It was the same as seen in the picture. It was way cheaper than what my college sells it for. I would recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have Aid
A great photographic book that walks through many types of microorganisms commonly encountered both in the laboratory setting and in real life sampling. Aids in quick identification of specimens with accurate descriptions of even smells.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful
I considered not purchasing this to accompany my Microbiology laboratory class. I'm glad I chose to buy it. It has very helpful pictures (that I could not find online) and is thorough in its explanations. No regrets!

The book is very helpful especially in looking at slides of bacteria that you've no idea of what it looks like.

3-0 out of 5 stars Foundations in Microbiology Basic Principles 7th Ed. International Student Edition
My rating of the item is specifically for the item. The seller was great. The International edition is a good book for my class but being that I thought it was the same as the original hardbound book, I was disappointed. The International Student Edition is missing 10 full chapters from the original, giving it only 17 Chapters rather than the full 27.Still a good book.

this book arrived quickly.I was very happy to see that it was virtually a brand new book.It ws clean and crisp, just the way that I like them!I will definately make more purchases.

3-0 out of 5 stars Poor Packaging
The book arrived in about 3 weeks, within the time frame they said. However they could have used more care in the packaging. When I received the book, two corners and the spine that was on the same end were bent, and did not quite resemble a new book. There wasn't any packing material inside the box, how did they think the book could survive the journey all the way from London, eventhough I was told that it'd be shipped out from the United States. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Micro courses, not so much for USMLE
Great book. I am only giving it four stars because it's not in board-style question format. For that, just get the Pre-Test Microbiology book and you're covered in all directions. This book is more helpful for testing your knowledge of the characteristics of the microbes, for example when being tested in a Microbiology course. Can't see myself using this for the USMLE (although there are some helpful mnemonics and memory devices/tips highlighted throughout with a USMLE icon) but so far has been helpful in my Micro course (medical school). If I can just remember to use it!

1-0 out of 5 stars Never arrived!
A month after the book was due to arrive, I still have not received it.I have contacted the seller twice without any response.I do not recommend buying from this seller.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE BUYING FROM AMAZON AND ITS VENDORS
i BUY VERY OFTEN FROM aMAZON VENDORS.I TRUST THEM TO DELIVER, AND THEY DID IT AGAIN!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, concise book
I hate memorizing details. This book is perfect for students like myself who don't enjoy endlessly memorizing random details. It has a great question prompt (with the answer across the way on the page) format to facilitate learning and memorization.Very high yield.

5-0 out of 5 stars Microbiology Recall
I am horrible at reviews, so bear with me. This is a great book.I used it in school and I now use it at work in my microbiology lab.I work in clinical microbiology and I have access to many micro books in my lab. This book in particular is used so often by my co-workers and myself that it never gets dusty. The organisms are easy to find with the contents and the index. The descriptions for each are excellent containing a colony morphology as well as gram stain description, patient symptoms and possible infections that the microbe could cause. It is easy to read and contains some color photographs of the organism itself, or of the patient symptoms for those who may not be familiar to them. There are some main biochemicals included in the organism description which help with identification. It is basically a review of things, not complete, but it has all of the main things to help jump start your brain and start diagnosis or to just help a student to remember certain facts or characteristics about microbes.I highly recommend this book to students studying microbiology as well as those involved in clinical microbiology. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best science textbook I have ever read
This book has now become my gold standard for science textbooks. It is a pleasure to read and the online resource for the book is a great complement and very intuitive.Prior to Micro, I hadn't had a college science class since 1983 and even then, it was only one class.I was a bit apprehensive about this course but the book couldn't be better.I aced the class and loved the subject. Both were a pleasant surprise for me, and I credit this excellent text.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bought it for class
I bought this for a micro class, and it was helpful.Easy to use with lots of pictures.I'm surely not a great judge of micro books, but this one was helpful for me.

2-0 out of 5 stars Microbiology
Good book. Information was easy to follow. But the condition I received it in was terrible. It was advertised as "good" but had writing and marks all over it from head to toe.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lousy book
This book is very poorly written. This book doesn't define terms, doesn't bother to explain things, and just goes into incredible detail on things that leave the reader lost. I've heard it said that it's for a graduate audience. That's no excuse.

5-0 out of 5 stars really detailed book
I was assigned this book in college. It is definitely intense. However, it's intense in a positive way.I have always found microbiology to be one of the most interesting subjects of science.I have always been fascinated by parasites and bacteria. If you're assigned this book in micro class in college--definitely read this book.I also found Microbiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi to be an excellent study guide for test prep.

4-0 out of 5 stars Too much info
Extremely detailed, this book covers much more than MICROBIOLOGY. You can find a complete course of GENETICS within it as an example!
This is a usefull book for undergrad's but there is no chance of being able to finish all of it in an undergraduate course in MICRO.
It just covers everything and tries to squees all the info within its pages...
I hope you will have fun studying it though... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BRS books
Purchased it.It's a good book although everyone makes their judgment on how much it helps them. Some people will like the BRS and some won't.But it's not a sham by any means.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly organized
Micro Made Simple is a much better book. This can't be used for much more than a quick reference because everything is spread out way too much.Too hard to study for a class or Step 1.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not on par with the BRS series
I was very disappointed with this BRS.I have collected most BRS's for MS-1s and have been impressed with the thorough but concise manner in which information is conveyed.
In contrast, micro is outdated, redundant, disorganized and generally not useful.
The one high point of this book is that the immuno section is good.It helped me greatly with our half semester immuno course.Otherwise I would have given it only 1 star.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend a better resource.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good review, great questions
This book has covers all the necessary topics, including immunology. But the best part is that it has a total of 416 questions!!This is a great source of practice questions for the USMLE.Still, it could use more pictures and diagrams.Just for the questions its worth the money.

2-0 out of 5 stars truly useless book

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have for Med School and USMLE
This book is the best micro book out there. It presents the key factors of the major infectious diseases and is a must have for medical school.I'm so happy I randomly stumbled on it.There is a little section on each case they call rationale, which is golden and it start with a wide range of potential bugs and eliminate the middle men with detail explanations.I love this book..

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Micro book
great book.this book is great for class or board prep.well thought out and well organized this is the micro book you must buy.don't waste your time reading other ones for when it comes to step 1 this book has the most bang for your buck.In addition to the wonderful textbook examples of classic presentations of the various bugs, there is great supplemental material to be found in the books appendixes of general concepts and even pharmacology.you can't go wrong in prepping for class tests or the boards.seriously, give it a try, read it, learn it, and it will help you immensely. I am constantly finding this book more useful and informative than the micro book my school requires.Do your brain a favor and read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth every cent
As a student preparing for Step 1 of the medical boards this is a must read, no-brainer, hands down. The systems based approach style prepares you for the complexity that the USMLE and the COMLEX will test. The authors have done a wonderful job providing interdisciplinary insight to make the hard diagnosis. The piece is well written and illustrated to provide the most 'high yield' information needed to CRUSH the boards. After reading this book, I felt very comfortable with microbiology (I had ZERO microbiology background and still walked away refreshed). From soup to nuts this is the best money invested for the BUGS of medicine!

5-0 out of 5 stars This was my Micro Professor
Dr. Nath has finally decided to publish the Microbiology Step 1 review that he gave his students for years. His review, in addition to First Aid were the ONLY sources I used to review Micro for Step 1 and I aced that portion of the exam.

If you want to destroy Step 1, this should be your Micro source.

5-0 out of 5 stars Looks like the best Micro text out there!
I wish I had more than three days until Step 1 so I could read this great book cover to cover. The layout is great including the appendices that cover general Micro tests and concepts. While it doesn't have the goofy mnemonics of ...Ridiculously Simple, it is MUCH more Boards focused.

The photos of cultures, tests and infections; introductory clinical cases; differential diagnoses; and thorough descriptions of the pathophysiology are second to none. I borrowed a preview copy from my Micro Prof and don't want to give it up! :-) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good
The book is brand new. But my only concern is that the seller doesn't but the tracking number.

4-0 out of 5 stars As a general reference book it is ok.
The book is a very good general reference. It does not cover topics very deep but it gives you a good start of all the things to keep in mind. It is a good book to follow a class.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Quality
My book appeared in a reasonable amount of time, but the quality is way lower than they said the book was in.Highlighted, written in, and the binding is falling apart. Very disappointing. Wouldn't have bought the book if I knew this was the state it was in.

5-0 out of 5 stars very easy to read, lots of examples, bright pictures and diagrams
i like this book a lot. it has bright pictures and diagrams, gives lots of good examples to make things easier to understand, and is not too wordy. this is a book i will actually read.

5-0 out of 5 stars top notch medical micro book
I've written reviews for several textbooks, and it is not uncommon for me to rant extensively about high prices and the use of color solely for the purpose of making a book appear flashy. In the case of Mims Medical Microbiology though, I have nothing but good things to say. This is an example of a book that uses quite a bit of color, but does so with good purpose. Moreover the color is not overdone, and it is generally used effectively to draw the reader's attention to important concepts or to make illustrations more clear, or realistic. While the price of the book is not trivial, this is still an excellent bargain when one considers the quality of the content. The text is is clearly written and well organized for learning.I highly recommend it for those looking for excellent introductory materials on medical microbiology.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wise Choice for Learning Infectious Diseases
This text book is outstanding in terms of clear pictures and detailed descriptions. It exhibits numerous color photos which help remember the clinical signs and appearances of common infectious diseases. On the other hand, the text excellently outlines and explains the underlying theory and treatments. This book takes a modern approach to teach Microbiology by introducing the contents in a system based mannar. This is very different from the traditional way of teaching the subject in which the materials are delivered species by species. I think this way is more clinically relevant and thus, suits the needs of health care students.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Necessary Resource for any Microbiologist
Medical Microbiology would be an excellent reference book for any microbiologist. It contains general information about any bacterium you can imagine as well as overviews of the diseases various bacteria cause.Symptoms, complications, diagnosis, and treatment options are covered indetail. The book also contains wonderfully vivid pictorial accounts of thebacteria and their various modes of pathogenicity.A fascinating,well-organized text of sophisticated microbiology!

5-0 out of 5 stars surprisingly easy to understand microbiology with you!!!
At least a very "biologically correct" textbook of microbial diseases, I'm going to translate it only for fun, for me and for my italian entourage; and so many beautiful pictures that I never seen before in a similar text in Italy.I'd like to translate it for publication if possible. 5-0 out of 5 stars Impressed
I bought this as a supplement to my Microbiology class and the textbook that was required for the class. This book definitely clarifies things and conveniently organizes the material well. I read this and reference this more than my GIANT textbook! I am very satisfied with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous book!
Put it this way. I finished med-school, Internal Medicine residency and have been a hospitalist for three years. I'm going back to training in Infectious Diseases for a fellowship. I have been through bunch of books in my life and can say that this one is a darn good review of Microbiology. The proper topics have in depth review, but it is not too meticulous that you would get lost in bench research type topics. I'm certainly speaking from a clinicians perspective with ID intentions, but in general I have quite an interest in microbiology. I generally recommend it for sure. Great book!

5-0 out of 5 stars very good
This purchase is very smoothly and the quality of the book is pretty good! Thanks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Microbiology and Immunology Book
I bought this book for my microbiology course and for review for the boards. Before this book, I read Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple. While Ridiculous was an entertaining read, but the silliness kinda got in the way of information and the explanations were generally lacking. This book is well organized and the depth is great.I finally figured out what the A and B subunits on the cholera exotoxin are and the fact that that mechanism is not exclusive to cholera. The immunology chapters in the book are equally as good.Ever have any questions about complement or hypersensitivities?Well there is a chapter dedicated to each (albeit, only 3-5 pages). Finally the appendix is very high yield. There are charts that organize organisms by geographic region, foods for food poisoning, animals, and vectors. There is also a section that has a quick review of all the organisms covered in the book. There's a lot of information, so it might take longer to get through than a rapid review book, but started earlier it should be high yield.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for what it is
This is a very good medical micro book for someone who needs a reasonable complete and accessible reference. It's not a definitive micro book. It's not "Clinical Microbiology made ridiculously simple" either.I find micro really painful as a general rule.I'd never sit down and read this book from cover to cover. That said when I need to know about a particular bug this book generally tells me everything I'd want to know in an organized and understandable fashion. ...
