Most of the early studies of this complex problem were done in Britain, since it was England and Scotland that were facing the problems, For students of business and economics, there are several relevant classic authors who addressed these questions. Is there a proper limit to the number of people on earth? Should everyone have the right to reproduce? Should everyone have the right to reproduce as much as they want? Do childless people have a responsiblity to pay for education, healthcare and support for children? Or, the other side of that coin is, if an elderly person has no children, whose responsibility is it to care for them? Is it better to have more people with a poorer life style, or fewer people with a richer life style?
