Product Description
This edition is written in English. However, there is a running Italian thesaurus at the bottom of each page for the more difficult English words highlighted in the text. There are many editions of Sir Francis Drake's Famous Voyage Round the World. This edition would be useful if you would like to enrich your Italian-English vocabulary, whether for self-improvement or for preparation in advanced of college examinations. Webster's edition of this classic is organized to expose the reader to a maximum number of difficult and potentially ambiguous English words. Rare or idiosyncratic words and expressions are given lower priority compared to "difficult, yet commonly used" English words. Rather than supply a single translation, many words are translated for a variety of meanings in Italian, allowing readers to better grasp the ambiguity of English without using the notes as a pure translation crutch. Having the reader decipher a word's meaning within context serves to improve vocabulary retention and understanding. Each page covers words not already highlighted on previous pages. This edition is helpful to Italian-speaking students enrolled in an English Language Program (ELP), an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) program, an English as a Second Language Program (ESL), or in a TOEFL® or TOEIC® preparation program. Students who are actively building their vocabularies in Italian or English may also find this useful for Advanced Placement® (AP®) tests. TOEFL®, TOEIC®, AP® and Advanced Placement® are trademarks of the Educational Testing Service which has neither reviewed nor endorsed this book. This book is one of a series of Webster's paperbacks that allows the reader to obtain more value from the experience of reading. 1-0 out of 5 stars Starts well but leads nowhere
Mike "Tiger" McDrew is the Vice Principal, Guidance Councillor, Civics Teacher and Football coach at Sawyerville High and all of the other teachers and students love him...especially the female ones... and he loves them too. The lives of McDrew and his fellow teachers and students, however, are turned upside down when female students start showing up dead.

"Pretty Maids All in a Row" has been out of print for a while now, and there is a good reason for this. It starts off well, with a corpse discovered in the first five or so pages. Pollini soon sets the scene for a satire of high school life, from the point of view of a teacher, and all looks very promising. Unfortunately, after about page 50, it soon becomes apparent that Pollini has nothing to say. The remaining 350 pages are basically an endless stream of sex scenes and passages of various characters (mainly Tiger) sitting around and thinking about stuff that isn't all that interesting. Even within these passages, there is no variety. Pollini keeps using virtually the same descriptions over and over again, as if he is just copying his own writing. Other than that, nothing else really happens. If you do happen to make it through to the end of this book, which is quite an achievement, the ending isn't worth it. The ending is ambiguous and had me wondering if my copy of this book were missing the final chapter. The only thing positive that I can say about this book is that, whatever you read after it is bound to look good by comparison.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty maids all in a row...
I stumbled upon this book as a teenager back in the 70's.Let's just say that I've never forgotten what the man did with his arm...I bought a used beat-up copy on Amazon and read the book (this time) from cover to cover. It's actually quite well written.Yes, it's pretty graphic, but entertaining none-the-less.Good luck in trying to find a cheap copy!Five stars for Mr. Pollini!

3-0 out of 5 stars Rock Hudson and Angie Dickinson ruined a good book
The movie was awful, but the book was hilarious....The coach works his way thru the cheerleaders one at a time, first nailing them, then killing them when they want him to leave his wife and marry them. The story is told thru the eyes of a student, and the phrase he uses to describe his discovery of a dead cheerleader in a bathroom stall, " there she was, that tight, white, cheerleader p____y" has stayed with me since I first read the book, nearly 40 years ago.Wish I could find a copy for less than $25.Must be a rare book now. ... Product Description

Dr. Lenny Faulkner, a single, African American doctor is living a charmed life in Atlanta; compared to the poor childhood she experienced growing up in Madoosa County, a small southeast section of Georgia that reeks of the local box manufacturing plant. Lenny is dedicated to the care and treatment of her female patients. Lenny has been successful in achieving all her goals except one: She yearns to marry her live-in love Ralph and start a family.

In fact, the alarm on Lenny's biological clock is ringing loud and clear---she's turning thirty-five, but Ralph, doesn't hear it. Instead of proposing, he abruptly ends their nine-year relationship, empties their joint bank account and runs off with another woman. Adding to Lenny's misery, she learns that her mother is dying of cancer, with only a few months to live.

Feeling utterly defeated, she discovers her fifth grade diary, which contains a list of rules she had created to live by. Reading them after so many years, Lenny realizes that she has somehow buried the intensity she demonstrated in her youth that helped her get out of Madoosa County.

The diary becomes the impetus Lenny needs to start taking complete charge of her life again. She discovers that Ralph leaving isn't such a loss and that her newfound strength has opened the door to new possibilities, including love.

5-0 out of 5 stars We all need rules...

Just finished "Rules for a Pretty Woman". It was recommended to me by a college friend, since we all attended the same university. Loved this book. Lenny was so real, all that she had to endure and overcome. There is nothing like family and friends and sometime we are so busy looking at the forest that we don't see the trees (Ernest).

5-0 out of 5 stars It's never to late to find PEACE!
I actually liked this book! It had it's slow moments but all in all it was a good read.

Dr. Lenita Mae Faulkner made a set of rules when she was in the fifth grade only to forget them. After learning the love of her life took her money and the dreams she had for them, had to return home for one of the most tragic events of her life. While home she comes across her journal that had the list of rules she made and decided that it was time she lived by the ones that still applied and make new ones for the woman that she has become. A few love affairs, letting go of the hurt that was caused by her love, and a new friend later, Lenita, is now getting everything she need and more out of her life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love overcomes all obstacles!
This book chronicles the main character, Lenny' s life as she made her way through what many would consider a "rough" up bringing to become a doctor. She clearly rose above a lot. As a adolescent she creates these clear, concise rules that she would live by, however she never really follows them. It is indicative of women sometimes to compromise their own values, beliefs and even themselves when the possibility of love and a man is at stake. They author really does a great job of showing the readers what that looks like through the main character, Lenny. Lenny triumphs over all of the obstacles. This is one that I could not put down.

5-0 out of 5 stars great book
i could relate to the main character in many ways. i hadn't been reading novels lately but this was a good one that was real with real people and real problems.i recommend it for any woman over 30 trying to figure out her way in the world of romance, career and motherhood.

5-0 out of 5 stars LISTEN MEN DONT SLEEP
I am someone who is a total idiot when it comes to women and
there problems. Reading Rules of a Pretty Woman gave me a understading of how strong women really are. A lot of men like me would stongly agree. Suzette Francis is very encouraging to a lot of young women like her in the genre. At lease my girl say so.When I in the beginning of Rule of a Pretty Women, I didn't think I would like it that much.I was very shocked as I got to in the middle of the story. The novel had over the top methaphor and several rule the main character used in her life. ...
