Just a Super Story!
Journalist Nicole has quit the paper she was working for and wants to start freelancing when her friend Terri reads her an ad from the newspaper about a man advertising for a wife. Nicole and her friends speculate on why somebody would do that. Maybe he's ugly as sin, maybe he needs to do be married to collect an inheritance. Nicole, her journalistic curiosity aroused, sets out to get the answer.

And what she finds is Ross Dufrais, who claims the ad was put in by accident, but agrees to see her anyway. He tells her his wife and daughter died twelve months ago, that he needs to get on with his life, that if he got married it would make his terminally ill aunt happy, plus he has a grandson who needs caring for.

Nicole, realizing that she's not going to get the whole story, makes to leave just as Ross offers her the job. A marriage in name only. Nicole is about to say no when Ross's aunt suddenly is taken ill and he has to accompany her to the hospital, leaving Nicole with the darling grandson and a pressing problem, to marry the man or not?

I have to admit that when I read the short synopsis on the back cover, I was prepared to hate this book, instead, as corny as the plot sounds, I simply adored it. Wonderful book for active kids

Each page has something exciting on it, like the train that is rushing round the track so quickly I always think the crane will not get the tree moved in time, but rescue vehicles are quick and manage to get the job done.

Because the book is called Emergency, every vehicle is in a hurry. I can't wait for the page to turn to see which one is next, but I almost know now as I've read it so many times.

We always have some fun with the last page when it becomes nighttime and all the rescue vehicles have to sleep. We take it in turns to spot things on the page and each time we try to pick something that is not easy to find, like the lady sitting in the hospital--I think it is really only her shadow though.

Armchair Interviews says: A wonderful book for children who like things that move fast--and do a special job.

Fun book!
We had this bok read to us at our library storytime by a firefighter and my 2 yr. old son had to check it out. So far I read it 3-5 times a day but I don't mind.

It is fun to read and the illustrations are bright and vivid. We will have to buy this one too! Perfect book for your toddler!

a "must-have" for any home library!
We checked this book out at the library a few weeks ago, and have been renewing it over and over since then. I just don't think we can part with it, because my two kids (2 1/2 & 15 months old) still ask for it every night. However, we're going to have to give it back to the city library, so I logged on this afternoon to buy a copy. We've never had a library book he loved like this one, and I love the perspective on rescue vehicles it gives. Instead of being afraid of the sirens and flashing lights, my two-year-old is learning the positive thought "Help is on the way!" The book is written in rhymes that are assembled well and fun to read, and my son is captivated by the words and the bright, vibrant pictures. It's really a fabulous book for not just little boys who love cars (although it is that, too), but for any small child to teach respect and trust for our various real-life rescue heroes.

Gorgeous illustrations.
It's a pity that there is no picture to accompany this listing as the illustrations (vivid, yet simple collage-type) are one of the best things about the book!It's also a bit bigger than most books, so the illustrations really stand out.My son (who just turned four) is obsessed with vehicles, especially vehicles that assist or rescue others, and this book really covers them all -- from the obvious ones (fire engine, ambulance, tow truck) to the less obvious ones (search-and-rescue helicopter, fire-fighting plane, flood raft, breakdown train, snowplow, traffic police motorcycle).Each double-page layout is devoted to one type of vehicle and situation.The last pages show all the vehicles in the places where they "sleep" for the night in a kind of overview of the town.This is perfect for reading at bedtime because of these last pages.(What's also nice about this illustration is that some of the vehicles are partially hidden or tucked away and so my son can "find" them each time.)The book is ... is hardcover and printed on heavy stock, so it's a keeper.

If you have a two year old who loves trucks like mine, this is the book for you.I do not tire of reading this book over and over.The pictures are bright and exciting.We love this book. ... Read more

Is she even trying anymore?
I used to enjoy Margaret Mayo's Presents titles. But this last is just awful. One misunderstanding after another, repetitive dialogue, repetitive thoughts, cringe-worthy prose, an insulting resolution, and with tepid sexual tension.

There are two problems in Hunter and Keisha's marriage the first time around: he works too much, and she's bored because she stays home as the trophy wife. Of course, she begins imagining him with another woman (which he denies) and leaves him.

Three years later, she's skinny because she's been pining (and because of a Big Secret), Hunter wants his revenge because she walked out on him, Keisha doesn't have any money -- and so she absolutely must!!! take his offer as a personal assistant. It isn't long before they are indulging in some boring revenge sex, before Hunter realizes that it isn't just revenge, and they decide to make a go of it again ... but just as a love affair. Only, all of their old problems crop up again, an icy sophisticated other woman is thrown into the mix, and Keisha still hasn't revealed the Big Secret (part II).

I can't believe these two will love happily ever after. I can't believe that Keisha won't walk out on him the next time she's bored at home and Hunter has to work late. Nothing was fixed, there were no compromises made, and there is just blame laid willy-nilly as regards the Big Secret.

These two characters aren't adults. They aren't even children, because children grow and learn. They're just annoying. Skip this one, and pick up an older title in Mayo's backlist. ... Read more

Great book for active little boys!!
This is a great book for active little boys (I guess girls too but we have a son).My son is 2 and has loved this book since we originally purchased it at age 1. We literally read it to him every single night before bed.The pictures are vivid and colorful and the story quite animated.It reads like a poem with so much flexibility in sound character while making the vehicle sounds.We utilize the story for educational purposes also.Not only will kids learn about various modes of transportations they will learn the medium in which they travel, how one differs from another, rationale for usage (getting to work vs. vacation) etc.You can really use the story to develop higher order thinking in your child.Its an excellent story.Highly recommended.

Excellent book for boys and girls
I first borrowed this book from the library and loved it so much that I had to buy a copy for my son's 3rd birthday. The art is amazing and the pictures are all very colorful. My son loves every form of transportation and it is all covered in this one book! He has memorized some of the pages and recites them with me as I read. I would recommend this book for any child, even as young as age 2 yrs. I also ended up buying two other picture books by the same artist and illustrator for my son's birthday.

Encourages Choo-Choo fever
Of course, every boy would not be complete without a healthy interest in trains, planes and every moving things. Our son loves this book and says "Choo Choo" nearly every night, asking us to read this book.

Great illustrations, awful text
I have to say my two year old loves this book and I hate it. Its got gorgeous illustrations, filled with the kind of details that toddlers enjoy. The text, however, is horrendous, some of it doesnt even sound grammatically correct ("Trunk packing, seat calling, belts fastening." and "Same route driving, same time arriving"). Good childrens books have effortless rythm, but this one is so contrived.

My 3 Year Old Loves It!
This book is positively poetic.Each page focuses on a different vehicle with bright, bold illustrations and rhythmic phrases with repeated patterns that kids will find contageous.My son began "reading" the book to me after a few days of repeated reading and applying the first line of each phrase to his everyday life! Wonderful stories for children 3-4 and up
We first checked this book out from the library and now we're finallybuying it after renewing it time after time. Our three year old loves thetale "Baba Yaga Bony Legs" and the wonderful illustrations of thewitch with her iron teeth.
