Product Description
This book focuses on artist-naturalist Ernest Thompson Seton, who has been compared with Kipling as a writer, with Audubon as a bird artist, with Baden Powell as a youth leader, and with Fabre as a naturalist. Very much a neglected figure, this study provides an introduction to the life and work of this "creative genius," a naturalist who, at the turn of the century, was largely responsible for initiating an ecological consciousness and ethic. ... Editorial Review

Product Description
Born into a cosmopolitan family, Grace Gallatin Seton nonetheless took easily to the rough life of an outdoorswoman when she married naturalist Ernest Thompson Seton. Nimrod's Wife, first published in 1907, is the second account of the hunting exploits of the couple (A Woman Tenderfoot is the first). The narrative, as one contemporary reviewer in Outlook put it, "preserved the atmosphere of close companionship with woods and waters that, even to the uninitiated, what is after all the chief charm of sport with gun and rod is made quite clear." This charm is as vibrant and relevant today as it was a hundred years ago. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Pioneer Woman Hunter, with Charm
This book, actually written by Grace Gallatin Seton (foreword by M. Z. Stange), is a charming account of Grace Seton's adventures in the U. S. West in the early years of the 20th century, camping, hunting, exploring with her husband, noted naturalist and author Ernest Thompson Seton. The book is interesting throughout, written with humor and sympathy for both men and animals. There are many illustrations that add much to a reader's enjoyment. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Story of a Life and a Time That Will Never Be Again
This is the life story of a man who lived a life that few would-be animal lovers could only dream of living. His minute observations of the various animals that he came to know very well during his life, ranged from birdsand rabbits, toa wolf-killing pet dog (really!) .This man lived withall these animals and developed insights into the very reasons they do whatthey do. His temperament and abilities ranged from being a fairly goodartist on one hand, to being at the opposite extreme, probably the greatesttrapper/hunter who ever lived. The reader of this book will (if they getnothing else out of this) learn or understand more about the wild animalsand domesticated animals of the world that we live with. And some that noone will ever live with again.Since this is an old book that retells alife lived almost a century ago, this book is about a way of life orsurvival that does not exist now. This book is real. Not a ficticiousidea of what things are or the way things happen. I read this bookoriginally 30 years ago, and still remember it vividly today. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BSA Centennial book
I hoped to get a few of these at a lower cost and managed to find this seller who was selling them for half price. Two very happy Boy Scouts will receive these for Christmas, as the BSA Centennial draws to a close, and they have one more memory from their staff experience at National Jamboree, the summer of 2010.

4-0 out of 5 stars scoutmom
A good coffee table book for a scouting family.Nice gift for your invaluable volunteer scout leaders.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great stuff!
The history of scouting is intriguing. It connects with much of what has happened in the 20th century. This book does a great job covering the great breadth of scouting's story.

Its chief failing is that the author writes in a tepid, uninspiring prose style. He's reciting history, and not doing much engaging storytelling. The book should've been written with verve and romance---it's an exciting story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Scouting Book
It was a Father's Day gift for my husband. He has been a Cub Scout/Boy Scout leader for over 25 years. He has participated in some 100 year activities so it seemed the perfect gift for the perfect father.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for any Scout lover!
My youngest son is just about to move from Cub Scout to Boy Scout. After purchasing one of these books for him, we found it so enjoyable that I purchased two more for his Webelo Leader & Cub Master as a gift.If your son(s) loves Scouting as does mine, you need to have this in his collection of memorabilia! ...
