great environment for children even without both parents.Although both parents are ideal, it's not ideal for all situations, and this book gives hope for those who were without it.

5-0 out of 5 stars dumped and rejected? guilt-laden? take heart!
as a single-mom-to-be, this book has been invaluable in telling me mostly what i already know and a lot of what i need to hear anyway. ladies (and gentlemen), give it a read. it will make you laugh, cry and feel grateful--that even though he (or she) was not ready for children, didn't "want" this particular child, or just didn't feel "into" parenting right now--you CAN find faith in yourself--that YOU did the right thing or are doing the right thing. and, in the end, "adversity will make you bitter or better" (p. 21). i have to believe that adversity will make both me and my son better people. this book has really helped me see that i always had everything right in front of me anyway--and now i have jack, too--and even better--he has me.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE this!
Bob, your review makes me frustrated because it's obvious to me that even though you might have walked away with "tidbits" you missed the MAJOR underlying message that is so essential that Dr. Leman is trying to get us to understand. The message is that the OPPOSITE parent has such a role in shaping their children that a bond can be created that the little girl WILL feel comfortable asking him about a bra--that's the WHOLE point. You seem to forget that the single parent is the ONLY parent that child has, so of course, by using the principles in this book that child will feel comfortable in asking absolutely everything. As a sidebar, as a university professor who uses Dr. Leman's materials in three of the classes that I teach for my graduate students. I use his materials because they are well documented and his bibliography is extensive.

2-0 out of 5 stars Pick out the good and throw away the rest.
This book had several good tidbits of information to help any single parent.I'm happy to have read it, however there are many opinions of Kevin Leman's that are not backed by facts.I would advise anyone who reads this book to pay attention to the practical advice, but ignore the opinions - some of which lead me to question the sanity of the writer - such as "boys should live with moms and girls are better off with dads."I don't think he'd be saying that if he had a little girl ask him to go bra shopping or bring up the topic of menstruation. ... Product Description
Imagine wearing a piece of sandpaper down the back of your shirt . . . or trying to eat your lunch next to a hot garbage can . . . or trying to walk across a room during an earthquake. If you can, then you may have an inkling of what it's like on a day-to-day basis for a child living with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). SPD is the inability of the brain to correctly process information received through the senses, and it is believed that as many as 1 in 20 children struggle with some form of sensory sensitivity. Author Chynna Laird knows first-hand about the challenges of raising a child with SPD. Her daughter was diagnosed at age two, finally explaining her severe reactions and behaviors in wind, around loud noises, or with exposure to bright light. The diagnosis spurred Laird to consult numerous experts and join advocacy and support groups to learn everything she could about how to help her daughter overcome her sensory problems.
In this book, Laird explains everything the parent of a newly diagnosed child needs to know about a comprehensive treatment approach called a sensory diet . A sensory diet is a unified way to help a child learn how to organize his or her nervous system so they can function in the real world. This effort is led by an occupational therapist, other professionals such as nutritionists and physical therapists, and the child's parents, to create a group of sensory activities suited to the child's needs, interests, and abilities. Laird also shares valuable information about advocating for your child in school, how to get siblings and other family members to interact with the SPD child in a supportive way, and covers nutrition and helpful resources. She includes information from top experts and also offers other valuable advice for parents. ... Read more

Her dispositionChapter III. Lady Jane Grey. AMONG Elizabeth's companions and play, mates in her early years was a young lady, her cousin, as she was often called, though she was really the daughter of her cousin, named Jane Grey, commonly called in history Lady Jane Grey. Her mother was the Marchioness of Dorset, and was the daughter of one of King Henry the Eighth's sisters. King Henry had named her as the next in the order of succession after his own children, that is, after Edward his son, and Mary and Elizabeth his two daughters; and, consequently, though she was very young, yet, as she might one day be Queen of England, she was a personage of considerable importance. She was, accordingly, kept near the court, and ibared, in some respects, the education and the studies of the two princesses.Lady Jane, was about four years youngei than the Princess Elizabeth, and the sweetness of her disposition, united with an extraordinary IntelJftctnal superiority, which showed itself alLady Jane'i parenta. Her father and mother, the Marquis and Marchioness of Dorset, lived at an estate they possessed, called Broadgate, in Leicestershire, which is in the central part of England, although they took their title from the county of Dorset, which is on the southwestern coast. They were very proud of their daughter, and attached infinite importance to her descent from Henry VTL, and to the possibility that she might one day succeed to the English throne. They were very strict and severe in their manners, and paid great attention to etiquette and punctilio, as persons who are ambitious of rising in the world are very apt to do.
