Product Description
The main purpose of this work is to identify the most valuable literature sources concerned with rural energy in the Third World. The annotated bibliography provides critical reviews of more than 150 sources and lists 50 others. Two introductory chapters identify a number of important themes related to the understanding of the energy needs of rural people and the organization of the process of technical change needed to generate energy conversion technologies suitable for rural application. Editorial Review

Product Description
Perhaps the most influential figure in 20th century British, imperial, and world history, Winston S. Churchill has been the subject of numerous studies, biographies, and controversies, but not of a recent comprehensive bibliography. The most extensive and up-to-date bibliographic work on Churchill, this book provides a full historiographical survey and over 3,000 annotated entries on all of the important writings by and about Churchill. Reflecting Churchill's versatility, dynamism, and influence, the book emphasizes his background and context, covering, for instance, works on fifteen major controversies associated with Churchill, some thirty biographies ranging from those that glorify to solid, scholarly studies, to extreme revisionist attacks. The final historiographical chapter points to subjects that would benefit from further research. The book will provide a valuable resource for students, scholars, and other researchers interested in Churchill and his era. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars not great but not bad either
i bought this seven years ago . but a reviewer opened my eyes my some of the mistakes in the book . mostly weak on books by winston churchill . couple of errors to .furthermore the bookwas pretty expensive . but it covers a lot of material. and i spendedmany hours reading it .

1-0 out of 5 stars A piece of over-priced, 2nd rate scholarship
The compiler of this bibliography has done a poor job. He seems to know surprisingly little about Churchill's own writings, which are described incompletely and inadequately, and are hardly integrated into the book's various subject headings. Nor does he have a solid grasp on the literature about Churchill. He does include most book-length works, but seems completely lost when it comes to the wide range of articles published over the years. Most alarmingly, the book is full of inaccuracies. The author has apparently even fabricated publishing details for one book (the Cohen bibliography) that wasn't published until 5 or 6 years after his own book (so much for the his scholarly credibility!). The work is also full of careless errors and sloppy editing. It's still the best book of its kind, but only because nobody else has made the attempt! If you really think you might find it useful, seek out a library copy! ... Read more

Product Description

This bibliographical compendium represents the final stage of a long publishing effort initiated in France. La Vie de la France sous l'occupation (1940-1944) was published in 1957 in three volumes by the prominent Parisian publishing house Plon.In 1958. Stanford University Press distributed the English version for the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution and Peace. This book consisted of three large volumes containing 292 statements on the government of Maréchal Petain and Pierre Laval.Since 1958, Pierre Laval's daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. de Chambrun, have continued their collecting efforts and regularly dispatched documents to the Hoover Archives. The new documents and the archival inventory have never been published. For that reason, the Hoover Institution has published this shorter, single volume, consisting of summaries and important selections from statements deposited at the Hoover Archives after the publication of the three early bibliographical volumes. The 148 statements have been summarized and occasionally selections from the statements have been made to indicate their importance.

Product Description
Between 1919 and 1953, the Division of Farm Population and Rural Life in the USDA's Bureau of Agricultural Economics promoted sociological research on rural society and its relationships with the larger US society. In retrospect, these studies offer a historical record of rural America in a period of great change. This volume includes more than 1500 citations to the research publications and related work of the Division of Farm Population and Rural Life. Substantive areas are indicated by key words adapted from the subject index used in the Rural Sociology 50-year Index for 1936-85. Key word entries are also made for ethnic-cultural group and geographic location of study. ... Read more

Selectively drawing on the vast literature on Gandhi since the 1920s, this bibliography covers his life, political campaigns, philosophy of nonviolence, and strategy of nonviolence. It also includes assessments of his historical significance and works on the Gandhian movement since 1948. The book sets Gandhi in his historical and political context, including material on his colleagues and contemporaries, the Indian National Congress, and how governments in South Africa, India, and Britain responded to his campaigns. Directed to English-speaking students, the work concentrates on English-language materials. 1-0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy
I bought this book with great hopes... CIA behind such a grand reference publication of all times etc. But what a disappointment. No index. No links to any chapter / country. One just keeps scrolling page after page of dull text for finding any reference. World's great minds at work, truly! Better make use of your Kindle's web browsing and refer to the CIA website. 99 cents gone down the drain ;)

P.S. No maps. Keeps getting better.

2-0 out of 5 stars Avoid (especially when reading on iPhone/iPod)
(Disclaimer: this review is based on reading this book on iPod Touch using Kindle App, not on Kindle reader.)

The problem with this eBook is that the table of countries is not linked to locations within the eBook. (Actually, there seem to be no links in the book at all). What that means is that you can't jump right to the country that you want to read about. Instead, you have to painfully either fast-scroll pages or keep jumping to numbered book locations. After fast scrolling or jumping, you need to scroll around to see what country you landed in... and repeat until you find what you were looking for.

Also, this book is text-only. ... Read more

Product Description
This bibliography provides easy access to information relating to Scottish affairs in Parliamentary papers. The material covered includes the reports of Royal Commissions and Select Comm ees, Annual Reports and Statistical Returns drawn from both Command papers and Sessional papers. The value of the work lies in the detailed annotations provided for material concerning aspects of Scottish life which are'buried' in reports relating to the UK as a whole. Such material is frequently detailed and unique, yet cannot be traced via any index currently available. The subject areas covered by the bibliography include agricluture, crime and punishment, ecclesiastical matters, education and culture, finance, fisheries, health and living conditions, industry, labour, local government, mines, ownership and valuation of land, poverty and relief measures, and transport. ...
