From the supplier: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is best remembered for his contribution to German literature. This brought him to the attention of Charles Augustus who appointed him supervisor of mining in Weimar, Germany, in 1777. In fulfilling his duties, he became interested in mining, geology and mineralogy. His mineral collection, which was built through years of field work, is currently on display at the Goethe National Museum in Weimar.

Classic Autobiography, boring anyway
Goethe is a bit like broccoli--one should like him better than one actually does.Goethe goes to great lengths to credit everyone who helped him become the most important German author ever. It moves at a very slowpace.It also is somewhat self-deceptive and misleading, as it ends whenGoethe was in his late 20's.In order to get a more accurate view ofGoethe's life, Dichtung and Wahrheit is best read in conjunction with atraditional biography.Goethe's autobiography appears in 4 parts, and thisvolume consists of the first 3, which were written earlier, and it is morethorough than the 4th part that appears in volume 5 of this series.Anyoneseriously interested in studying autobiography as a genre should read it,even if it is slow going. ... Wolfgang's essay's and poetry in general
wolfgang is an interesting author. many of his poems and essays are about romance and love. if you like reading abstract poetry and getting into sweet and very interesting storites you will love Wolfgang!

interesting take on goethe
This piece is beautiful.Regardless of whether you're a fan of Romanticism, you will like this book, for it appeals to all perspectives and preferences.What is wonderful is that Goethe, (as Romantic as he was)was only defined during this period for his superficial criticism anddefnition of the self in the traditionally romantic isolated fashion.Heis however, as one reads him would come to know, highly an Enlightenedthinker and realizes the inadequacy of Romanticism.You'll love thisone.
