This is the book to read (and it most certainly is not 4 pages!?), or at least one chapter in it, if you really want a consise history of the "troubles" between Ireland and England.Gibbs makes it all quite understandable, without really leaning to one side or the other.But in view of all the wars and history since this book was written (1921), it must stand as a rather tragic plea for world peace and a better way of running human affairs.If we had only followed his advice!One opinion was utterly wrong - that if another grand scale war came, civilization would not survive it.World War II came, and the Korean War, and Viet Nam, and the Gulf War, and now Iraq, etc., etc.And England and Ireland have an uneasy peace, I think.And let's not forget the mess that occured in Bosnia, which was created by the peace treaty of World War I. ...
