4-0 out of 5 stars I used this book!!
This book is good if you are just learning to juggle. It had clear pictures and instructions, and you can build up from one ball to three. The pictures are good. This is a good book as it is clear and makes learning easy, but it is not a good choice for someone who can juggle already as it only has a few tricks, nothing really interesting. But I learnt to juggle with this book, so get it if you're wanting to learn! ... Read more

Book Description
The late 18th century, especially the 1790s, was a fateful period for Britain and all parts of the world where European influence was felt. The disintegration of French absolutism unleashed a global crisis and vital features of modernism in politics took center stage-democracy, nationalism, mass military mobilization on a scale later seen in world wars, and even colonial revolt. Chris Evans shows how in Britain, long fermenting, touched all sectors of society. This study, based on the latest historiography shows how all these issues were sharpened by the Revolution and how it resulted in the widespread if gradual modernization of the British state in the following century. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars News about the Author
I am sorry to report the author of this book passed away in August.

Thank you all for your support. Chris appreciated it.

5-0 out of 5 stars next book?
Has there been a delay in "Alien Veil"?Does anyone know what it's status is?Thanks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thanks and Announcing New Release: from the Author
I would like to take this opportunity to thank those of you that have bought and supported my book, Alien Conspiracy, making it one of Amazon.com's bestsellers in the UFO/alien subject area over the last nearly two years. I have truly enjoyed hearing from those of you that have e-mailed me with questions, and, Andrea Roberts (from the abduction case in the book) has expressed her thanks and appreciation also. Although the first printing of the "Limited Researcher's Edition" has sold out, an additional small lot of this book has been reprinted to support the airing of the ABC network special featuring Peter Jennings, Feb. 24, 2005. So, this book will unlikely be available in the coming weeks.

A coming hardcover edition (The Alien Veil) is planned for around June 2005. All remaining copies of Alien Conspiracy I will sign before shipping to Amazon.com. (PS: Sorry, I tried not to rate my own book, but the entry form would not accept a `no vote.')

5-0 out of 5 stars I Loved It!
I'm not normally a book reviewer, and since my opinion of this book closely aligns with the initial three reviewers, and long-time reviewer, Dennis Hawley, who also wrote the books foreward, I wasn't going to add my 2-cents. But, after reading this lastest review from Tharpa Doyle, I feel I have to speak up. It's becoming somewhat obvious anymore that some reviews you'll find on Amazon, are written purely with the intent to trash a product or person, and I hope this wasn't the case here. This book simply does not deserve a poor review like that!

"Alien Conspiracy" is a Limited Edition, Vols. 1 & 2, and nearly 300 pages. Since it clearly states on the title page, "Limited Researcher's Edition," one shouldn't expect it to be an over-night read. A researcher's edition is normally packed full of details and commentary not usually found in later editions and revisions. The author merges classic ufology, alien abduction, and the correlations of ancient writings, into one book (so it's like getting 3 books in 1), with references and cross references in the index (invaluable for researchers, and those keeping a score card).

I was amazed at the volume of detail, and hard work that had to go into it! I was not the least bit disappointed with the way the author ties it all together, nor with his style of commentary, and neither were my two friends, who read it before I did, and who highly recommended it to me.

I consider myself an avid reader and, like alot of people, I have read several books on UFO's and aliens over the years. I've read Vallee, Hynek, Hopkins, Jacobs, Hall, Karla Turner, Leah Hailey, Von Doniken, etc., etc., and IMO this book by Chris Evans truly deserves its rightful space with the best of them.

I literally found myself rivited from beginning to end, and even after reading all of the other books prior, I learned something new. I was always suspicious of the Maury Island Affair, and now I know why. I had heard of Frank Scully but didn't know where he fit in to it all, and now I do. I was always curious of the brief references to ancient writings, and strange characters mentioned in the Bible, and now I have a better understanding of who they may have been talking about.

I found the account of experiencer Andrea Roberts quite interesting too, as well as a little disturbing. How many other people like Andrea are out there? Those who may have even told their story to an abduction researcher, but it got "filed" because it didn't fit with the standard M.O. we've come to expect thanks to pop culture, and all of those near identical accounts retrieved through regressive hypnosis.

When people think of alien's now, they automatically think Grey or Reptilian. But, Andrea's story is not about either one. Is that why that one reviewer below called her case suspect? Doyle called her story a filler, so he/she must not have gotten it either. Like it or not, alien's, UFO's, and the paranormal, appear to go hand in hand, and if we're ever going to get close to an answer, all of it has to be considered as a whole, which the author does quite well in this book.

No, IMO this book positively does not deserve a bad review! I don't hesitate to recommend Alien Conspiracy, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next book by Chris Evans!

2-0 out of 5 stars I would have given him three stars...
if it wasn't for chapters 8 - 10.They had little to do with any actual conspiracy and were almost entirely based on the alleged personal experiences of, it seemed, one rather suspect individual. Those chapters probably should have been the subject of another book altogether.

Still it was an overall decent read despite the author's abuse of the phrase "double-entendre."He seems to be a capable researcher so I'll likely read his next one.

Interestingly, the book arrived apparently signed by the author. That's a first. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars High Quality Work
This is the firstbook I bought in my fantasy art collection. It's also where I first encountered the work of Jim Burns and Boris Vallejo.

"The Guide to Fantasy Art Techniques" is a somewhat misleading title. This is not a "how to" book, but a series of interviews with some of the most talented practitioners of fantasy art. The artists do mention the materials they use, but that's about all. The caption "Where did you get the idea?" is pretty simple to answer: from the writer of the manuscript, or the brief given by the art director.

There are interviews with eight artists: Jim Burns, Ian Miller, Patrick Woodroffe, Phillip Castle (the one who did the "Clockwork Orange" poster), Syd Mead, Chris Foss, Martin Bower and Boris Vallejo. The artists talk about their early days, their influences (favourite artists, comics) and so on. Some went to art school. Others didn't. Some found art school a tremendous learning experience. Others didn't.

My only criticism is that the book doesn't give the dimensions of the artwork. The only real idea you get of size is in the photo of Boris Vallejo sitting next to his easel, or Martin Bower standing with his model spacecraft. It's hard to pick out a favourite artist from this lot, but I think the one I connect to most is Chris Foss. He was very influential in SF art, even inspiring Jim Burns. I like that phrase Patrick Woodroffe uses, "to skirt the edges of kitsch". I'm not sure how his work would go down at art college. Woodroffe makes another telling comment, regarding the perception of "artists" as opposed to "illustrators": "For me most of the best artists are illustrators anyway. Some people describe painting as 'literary' as if it were an insult. I don't see why you have to be very abstract or self-effacing to produce something worthwhile". This is very true. Think of all those Renaissance paintings with religious subject matter, inspired by the biggest bestseller of all time. People still admire them centuries later as "art".

There's a theory I've been mulling over regarding the definitions of art and illustration. Illustration is something that everyone can understand. Art is something only the initiated can understand. Maybe that's an unfair generalisation, but there does seem to be an element of snobbery over what constitutes "real art". I guess it's all a matter of personal taste.

While the best part of the book is the artwork, along with the interviews, Martyn Dean writes a good afterword on the subject of imagination and inspiration. You finish reading it with an even stronger conviction about the merits of fantasy art. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Roy & Dale
Growing up watching the TV shows and later watching them on Christian TV, I am a great fan of theirs.I even visited their museum in California and just missed seeing Roy.I loved the book.I'm not a great reader but couldn't put it down. I even plan to read it again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Time capsule for a generation
I loved this little book. Not a Hollywood whitewash, but a real story of two people whose love of family and faith shined for a whole generation because of their earnest values and huge hearts.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best biographies about Roy Rogers & Dale Evans!
Chris Enss's, The Cowboy and the Senorita: A Biography of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans is one of the most heart-warming and well written biographies about the "King of the Cowboys" and the "Queen of the West." The personal stories of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans are very well crafted, and the author is able to capture the essence and soul of these two wonderful people. Ms. Enss is articulate, animated, and amazing when she read excerpts from her book at a Barnes & Noble store. Fans of her wonderful book should really meet the author in person. I truly hope an audio version of this book gets produced soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Packs in black and white photos and high drama
The Cowboy And The Senorita provides fans of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans with a new, authorized biography based on the contributions of the Rogers family, who share their inside story of the two. From Dale's determination to be a singer despite her position as a teen single mother to Roy's first wife's death and his struggles raising three children alone, Cowboy And The Senorita packs in black and white photos and high drama to re-create the special challenges and lives of the two.

5-0 out of 5 stars This story should be required reading !
There is a reason why Roy and Dale were and are national treasures, and The Cowboy And The Senorita reminded me why...their convictions, integrity and humility demanded that they were off screen what they were on screen, and their fans knew it and loved them for it. This was not only a nostalgic, entertaining, and inspiring story, I found it direct and readable and loaded with some wonderful rare photos. This is going to be the gift I give to everyone my age and older who needs a smile and a warm memory, and to everyone my age and younger who needs proven and tested human heroes to look up to and imitate.Happy Trails, y'all. ... Book Description
One of the most powerful people in the art world--and the only Canadian on that list--Ydessa Hendeles is renowned not only as one of the foremost supporters of contemporary art but also as a brilliant curator and collector. The collection she has assembled under the auspices of the Ydessa Hendeles Art Foundation is one of the most original, prescient, and highly regarded contemporary art collections in the world--if one of the lesser known. Large parts of it are being shown for the first time in Haus der Kunst in Munich, assembled and arranged by Hendeles; this book has been conceptualized by her in conjunction with the exhibition. In typical Hendeles fashion, Partners combines artworks, press photos, anonymous snapshots, and everyday articles. Maurizio Cattelan's HIm, a depiction of Hitler on his knees, plays a key role, as does a large installation of thousands of historical snapshots of teddy bears. ... Read more
