5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK
THIS BOOK HAS REALLY HELPED ME IN MY A&P CLASS.IT REALLY BREAKS IT DOWN FOR YOU. THIS BOOK IS A GREAT AID TO THE TEXT THAT THE SCHOOL SUPPLIES YOU WITH.

2-0 out of 5 stars misleading product info by publisher
The book is ok, to be honest it made things clear BUT it clearly stated from the publisher that there was a companion website that offered animations, quiz generators etc. etc.sound good?well, not so fast, the only thing on the website is an image bank of the illustrations ALREADY IN THE BOOK!Apparently the rest of it is only available for instructors.Of course, once you scratch off and reveal the code to enter the website it nullifies your ability to return the book. And those "pocket size" study cards are just more illustrations but the size is much larger than normal pockets (hint: they are pages to be torn from the book..full sized pages) most would assume pocket sized to mean about the size of a 3x5 card otherwise just lug the book around. In any case, like I said the book I would rate a 3-4 the resources promised -1

5-0 out of 5 stars Great review study tool for the HESI
I bought this book as a study tool for the A&P portion of the HESI exam.I am finding it to be simple to read and understand but also indepth enough that I feel it will help me remember some of the information I've forgotten since taking A&P in the summer of 2009.I highly recommend this book to anyone taking the HESI or anyone who just wants a good overview of the principles of A&P.

5-0 out of 5 stars physician
Absolutely marvelous.Every clinician must read this book to refresh what they learnt at medical school. I read 1975 edition during my 1st MBBS professional year.
This text book has earned, in my opinion, the best review text book ever credential.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ganong Physiology
The professors who taught at the medical school I attended provided us with handouts which we studied from, but when I felt I needed additional reading on a physiology topic, I used Ganong's Review of Medical Physiology as a reference.I found it to be readable, concise and well-organized.The most recent edition has improved illustrations and end-of-chapter questions which allow students to immediately test their understanding of the chapter material. There are clinical correlations within the text which many physiology texts lack and these serve to keep the reader's interest. This text continues to be an excellent reference for me into my clinical practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This new edition of Ganong's celebrated text hits all the right notes while retaining the features that have underscored the longevity of this key resource. The use of colour and up to date pedagogical tools really enhances learning. The book is ideal for anyone seeking a concise review of the most essential aspects of medical physiology that are so relevant to clinical care

3-0 out of 5 stars What a pity for missing William F Ganong...
I am a gastroenterolgist. Ganong's Review of Medical Physiology have been a bedside reference from medical school to the profession. In last seven years I missed two valuable teacher (I can say almost two of my relatives): Arthur C Guyton and William F Ganong. I learnt their dying from their books: they had appeared with multiwriter against before. I looked at the Guyton's from time to time but I had been fond of the Ganong's. Firstly the new edition of the Ganon's looked as if more thinner from the original, but it might because of expanded dimensions. But when I looked for Limbic System, it there wasn't and I surprised. When I noticed that behavioral and emotions physiology had been omited completely I shocked and deeply worried, especially for MEMORY OF Ganong. Secondly I can not understand why The Energy Production had been inserted at the very front. Thanks to William F Ganong for giving Physiology zest to us for a long time. Unfortunately I think it was spoiled by missing of him. I have bought it already and those are few changes took my attention. Yet I am thankfull to new writers of the Ganong's for their valuableconsiderations and labor. I wish success to them forever. But I decided to buy the 2005 edition of the original for memory and any afterwards.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Physiology Review
This text is very well written and researched with very helpful illustrations. This text also does a very good job of going into the amount of detail that you need, and explaining pinnacle concepts of physiology quite well. This text should be not be used as a stand alone physiology text, but it is great for reviewing the organ systems. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent physiology help for Respiratory Therapy students
I am a student in a respiratory therapy program. I bought this book to help me understand pulmonary physiology, and it has been a god-send! It's definitely heavy reading, and fact-dense, but it has been great for helping me understand alveolar ventilation and blood flow to the lung. It looks like it will be helpful in helping me learn about ventilation-perfusion relationships in future classes. I would recommend this to anyone in a respiratory therapy program!
Each chapter has a list of learning objectives, which is helpful when you are looking for information on a particular concept, and how it relates to other concepts.
I would NOT recommend this for students that are in a basic Anatomy and Physiology course. This book is far too in-depth for that, and would probably just be confusing.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dozens of typos in the Kindle version
Dozens in just the two chapters I have covered so far. Essentially any formula that is inline with the text of a paragraph has errors. Many times it is a minus sign replaced by an equal sign. Capitalization in formulas is also problematic, e.g., showing Pa for "alveolar pressure" instead of PA, which is standard convention. Someone using the text as a quick review might be able to get by, but for a first exposure to the material this would be crippling.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource!
I purchased this book as an adjunct to my required textbooks for anatomy and physiology class for CRNAs. It is concise and well organized. It will be great to take with me when I travel for clinical time in my program.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pulmonary physiology shipped quick!!!
Great book! In great shape and was shipped faster than I ever anticipated from Amazon!! Thank You!!

1-0 out of 5 stars what a POS
I could not recommend a worse book. You are better off with a BRS series or Lippincott's Pathophysiology.Unless of course you feel the need to be lost in unnecessarily dense material, then by all means this is the book for you.I am sure there are merits to this text, but as a medical student and not apulmonologist, I fear I am simply blind to them at this point.I hope for the student's at LSU sake that this guy is a better lecturer then writer. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
I wish I would have bought this book earlier in my medical school career. Not only would it have helped for all the physiology sequences (cardiac, renal, etc) but it would have been helpful for histology, neuro, and endocrinology. The pictures are great and the explanations are uncomplicated. If you are a visual learner then I highly recommend this book.I am an endocrinology TA and have found it as a wonderful resource.I have the color atlas of immunology and have ordered the pathophysiology and pharmacolgy books by thieme as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
The same as I mentioned about the Color Atlas of Pharmacology, it's the best way to review Physiological functions in just one scheme for each topic. Totally recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars #1 Guide to Physiology
A very complete guide to physiology which can be used by researchers, graduate students and MD students alike with incredible detail included that may be beyond what is needed even. That makes it a great reference.

Its unbelievable that its in pocket handbook format.

My top rated physiology books would be:

Color atlas (this guide)
Applied Surgical Physiology Vivas (+ Critical Care Edition) (Kanani)
Berne and Levy

In that order exactly.

Back to the book:

Invaluable and truly an amazing, complete and extremely detailed carry-around reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't live without it.
This and it's companion book on Pathophysiology are the best investments I have made since entering medical school. The illustrations are great (and the diagrams set a standard that neither Guyton or Boron and Boulep can match) , but it's Silbernagl's presentation that makes them so amazing. I'm constantly finding new layers of information that I missed even after 4 or 5 passes. Buy Boron for this year's theories and break throughs, but this is the book you will be returning to.

5-0 out of 5 stars state-of-the-art
What makes this book a state-of-the-art is not its content, but the manner in which it's presented. Each subject only occupies one page of text, & opposite is a page for illustrations. But it's not the illustrations that explains the text, but rather the text that explains the illustrations (a method created by Leonardo da Vinci). This not only helps in recalling of the subject, but also helps in sustaining an interest in it. An ingenious beautiful book.

5-0 out of 5 stars World Class Anatomy and Physiology textbook
This item is a must have for all Vet Techs from juniors to seniors, youngens to oldies. It has great easy to read and understand text. I have seriously fallen in love with this book and definatly agree that it will be hard to find second hand in the future. Pictures are awsome. Definatly recommend this one for all Vet Techs out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Help
Our Vet Tech class for Anantomy and Physiology is fast paced and demanding.I have found this text to be more then helpful in understanding and passing my tests.Amazon was great in getting to me on time and for less then half of what my college bookstore wanted.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Second Edition
I have both editions and come back to them all of the time. The Second has colored pictures and diagrams, so it's more interesting, for me, to look through and review.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent new edition
I have always been impressed with th first edition of this text, and when I got the 2nd, I was pleased to see that they have managed to make it even better.

The information is presented in a clear format that makes the topics easy to understand.Explanations are not overly technical, but you still come away with a good understanding of the topic. There's lots of pictures and diagrams, as well as interesting information boxes, so it's not a dull, boring read.It helps you to understand the topic and if you want to move on to a more detailed text, it will give you a very solid base so you will be able to get into the more technical or involved aspects without being completely lost.I *highly* recommend this text for anyone who wants to learn animal A&P but is intimidated by more technical texts.By the time you get through this text you will be ready to tackle more detailed ones without any problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars finally!
Finally a clear, well written Anatomy & Physiology textbook for Vet Techs! No more interpolating from the human anatomy books. This book is well written, with clear and easily understood illustrations. It may become difficult to find this book "used" in the next few years; it is a book I will keep long after the course is over, to refer to in other classes. The sidebar on nutrition was especially helpful in another class this year. ... Read more

Product Description
This text is designed to help students develop a solid, basic understanding of anatomy and physiology without an encyclopedic presentation of detail. Great care has been taken to select important concepts and to perfectly describe the anatomy of cells, organs, and organ systems. The plan that has been followed for eight editions of this text is to combine clear and accurate descriptions of anatomy with precise explanations of how structures function and examples of how they work together to maintain life. To emphasize the concepts of anatomy and physiology, the authors provide explanations of how the systems respond to aging, changes in physical activity, and disease, with a special focus on homeostasis and the regulatory mechanisms that maintain it. Timely and interesting examples demonstrate the application of knowledge in a clinical context. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars exercise phys. book
It was delivered in a timely manner and arrived in the same condition that the seller described. I was satisfied. As a PT studnet,I think it was a good purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Textbook on the subject:Also a good reference
This excellent book covers more than the basics of exercise physiology with hundreds of references to studies, charts and graphs.Everything, it seemed to me, was backed by empirical evidence. There is still much to be learned in this field, but I think anyone interested in the subject would do well to own this textbook. It is written on an introductory college level, in my opinion.I rated it 5 stars based on the presentation of the material and sound scientific basis for ideas presented.

    I love this book!!
It's a MUST to get a good basic understanding and really helps build a foundation if you really want to understand Physiology, and with some mention of clinicals it's a small into Path.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for anyone taking college anatomy and Physiology
My study group and I used this book for our college anatomy and physiology classes. We found that the text was quite easy to comprehend and the pictures of muscles was very clear and precise. We also used the following 3 books when we were preparing for our midterm and final exams.
Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations
    Volume 1 (ISBN; O971999619)
    Volume 2 (ISBN: 0971999627)
Key Facts for Anatomy and Physiology (ISBN: 0971999694)

Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: (Volume 1 and Volume 2) areoutstanding study guides. It showed us the kind of questions to prepare for when we took our exams. We saw many of the type of questions asked on our exams from studying these study guides. Also, Key Facts for Anatomy and Physiology focused on the key ideas asked on the exams.I guess this is why me and my study group all got over 90 averages in our classes. This was our exact study plan.First, read important stuff in Tortora's textbook to get a really good understanding of A and P.For the test, we prepared heavy by studying the last 3 books described and using Tortora's book as a reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you are studying Anatomy, this may be the book for you
This really is a very good book.He really explains things very well. The chapters are layed out in a logical order and there are quizes and questions along the way.The book is well written too.I would recommend this book to a student, but it wouldn't be my first recommendation. There are others like Marieb & Martini that I like because the style of writing isn't quite as dry as Tortora. It still is an excellent book though. One of the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful reference book
I used this book for my undergraduate A&P course, and now that I'm in medical school, I appreciate it even more!It puts complex concepts in such understandable, clear language, with very helpful diagrams and graphics. In many subjects, it has done a much better job explaining something than my medical school professor or textbooks have done.Several of my classmates are considering forming a Tortora fan club in honor of this invaluble resource.Definitely worth the money, and they type of book you will want to keep on your bookshelf forever.

    5-0 out of 5 stars "An Outstanding Human A & P Book"
This book is outstanding. It has the most informations you need to know about human A & P.The book also encloses interactive CDS for learning. The book and the CDs rock educationally.I never have doubts about the authors and the information because the book is super professional and educational.I LOVE THE BOOK AND THE INTERACTIVE CDs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great pictures!
I feel like an idiot for titling this review "Great pictures!" (what am I, in second grade?), but the fact is that the detailed, blown-up illustrations in this book make it a lot easier to grasp the minutia of what's going on in the human body, all the way down to a cellular level. I bought it for my anatomy & physiology class and decided to keep it as an additional resource for future A&P classes, of which there will be many.
