5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for A and P students
I found this book to be well-written and to the point for every topic in anatomy and physiology. It was totally complete, showing the structure and function of every system in the body.I studied this book and the following for my college anatomy and physiology classes: Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations by Patrick Leonardi
Vol 1(ISBN: 0971999619) and Vol 2 (ISBN:0971999627)
This books really helped out for test preparation. They showed the various questions that were similar to my actual exam questions.I highly recommend these 3 books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for self-study
The book is organized by organ system, and each chapter is full of well explained illustration. To use the book, not much knowledge of chemistry is needed (just a bit of acid/base chem, freshman year) and elementary cell biology. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants an elementary, easy to follow introduction to anatomy and physiology for self-study. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A&P
Unfortunately the class that I bought this text for is only for the Physiology side and I don't use the Anatomy content at all.As for the Physiology content I think that they do a very good job of explaining complex concepts in a simple student-friendly way.

4-0 out of 5 stars it was required for me so i bought it
goood book, well organized, but guys its A&P. freaking hard

5-0 out of 5 stars great product!
i recieved this book in brand new conditions just as promised! i am completly satisfied with the book!! i also recieved it in a timely matter.

3-0 out of 5 stars Professor thought all wrong!
Although my professor thought most of the information in the textbook was wrong, it was a great guide to use both online and in class.Great illustrations!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Recommended
I bought this book for my Anatomy and Physiology 1 class in college. It was the required book for the class and the first semester we were using it. Upon going through we found numerous problems with information in the book. For example, there is an illustration of a reflex on page 419 and the foot is on backwards (according to the direction of the spinal cord). This is only one of many, many small problems with the book.

I do however give it two stars because the website accompanying the book gives a lot of explanations for each chapter with videos to better see what the chapter talks about.

If you're getting this book for independent study I recommend something else because this book has a lot of information that is wrong and you won't know to correct it. If you have a teacher who can point out the little qualms with this book, go for it but buy at your own risk. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome & Informative
This text is very informative. The layout is wonderful, spacing the text out with pictures so you dont get bored readinf. I like the diagrams and the applications manual. The AM has examples of what you are reading and clinical settings for diagnosing.

1-0 out of 5 stars DON'T DO IT TO YOURSELF IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO...
This is the most horribly written book with wordy descriptions and it would take about 10 pages to make one simple point.I suffered through the 6th edition for Anatomy 1 and 2.At the end of Anatomy 2, I brought that demon outside, poured perfume over it, and had a bonfire.I watched it burn and was happy to see it go.Any updated edition would only be more suffering. If the drop screen allowed me to give negative 10, I would have done so, gladly. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars not for professionals
This is a good tool for a second year of high school biology. However, I'm an acupuncturist and I had higher expectations than the limited number of anatomical views and layers this series presents. The physiology sections are also about high school level.

2-0 out of 5 stars Review of Human Physiology CD
This product is very good for the learning of the anatomy of a human. There are excellent quizzes to test your knowledge. The cadavers which are used are prepared excellently for viewing. The one issue with this product is that it took a long period of time to load when ever you wanted to change the view.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent study tool
This product has it all! Access to Cadaver dissection and all relevant information about all anatomical structures, as well as self tests, histology, and radiography. A must for all medical students!

4-0 out of 5 stars helpful review
we took this as a crash course, it was very helpful as we did not have cadavers. It is great to help you place where things are, especially in putting into context depth as it allows you to see layer by layer on yhe body and gives some great practice test.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essentials of A & P
From beginning to end, descriptive text and detailed illustration takes the reader on a magic carpet ride through the human body. Soaring over every anatomical location and pointing out all of their physiological functions, each page is overflowing with mesmerizing information. A student armed with the endless knowledge within these pages is sure to prosper in any course related to this subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good bargin Book on A & P
This is a great book for anyone that needs a small (less than 700 pages) book to look up basic concepts. I bought a used copy as a low cost way to start an A&P library. Medical students may not want to use this book unless they are in their very first year and know nothing about anatomy and physiology; but anyone in the allied health field will want to keep this one handy. Anyone who is willing to immerse himself in this book will definitely acquire a good working knowledge of A & P. I found numerous chapters that were great starting points to motivate deeper study. For instance, the Chapter on Muscles is very useful. It provide views of each major muscle, along with a diagram that lists what type of motion the muscle creates, and it's origin & insertion points. Many chapters have clinical examples as well as special sections that deal with aging and it's effects on the body's systems. If you are on a tight budget, get a used copy and you won't be disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Why I like this book.
My daughter who is taking a course in nursing likes this book.
I find this book neat and the illustrations done by Dr William
Ober clear and easy to the eyes. If you are not anybody who is
involved in the health or medical studies, and wish to know
more about the human body (anatomy and physiology), then I highly
recommend this concise "essentials" book. Take a look at page
132, Figure 6-6, you actually get to see the whole of human
skeletal system which appears as photograph, not a drawing. I
can use this page to show my children what the human skeleton
looks like and name the parts, which are clearly labelled. The
reason I have given 4 stars because I cannot say this book is
100% perfect. The authors will later improve it in their future
editions, still this is a good buy ...you won't regret.

1-0 out of 5 stars This Book is A Hard Book to find anything
This book is way to complicated. It is not very helpful to tryto find information in an easy simple manner.I would try to findanother book for anatomy and physiology!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best educational physiology book!
I am a medicalstudent from Sweden. When I was about to begin studying anathomy and physiology the trouble was to find a book that gave the most knowledge in an easy, understandable way. After searching through all the books I found this one, Essentials of anathomy and physiology, the best buy all over. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars great resource for its size
Most A&P textbooks are just too big to be useful for review. This Cliffs Quick Review is great in that they have packed a lot of important information into such a small and readable book. The figures and tables don't compare artistically to those found in the extremely expensive full color glossy pages of the latest textbooks, but they are competitive in terms of being useful and helpful for learning. This book is a very good resource for review. You may need to use other resources if, for example, you want to review more than the very basics of physiology, but for a general review this book does just fine.

5-0 out of 5 stars A&P made easy
I bought this book for my Anatomy & Physiology I and II classes. It was a huge help to me. Topics are made easy to understand, and it is very portable with is smaller size. It is very clear and concise and includes helpful charts and diagrams. So if you are needing a little extra help with these classes, I would recommend this book. It's cheap, not bulky, and makes difficult concepts easy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good review
The book covers important topics in anatomy and phys succintly. However, I kept getting distracted by all of the typos in the book! If you can get past that fact that it needs to be edited, it is helpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good study guide to take to the gym or errands
I found this book a good concise study guide that I could take to the gym or when I'm somewhere waiting and have a couple of extra minutes to study. It breaks down the A&P chapters to simple terms which can finally be the lightbulb you're looking for when dealing with complicated A&P topics.I got an "A" in my class, but more credit goes to the wonderful study guides [Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations by Patrick Leonardi Volume 1 & 2]. Leonardi's study guides, written by an actual professor, are chock full of questions and answers to each A&P chapter, including all of the difficult concepts. It was great because I could mess up taking his tests and know that I needed to study that area further, and not make my mistakes on the real test!!It is an invaluable guide, and while the Cliffs Quick Review is a good primer, to get really in depth, get the Leonardi books!! You won't regret it!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good reference for college anatomy and physiology
It's a good book and helped to cut some of my study time studying for my exams in my college A and P class. It's definitely to the point and written in a reader friendly fashion. However, I was recommended another study guide from my pre-med friends at another college which is the following: Key Facts for Anatomy and Physiology ISBN: 0971999694
This study guide helped me to prepare for the specific key facts asked on my A & P exams. Well, this is a great beginner's textbook to Plant Physiology, especially when you have very little background in the field.(I major in Physics and took Plant Physiology as an elective.)The text is quite easy to understand, and there are great diagrams to complement the text. However, the text is getting a little bit out of date, as new plant hormones and genes are being discovered at a rapid pace right now.Overall, it was a pretty nice book for someone being introduced to the field.

5-0 out of 5 stars an excellent review on plant physiology for students
I teach plant physiology at the University of paris. I have bought the first edition of this boor five years ago and I have bought the new one about one month ago. It was a concise, clear and well up to date documentedreview. I appreciate particularly all the section on bioenergetic andtransport in solutes in relation with morphology and development of theplant. I appreciate also very much the part on the influence of the lighteither for the classical phytochrome or to the appartition of the effect onthe blue light. Scheme are simple, but precise and well descibed. This bookwas a very good intermediate between books of pure biochemistry or puremorphology. All information is integrated and well discussed. In the domainof the plant physiology I think really on my knowledge that this book wasactually, in the domain of the plant physiology, one of the best review, and perhaps the better.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is a useful tool for understanding plant physiology.
I teach plant physiology for biological sciences students in Bogotá, Colombia. I think this book is excelent. Also, it is written in a comprehensive English, and explainsclearly the principles of plantphysiology for everyboby including Spanish speakers. It is a very good wayto motivate undergraduate students with the knowledge in plant physiology.I would liKe to congratulate the authors.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Edition
The Second Edition of Plant Physiology builds on the strengths of the First Edition by integrating modern, state-of-the-art approaches to the study of plant function, particularly in the areas of gene regulation and molecular genetics, cell biology and signal transduction, and bioenergetics, into the framework of traditional plant physiology. The Second Edition also reflects the growing importance and prominence of biochemistry, cell biology and molecular biology in the field of plant physiology. Each chapter has been thoroughly revised to reflect new developments in the field. In addition, several new chapters have been added, including chapters on "Cell Walls," "Growth, Development and Differentiation," and "Blue Light Responses." A new chapter entitled "Gene Expression and Signal Transduction" provides a summary of current models for the control of gene expression and cell signaling pathways in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, parti! cularly those topics relevant to plants. As in the First Edition, expert contributing authors provide authoritative accounts that include important recent advances in their fields. These contributions are integrated into the unified style that made the First Edition a benchmark in the teaching of Plant Physiology. The Second Edition is extensively illustrated and will be published in two colors. ... Read more

Book Description
Animal Physiology presents all the branches of modern animal physiology with a strong emphasis on integration among physiological disciplines, ecology, and evolutionary biology. The book takes an entirely fresh approach to each topic. Its full-color illustrations include many novel, visually effective features to help students learn. Each of the 28 chapters starts with a brief animal example to engage student interest and demonstrate the value of the material that will be learned. The book includes five entire chapters that apply students' newfound physiological knowledge to curiosity-provoking and important topics, including diving by marine mammals, the mechanisms of navigation, and use/disuse effects in muscle. The book is committed to a comparative approach throughout. While mammalian physiology is consistently treated in depth, emphasis is also given to the other vertebrate groups, arthropods, molluscs, and-as appropriate-additional invertebrates. Concepts and integrative themes are emphasized while giving students the specifics they need. The whole animal is the principal focus of this book. The pages are filled with information on everything from knockout mice and enzyme chemistry to traditional organ physiology, phylogenetic analysis, and applications to human affairs. Always, the central organizing principle for the array of topics presented is to understand whole animals in the environments where they live. Concepts from chemistry, physics, and mathematics are explained so the book will be accessible to science students at the sophomore or higher level. Neurophysiological and other complex principles are developed clearly and carefully, to help students understand important concepts in sufficient depth without being overwhelmed. Pedagogical aids include embedded summaries throughout chapters, study questions, partially annotated reference lists, an extensive glossary, and appendices. For all three authors, teaching physiology to undergraduate students has been a lifelong priority. The opening three chapters provide background material on physiological basics, cell-molecular concepts, transport of solutes and water, ecology, and evolutionary biology. The remaining chapters are organized into five sections:

Food, Energy, and Temperature
Integrating Systems
Muscle and Movement
Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide, and Internal Transport
* Water, Salts, and Excretion ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Animal Physiology
From explaining how a mammal can stay underwater for lengthy periods, to how a camel can survive without water for days, this is a fascinating description of all types of animals and their unique ways of living. I never knew quite how fish breathe, nor how birds survive freezing temperatures. This is one book I can pick up, open to any page, and find the contents more intriguing than any mystery. It explains in depth the most recent current knowledge with examples of studies when researchers are still unclear about the answers. I am a nurse, not a physiologist, and find it easily comprehensible.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good buy for any biologist/zoologist
Dr. Hill is as wonderfully knowledgable and intelligent in his writing as he is in his teaching. Fortunate enough to have him as a professor and, incidentally, use his book (co-written with Wyse) as a resource, I strongly recommend it to anyone interested in animal physiology or to any biologist/zoologist. ... I love this book because it is extremely thourough. When I was in anatomy class I had to teach the course to myself because the professor never taught anatomy. So I studied from this book and I got an A in the course. It gets in depth about the macroscopic AND microscopic anatomy and describes the anatomy/physiology/functions/and detailed pictures. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Textbook!!!
This book was used in my Exercise Phys course last year, and I must say that it is very thorough and presented in an easy-to-understand format. The text has many illustrations and graphs to show you the dynamics of each concept. I had no Exercise Physiology background prior to this class, and this book made all the difference in being successful with the new material.I have, on numerous occasion, referred back to this text for information after completing the class. I highly recommend purchasing this book at least as a reference go-to for any Exercise Science enthusiast. ... Read more

A must have for any student nurse anesthetist during didactics.Good book to keep throughout your professional career.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best text for pathophysiology
I read Guyton's for med school and I only read this book when I was studyig for the Post grad entrance exam in India. This is the real deal: If you love internal medicine, you must have this book.Beg borrow or steal it.
Its the best Pathophysiology text ever written.
I would have given in 6 stars if they would have let me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ganong Review
This textbook is a very detailed writing with some explanation of basic physiology. It is a difficult read for a beginning text and needs to be backed up with supplemental information if you are learning from this text as a first line of education. I feel it is a very good review of physiology already understood with an in depth explanation into more detailed physiology.

3-0 out of 5 stars not needed for step 1
this book is too detailed for the step, a better books is brs physio.i read the whole section on neuro, it was very detailed but not once did i come across such info on my boards. Stick w/ brs physio unless u are trying to become a physiologist.I made a 229/95 on my boards reading brs physio, pocket robins, lipincott biochemistry, first aid, high yield anatomy mainly, then skimmed through high yield embryo and histo. Even though i read katzung for pharm it was a waste of time as first aid is more than adequaate.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ganong's Review of Medical Physiology
I have used Ganong's Review of Medical Physiology as my standard reference on human physiology since 1963. Its concise, clear prose and illustrations make it a joy to use. Yet it is so comprehensive that I always find what I'm looking for. The 22nd is the 4th or 5th edition I've purchased.- R.P., biologist ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Boron's Physiology
Great book. Very thorough. Includes the latest findings on molecular biology that affect physiology. A bit dense though. The online link to student consult is extremely useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book gives real understanding
This book is a gem. What is great about it is that since it teaches fundamental biophysical mechanisms, I could apply the principles to areas that it does not cover.Specially for the nerve membrane section, I felt that the writing was not only lucid but also sufficiently in-depth to apply the information to real life. While it may not lead to high USMLE scores directly, the book will definitely create a solid base on which to build upon later.More efforts to be comprehensive would lead to a tome like Gray's Anatomy.

4-0 out of 5 stars great reference
A fantastic reference for medical and grad students. Not the best for a full read, but great figures and supplements study with great detailed illustrations.

5-0 out of 5 stars My bible
A+ This book spectacularly integrates modern understanding of biochemical and genetic processes with clinically relevant explanations. Medicine cannot avoid the increasing focus towards the molecular and genetic bases of disease, so I disagree with some of the other reviews that there is too much of a molecular focus. If you plan to enter into medicine and be the best physician/researcher you can, get comfortable with this stuff early. That said, if you are not someone who thrives on filling their head up just for the sake of more deeply understanding processes, and instead have limited time and memory and simply need MCAT or USMLE-relevant information, perhaps you are better off getting another book. Because of its multiple contributors, each section manages to go into incredible detail that would not have been possible with a single author. The result is a 1200+ page beast that assumes relative comfort with biochem, genetics, thermodynamics, etc. If you read this book and understand it, you're on your way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!!!
This is a very complete, easy to understand book. The online access makes it even better. Great source of knowledge. A+++++++++. ... Read more

Book Description
Cecie Starr is the most successful author in non-majors biology because of her clear and engaging writing, trend-setting art, and unparalleled media. BIOLOGY TODAY AND TOMORROW, BASICS Edition (no physiology coverage) her most concise text, provides a precise, issues-oriented approach and "solves" some of the toughest course challenges: engaging students, linking concepts from chapter to chapter, easily monitoring students' progress and simplifying lecture prep.Show students how biology matters: opening each chapter with engaging essays on hot issues and related online voting, the text highlights the connections between biology and real-life. Online exercises promote critical thinking about issues students will face as consumers, parents and citizens.Link concepts from chapter to chapter: since students have a difficult time linking concepts, the authors created a new "linking" tool. A list at the start of each chapter reminds students of related topics that were explained earlier. Within chapters, a key icon identifies cross-references to relevant sections in earlier chapters. As students work through the text, they see how topics build upon one another.Monitor students' progress with ease: BiologyNow offers diagnostic quizzes with automatically graded results that flow directly into your instructor grade book (iLrn, WebCT or BlackBoard). And, to assess students' progress instantly with in-class quizzes and polls, you can use JoinIn on TurningPoint content and software.Enjoy easier lecture prep: The new PowerLecture tool integrates all electronic chapter assets - art, photos, animations, videos, links to InfoTrac articles, web links, bulleted text slides, and everything else you need into each chapter's lecture slides. This "buffet" of media resources?arranged by chapter section?is at your fingertips. ... Read more
