5-0 out of 5 stars Merriam-Webster's Dictionary of Synonyms
This is the compainion to the Merriam-Webster's Thesaurus that I recently purchased. I believe this reference book is a must have in any private library that gives any writing needs you have that edge that stands you apart from all of the other writers in this world. Again, I thought for sure this was going to be a book that collected dust on the shelf but this is not the case at all !!!I use this book along with my new Dictionary and Thesaurus on a regular basis knowing these reference books give me the confidence to go forward and write anything I want. Knowing I can actually express my thoughts completely with words that can give a clear picture of my thoughts and feelings !!!Without sounding like an idiot who failed third grade spelling three years in a row. Only kidding mom. LOLI am very pleased to have this reference book in my library and I look forward to using this book over and over again in the future !!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensable
Indispensable for ESLs. Buy it and you will never regret. See the other reviews for why. In other thesauruses you can not choose a word without knowing the shades of meaning and usage discriminating one from the other. This can be easy for native speakers, it is but terribly difficult for an ESL. I know, because I am one. From the moment I opened its package, I have never used any other thesaurus.

5-0 out of 5 stars A necessary addition
A wonderful resource, if only for the pellucid 30 page introduction that schools the reader in the history of synonymy. Unlike thesauruses- which often corral words that may share inessential, non-fundamental aspects oftheir meaning, the MWDS is a discriminator among synonyms (strictly defined as words that have the same or very nearly the same essential meaning) that differ in their implication, connotation and/or application.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teacher & Engineering
Although I have given 5 stars, I would like to see the computer version. If you have not had any dictionary regarding synomyms, I would recommend you to have it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book for vocabulary
Throw away your thesaurus!Indeed, toss your worthless plain-penny dictionary, and obtain this work!Purchase it hardbacked and thumb-indexed (my forty year old copy is now falling to shambles). For years I have judged and esteemed _Webster's New Dictionary of Synonyms_ as the very best book on precise, pellucid, and exact usage of words. This book is its worthy successor.A thesaurus only lists words; this work discusses, compares, and contrasts words in exhaustive detail, with shades and nuances of meaning, with example sentences from published writers, with antonyms, and with analogous and contrasted words. No writer can do without it. As a teacher, I have recommended it to all my students. As a student myself, all those years ago, I perused nightly ten pages. It belongs with Fowler's as one of the great works in and on the English language. ... Read more

Amazon.com
Since 1970 South Africa ended apartheid; Jean-Bertrand Aristide was elected president of Haiti, deposed by military coup then reinstated; San Francisco suffered a major earthquake; and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics dissolved. So it's a good thing Merriam-Webster updated its geographical dictionary to include more than 48,000 alphabetically arranged entries of mountains, lakes, towns, and countries. The third edition had a lot of catching up to do, what with the social, political, financial, and physical upheavals that have taken place since the second edition was published, and the result is a modern and sophisticated reference.Book Description
A comprehensive source of geographical, economic, historical, and political information. Over 54,000 entries and 250 maps. Includes information on continents, countries, regions, cities, historical sites, and natural features. Provides pronunciations and variant spellings. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Far from complete........
In a description of the Merriam-Webster's Geographical Dictionary, it states that this volume lists "more than 48,000 alphabetically arranged entries of mountains, lakes, towns, and countries."I had to check whether mountains were indeed included, as my first searches of prominent places in the Andes were not successful using this volume.

This reference has received many accolades here so I was looking forward to getting the copy I ordered as part of my reference books. But after a cursory examination, I must say that my first impression is one of disappointment, rather than accolades.

I looked first for several places in South America where I have been in years past and am familiar with, as I am sure this is what most people do with this volume when they first receive it.When I looked up Alpamayo, a mountain in Peru, it was not in the book at all. This is not just any old mountain.Alpamayo was named the "most beautiful mountain the world" by a German Mountaineering Club in the 1920's or 1930's.In addition, Alpamayo was declared "the most beautiful mountain in the world" by UNESCO in 1966.And the mountain you see when a movie made by Paramount pictures comes on the big screen? You guessed it......that is Alpamayo. So imagine my surprise when it was not listed in the book.

Also, Huascaran, the second highest mountain in South America, was not listed at all.I had to do a double check to believe this.Huaraz, the city that is an embarkation point into the Andes of Peru was listed, but Huascaran was not.

Again, these were only preliminary and cursory checks, but these are not just any mountains or places on a map. They are significant points of interest which were entirely omitted from a book devoted to geographical points of interest. And if these are not in the book, what else has been ommitted?

5-0 out of 5 stars Like a Steady, Reliable Friend.
I have used this book as a reliable geographical reference for years and never found it wanting. Both historic and modern places and geographic features are included. I have found everything I needed, from Ash Flat to Pskov.

The appendix contains a thorough table of geographical terms in languages other than English, as well as a useful glossary.

5-0 out of 5 stars Merriam-Webster's Geographical Dictionary
The dictionary was delivered as promised and in excellent condition.I consider Amazon to be a great site and I will order from them again in the future.

4-0 out of 5 stars Comparison between 1988 and 2001 Editions
I had been using the 1988 edition without the need to update my library with the Second Edition until last year. Owing to geopolitical changes since 1988, a more recent edition of Webster's New Geographical Dictionary seemed necessary and the Third Edition was the current version available. The Third Edition contains more current background information (e.g. Union of Soviet Socialist Republics), expanded entries (e.g. Palghat), a subtle, easier-to-read font, sidebars, and cleaner maps (e.g. Palestine). That said, if you want more detailed maps or more concise country profiles, you might be better off checking other resource materials such as National Geographic (Magazine maps) and The CIA World Fact Book respectively. Where this boook retains its advantage is that it contains diacritical notation for the proper pronunciation of the place names.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply outstanding
This is an excellent reference book that covers a myriad of geographical locations. The maps are also excellent.I highly recommend this book.A previous reviewer claims that the editors made an egregious mistake by including Slovenia as part of the Balkan states.Maybe that person should do a little research because virtually every resource, including Microsoft Encarta, includes Slovenia in the Balkans. And yes, the Ottomans did conquer Slovenia. The Ottomans had to surrender Slovenia, Hungary, and Croatia to the Hapsburgs in 1699.The editors of this book got it right on the money. As for that reviewer -- a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Don't expect much
Wanda is trying but her books are not very good. Comparing them to Beverly Lewis is the problem because Beverly is SOOOO good. Wanda's books were dry, unemotional, rushed and shallow. Many of the plots don't make sense and a lot of what is done would never happen in an Amish community or home. She needs to get inside her characters a LOT more. I also found a lot of errors in grammar and typos in the text in all the books of hers i have read. I have never seen so many errors. This tells me they are rushing her to write and rushing everything to print to make a buck and trying to capitalize off of Beverly Lewis' excellent success writing about the Amish.
I read Wanda's books out of boredom and waiting for the next Bev Lewis to come out. It wasn't worth the $13.00 but if you can get them for free at the library and you have some time to kill AND you truly cannot find anything else to read (how about some Jane Austen?)... then go for it but don't expect much.

4-0 out of 5 stars Amish culture
I enjoy Wanda Brunstetter's books because they give me a little more insight into the Amish culture and mindset. If you've enjoyed her other books featuring Amish characters, then you won't be disappointed with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars "An Independent Woman Struggles to Remain Independent"
Barbara is a widow. She has 4 boys; one she just gave birth to--eight months after her husband died. For an Amish woman, she certainly is determined and independent. She tries to keep her husband's leatherworking shop open. She loves working in the shop, and she wants to pass it down to her son, Aaron.
Working in the shop and taking care of the kids starts to take a toll on her.She hires a temporary worker once she has the baby. She both appreciates him and resents him.
Bishop John Frey decides he needs to marry her.He is the most arrogant, self-centered character Brunstetter has ever created.I felt guilty for despising the bishop, but it was warranted.
Barbara does not love the bishop. Will she marry him anyway? What will she do when her temporary worker leaves? Will the community understand that she loves the shop or will they continue to encourage her to sell it?
I really liked Barbara. She is a self-motivated entrepreneur and a loving mother.Even when fighting postpartum depression, she has a strong will. This is another great book from Brunstetter.

5-0 out of 5 stars On Her Own
This is an excellent book. So much love and Christianity to spread around. The amish simply amaze me the way they live. I am spoiled to all the imminities and would be devastated without them. But it doesnt bother them. It would be so wonderful to have loving, caring and sharing neighbors to count on like they had.

5-0 out of 5 stars On Her Own

3-0 out of 5 stars Avoid this if you're looking for definitions
I bought this as a handy way to look up words I was unfamiliar with (BA English Lit) as I read.As I read a popular newsmagazine, a popular British murder mystery and watched a popular TV comedy, I looked up about a dozen words.Only about a third were listed, and a few of those had incomplete or erroneous definitions.VERY disappointing.

I guess this could help you spell.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Set of books!
I bought this set of books to help me write my own books. They are a great tool that I use almost everyday. These books are a great help in using different words to describe nouns, and to spice up a sentence. The vocabulary builder is great. It has groups of words that are similar in meaning or root words. It has learning quizes after every section. It is very helpful. I am very proud of my increased vocabulary thanks to this. It is a worthy purchase, I am glad that I bought this collection of books. They are easy to use, and are small enough to fit on a bookshelf with ease. The print is small so crack out your glasses if you need them. Other than that I have no issues with these books.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Set
I had a set similar to this years ago, which became dog-eared & yellowed with constant use. I replaced them with this 3-book set & the Vocabulary Builder is the best part of this set. My husband & I both love learning new words, so we'll often sit & quiz each other from this new set of books. I also use them as quick references in my writing and business ventures. The dictionary is great as an alternative to the official scrabble dictionary (when we get tired of the seemingly made up words that can't be found in any other dictionary). Maybe I'm just strange--I did read dictionaries & thesauruses for fun as a child & teen.
This set is an excellent value for the money & will be referred to & used again & again. No home or office should be without this reference set.

5-0 out of 5 stars Merriam Webster's Everyday Language Reference Set . . .
Every home needs to be equiped with certain items.A dictionary and thesaurus are two of those items. When looking to purchase these items I went with a name I trusted, Merriam Webster. I decided to purchase thecomplete set because I found it interesting that it included a vocabularybuilder. My family and I choice a word a day from the informative booksand use it as much as possible. We enjoy picking a word from the vocabbuilder, then looking it up in the dictionary. We use the thesaurus tofind similar words, and words that mean the complete opposite. The choicesare endless.I have yet heard a word that can not be found in one of thethree books. Unlike most thesaurus' this version has almost every word. It was surprising, because often with thesaurus' the choices are limited. This is one problem that I have yet to run into. I plan to purchase a fewcopies for family members and friends that are graduating in this year.Myfiance even mentioned that we need our own set when we get married. ... Read more

This small medical dictionary is perfect for my needs as an administrative assistant in a counseling center at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN.I do typing for our consulting psychiatrist once a week and sometimes the terms are challenging..glad to have an up-to-date reference book to help out.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite!
I am a person studying for nursing license exam, and I have been using this since when I took anatomy/physiology. The definitions in the dictionary are not enough to provide comphrehensive understanding, but they are good enough to refresh my memory. If you need a descent medical dictionary to use as comphrehensive reference, invest more money and get Taber or something else. As a newly graduated nursing student, I am still carrying this im my bag whenever I go to library to study NCLEX. My seven bucks to buy this one was well spent.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Italian Dictionary I have found.
I have been studying Italian for years and now teach it, and have gone through at least half dozen copies of Webster's New World Italian Dictionary. I have many others, but it is the best, by far, for usage. A simple definition, no matter how well written, is of little value if all the idiomatic possibilities are not given, and Websters does it's best to give them to you. I would have a panic attack if I found myself in Italy without it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice reference book
My daughter uses it for her Italian class. Italian words are in the first half, English in the second. She uses it often to look up words. It's nice to have when doing homework, to make sure the spelling is correct.

4-0 out of 5 stars Small but mighty
SO much more complete than other English/Italian dictionaries of its size.Occasionally, there is something missing, but it is so much better than others I have tried that I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful; Enlightening; Imperfect
Nesta Webster is one of the most frequently quoted authors in conspirational genre of history. On reading her work, I now understand why.Her writing is simply excellent. And her scholarship is outstanding.Herein, Mrs. Webster has left us with a beautiful and compelling account of the revolutionary movement from the French Revolution to the Bolshevik, the Chinese, the Indochinese, and the African.According to her excellent account, there is a guiding thread throughout all of this revolutionary activity, illuminated freemasonry. And the author certainly makes a solid case for this, skillfully tying together the writings of Weishaupt with the pronouncements of the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion and the actions of the Soviet state.

However, the work has two flaws, which may in fact be related.Mrs. Webster inveighs against Continental freemasonry, but honors Anglo Saxon freemasonry. She also portrays communism as a monstrous evil, but leaves the evil of zionism totally unaddressed. As it seems that Continental freemasonry is most closely affiliated with the communism movement and Anglo Saxon freemasonry with zionism, it may be that these errors are both intentional and related. In any case, this is an outstanding book, which this reviewer highly recommends. ... Product Description
The thesis of Webster Tarpley's 911 Synthetic Terror: Made in USA has been enthusiastically received with its working model of the 9/11 plot: a covert network of moles, patsies, and a commando cell in the privatized intelligence services, backed by corrupt political and corporate media elites.Buttressed by historical examples like the Baader-Meinhof Gang and the Gunpowder Plot, this model makes it clear how such a monstrous false-flag or self-terror exploit is possible even under a largely benign government. That paradox is the incredibility gap that has made most Americans reject the evidence about 9/11 as paranoid fantasy.Tarpley brings decades of expertise to the 9/11 issue. In 1978 he exposed the terrorist Red Brigades as patsies of Italy's fascist P2 shadow government, and 9/11 is on the same pattern. The forthright subtitle, Made in USA, is backed up by an analysis of key figures who behave like moles working for the insidious network.9/11 Synthetic Terror highlights the salient points of sheer physical impossibility of the official 9/11 conspiracy theory. It makes clear that figures like Osama bin Laden are patsies, dupes or double agents, selected for their ethnic coloring as the basis for launching a "Clash of Civilizations," and how absurd it is to imagine that such tools of US intelligence agencies could turn around and infiltrate or overwhelm US defenses unaided.Tarpley shows that the wars on the Islamic world, the Soviet-Afghan, Kosovo and Chechen conflicts, as well as US-UK-NATO synthetic terror incidents like 9/11, Beslan or 3/11 in Madrid, have been contrived to continue the Cold War, in pursuit of the centuries-long campaign for Anglo hegemony over Eurasia and the world. The preface to the second edition explains the significance and superiority of "MIHOP" vs "LIHOP," and the many drills on 9/11 and on 7/7, which were cover and conduit for those false-flag operations. The third edition preface makes clear that 9/11 is the only issue that can stop a new world war and the descent into a police state. It shows up the cowardice of the "left gatekeepers" on this score. The analysis of Moussaoui on trial as a classic weak-minded patsy -- part double agent, part fanatic -- again shows the unique power of Tarpley's mole-patsy model to debunk the lies put out by the war party. For a principled refutation of the 9/11 propaganda myth in all its parts, Tarpley'A bombshell, brilliantbook - I strongly recommend 911 Synthetic Terror. Should be required reading for all honest truth seekers, s work is indispensable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must for who wants to avoid an atomic world war
A book that grabs you. Apart from the 9/11 myth, which he calls the key to see the way our "leaders" deceive us, the author gives a global view of many other examples of massive deception in history. He explains how our criminal tax-spenders lie and kill us to wage wars and kill around the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great details and excellent writing!
Great book - one of the best. I read this after "Crossing the Rubicon" by M.Ruppert.

If you want the TRUTH that's not being told by Corporate controlled media, this is it!

2-0 out of 5 stars A true Skeptic's Review of a weak argument
I bought this book after meeting Tarpley in person and being completely intrigued by him. Let me say this first: I'm very much leaning towards believing that 911 was an inside job, but Tarpley's book, from a purely intellectual level, leaves a lot to be hoped for. His book is riddled with non-sequitors and false analogies. Don't get me wrong, I'm on his side. But not with a weak minded argument like the (might I add) cheap looking book he has here.

to intelligence and to the memory of the 3000 innocent victims felled by Islamist fanaticism

5-0 out of 5 stars Tour De Force !
This book is packed with information which probably means that if you are a beginning truth seeker, you would want to start out with something such as David Ray Griffins books as they are a little easier to read. ... Read more

Great size, easy to read but too few words for a real writer!

I bought this dictionary for my children in 4th grade. It is perfect for them, truly pocket-sized when every other book they are lugging around weighs a ton.

4-0 out of 5 stars Handy & Reliable
This mini dictionary is easily placed in a backpack, satchel, or briefcase and is a handy reference for those times when you are not so sure of spelling or usage.I love it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Merriam-Webster's Pocket Dictionary
Useful pocket dictionary, but why no "Foreign Words and Phrases" ? I and my family have been greatly indebted to the Merriam-Webster's Pocket Dictionary from the 1940s where the classy Latin section at the end of the dictionary serves to remind one of how rich human language can become if we are occasionally prepared to appropriate the elusive mot juste from a foreign language ! Also, it would be more enriching than a section of Abbreviations that are, after all, only a part of our culture's ephemera and not as lasting or deep-rooted as our reliance on Latinisms. That is the most obvious omission from the newer editions and I hope that it doesn't start a trend. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Blah, blah, blah
Interesting, if not somewhat boring. It's like a lot of books of this type. As always, the reader must put up with someone else's ideas, beliefs and opinions hoping that eventually you'll come across something that is actually helpful. Anyone who takes a good hard look at life knows that a lot of newage type people including mediums and other so called spiritual people are wrong about a whole lot of stuff, especially when relating to what they think life is about. Sure, there's life after death, angels and demons, as well as spirit people....but trying to contact them is almost a impossibility, unless your a psychic medium yourself. Even then, spirit seems to answer in cryptic responses and isn't very forth coming. Why some people/animals are helped and others are not, or understanding why there's atrocities....this book doesn't help, unless the reader is willing to believe any lame excuse. The only thing I found helpful in this book, was that as I read it, it suggested other books to read. Unless your one of millions of people who might be living the good life, who are lucky and have a somewhat closet view point on life....this book actually might work for you. For the rest of us, keep dreaming. Its in evitable, that one day you'll hit that big lottery up in the sky....and then, it really won't matter. At the very least....if you run-out of bathroom tissue....hopefully you'll have this book on hand!!

4-0 out of 5 stars this book is great
this book is fantasic...and goes into detail....all I can say is buy this book you will not be sorry.....

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
It was a good book, a lot of information, but not quite the kind of information I was looking for. I'm going to try Doreen Virtue's books to see if I can find more detailed and specific information.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book
I like this book, it's a big book all devoted to spirit guides and guardian angels, LOTS of usefull information is covered in this book, I read it 4 times so far and it's not boring yet, it's the type of book you want to look over when times are tough. It's a good buy for the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Angelic Delight........
i enjoyed this book tremendously.i read it straight thru..
Webster explains a lot about Angels (especially the Archangels) and spirit guides. He goes into the differences between Angelic helpers and spirit guides and gives meditation exercises to help put you into contact with both. There is one particular ritual in the book for invoking all 4 Archangels that was absolutely wonderful! It was my first experience in working with the Archangels and i definately felt their presence. It was a pure blessing.

i have read many books on Angels and Spirit Guides and do highly reccommend this one, but if you are a beginner, it may be best to read another book first or familiarize yourself (research) the Archangels first.........

Definately a welcomed source to the Angel section of my library.. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Does what it claims to do
This dictionary does exactly what it claims to do... it offers an easy way to look up hebrew words in either the hebrew alphabet or in the transliterated English (Latin) characters. They clearly state on the first page of the "Guide to Use" that one must memorize the transliteration system and of course know how to pronounce the Hebrew words. I did that and it has been very helpful to me. I usually find the words I'm looking for and the transliteration is not a problem.

1-0 out of 5 stars horrible
I don't know what I was thinking when I bought it.I am learning Biblical Hebrew and this is more or less for conversational Hebrew.Aside from that...Looking up a word in Hebrew to find the English is where I have the greatest difficulty.I do not like the fact the it does not follow the Hebrew AlephBet and does not exactly follow the English alphabet either.Finding the root of a verb is nearly impossible.
Too bad I lost my receipt because I would love to get a refund.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent supplemental info, riddled with errors
This dictionary has given me what I haven't found elsewhere: the stressed syllable, the actual pronunciation of the schwa, lots of inflectional details.

Unfortunately typos, omissions and errors in the alphabetical order abound. The funny translitteration makes can make it difficult to find words encountered in written text.

I give a high rating because the good stuff to me by far outweighs the negatives.

2-0 out of 5 stars Useful information but best suited for intermediate + students.
Everyone has noticed the problem: Romanized transliteration is confusing.Someone else made the excellent recommendation:learn the alef-bet (and the pointing system) and use a real dictionary.

Now that I am more familiar with written Hebrew, this dictionary has become more utile. It provides excellent instructions on pronunciation of Hebrew words. It is also handy for identifying a word that I have only heard spoken:I can just look up the transliterated word to find the meaning and the correct alef-bet spelling.

2-0 out of 5 stars Helpful for beginners, but you can do better!
This dictionary disintegrates almost from day one. Because of its thickness, the pages soon separate from the spine, necessitating the use of rubberbands to hold it together.

Although this book was helpful to me when I first began my Hebrew studies, I should have taken a few minutes to learn the Hebrew vowel pointings (nikud marks) and then purchase a regular Hebrew dictionary rather than a transliterated type.

I have the Alcalay dictionary, and I love it. It is FAR more useful than this paperback dictionary. Advice: Go with the Alcalay, if you can find one (out of print right now!). ... Read more

Book Description contributed by the publisher, A & B Book Pub
Let it be said once and for all, secret societies have not always been formed for evil purposes. On the contrary, many have arisen from the highest aspirations of the human mind, the desire for a knowledge of eternal verities. The evils arising from such systems has usually consisted in the perversion of principles that were once pure and holy.

If I do not insist further on this point it is because a vast literature has already been devoted to the subject, so that it is only mentioned briefly here. -A & B Book Pub ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Dares to say the "J" word!
Originally published in the 1930s this book covers several known secret societies that made a mark in history. The Islamic assassins, the Knights Templar, the Freemasons, the Bavarian Illuminati among others are all explored. The big thing that this book does that other more recent books on secret socieites don't do is it explores the role of Jews, the Cabala and International Jewry in this age old conspiracy. This is something that is completely neglected in most recent conspiracy related books due to political correctness. While only a fool thinks that all Jews are somehow involved in this it takes an equally foolish person not to see that while the majority of them are not Jews, Jews are still disproportionately involved and the roots of most, if not all, of the ideologies and tools that move the globalist conspiracy forward spring forth from ideologies and ideas that have roots in the Jewish culture.

5-0 out of 5 stars A historical look at Secret Societies.
This book written by Nesta Webster is not a typical sensationalistic book.
While this work is dated,it's also loaded with a lot of information about well-known and little-known secret societies. This author investigates the origin, founders, and in some cases the actions of these organisations. The French Revolution being one.
Not all of these societies are bad and that is expressed in this book.
This book is an excellent introduction to the study of secret societies and I recommend it.
It's written well and despite it's size,I found it hard to put down.

2-0 out of 5 stars Second Look
Well what can I say. It is a pretty good book although she is an ultra-leftwing political conspiracy theorist. People seem to forget the Fascism is an ultra-leftist ideology while anarchism would be an ultra-right. She places too much emphesis, with distorted facts about Zionism and this "Jewish" conspiracy. If anything from the manipulation and continual twisting of facts today concerning Israel would prove exactly opposite to her position. There is more of an International Socialism/Communism or even one could argue "Theosophy" and its ideological cohorts are determined to undermined Judaism. This arguement is holds much water due to the fact that all subversive movements are based on previous Gnostic Pagan ideologies while Judaism is the only sole faith based on monotheism. Debase Judaism, the debasement of Christianity is a very easy task. I would deffinately suggest "The Rainbow Swastika"-H.Newman or "Hitler's Preistess" for a well rounded background to understand where Webster attained her vast, and contorted hatred for the Jews. As a Christian I found many of her facts in the sections "Ancient Secret Traditions","The Cabalists", "Jewish Peril" as well the section on the Talmud to be held from a traditional anti-Jewish Catholic point of view. I believe, and advocate, that if anyone truly wish to understand Cabbalah or the Talmud to walk into your local Orthodox Synagogue and ask all your questions to a learned Rabbi. In the Jewish Culture Education and teaching others, like in Christianity, is considered a blessing.Therefor when it comes to the specifities of Jewish Theology one must go to the source, the Rabbi and the Bible. Webster bases no fact that the Jew is the only people on this planet that practice the faith Pharasee Jesus Christ had worshipped, nor does she give any account whatsoever that the entire ethical, values and moral system and the belief in one G0d in the Christian West is solely due to the Jew. I believe that any individual abovethe mere minimum level of intellect would knowledge themselves to the long history of anti-semitism. This World Jewish Conspiracy is a fraud. Israel is a State therefor Zionism is technically no more. The book is very interesting although it is very clear that she dismisses Communism and the Power Elite in Britian and America: Round Table Group and the forerunners to the Council on Foreign Relations (see "Fabian Freeway" - R. Martin.Looking back one can accurately see that Webster's insight was misguided but I must admit that for her day, one might actually believe her work, due to the 1920's the Protocols were in full swing, Pogroms, the Dreyfus Affair, Revolutions. It is too bad that Carnagee, Ford, Rockefeller (CFR) and most of the elite are not Jews. Nor are they Christians or even Muslims. A Christian believes in Jesus, A Jew believes in G0d, A Muslim believes in Mohammed and their god Allah. These power elites are gnostic or G-dless at best. It is a very interesting read but very obvious written with an agenda to further the Jew as the traditional evil in a Protocolist, anti-Semitic Europe.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book and well written.
This is a good book. Now I second everyone'se ratings with encorced acceptance BUT JESUS taught AGAINST ALL deception and any occultic movements and actions. I was in the Black Dragon and I will take a risk in saying that online but oh well.Believe me, they are very much occult and connected to illuminism. I do NOT support any of that.Any version of the Bible will clearly state this about the truth of Jesus and being a Christian. And no, it does NOT mean anyone is perfect. History books will not reveal what this book will reveal because secret societies do NOT allow their secrets to be taught openly in a way that will give anyone the power to stop them, expose them and otherwise defeat them. This is why they are called SECRET SOCIETIES. So even though you will see books and myriads of information on them through the net, you will never get a true list of all member's names, where they live and their own connections to groups like the Illuminat. And if they do that, they would be risking death for sure. The truest and darkest secrets that would damage them will not be revealed enough to allow the world to truly stop them save World War Three, and with the way things are going, I would not doubt that this will not happen in the future sorry to say:( This is what happens when you take the side of the occult in satanism via witchcraft and any occultic movement desiring a one world order under their sick, twisted and dark agendas. GOOD BOOK.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Profound History of the Conspiracy.
The world is governed by very different personages from what is imagined by those who are not behind the scenes.-Disraeli.

_Secret Societies and Subversive Movements_ by the British patriot Nesta H. Webster is a fascinating account of the various secret and subversive movements which have plotted against both throne and altar from the most ancient times to the modern day.The book relies on Webster's previous research regarding the French revolution and the "World revolution" as well as various documents by individuals such as the Abbe Barruel and Professor Robison outlining the growth and development of secret societies. The book is cleanly divided into two halves, the first focusing on the past and the second focusing on the present day (the book was written in 1924 following the horrors of the First World War).Webster's book makes for fascinating reading, explaining fully the rise of secret societies and subversive movements from their most ancient origins in various mystery cults until her time.

The first section of this book focuses upon what Webster regards as "the past".The book begins by noting the role of the ancient secret tradition in various mystery cults which existed in ancient times. The book focuses particularly on the Jewish cabala (which Webster argues has been distorted by the Talmud, the Sephir Yetzirah, the Zohar, and other ancient texts).Webster quotes from individuals such as Eliphas Levi and Gougenot de Mousseaux regarding the role of this ancient system.Webster then turns her attention to the coming of the redeemer, foreshadowed perhaps in the ancient world traditions, though brought to earth in the person of Jesus Christ.Webster notes the various modern day distortions which have been claimed about Jesus including those which argue for a "Christian" socialism and those which claim that Jesus was influenced by the Essenes.Webster thoroughly refutes both of these claims by reference to Holy Scripture.Webster also shows how Christianity became distorted by both the Gnostics and the Manicheans as well as other heretics after Christ's death and resurrection.Following this discussion, Webster turns her attention to the revolt against Islam. Here she notes particularly disturbing instances within Islam of various subversive movements which advocated outright materialism and atheism. She shows how these movements claimed to be part of the Islamic tradition; however, upon reaching the higher grades the initiate was informed that he had been duped by religion which was regarded to be a sham.Webster also notes such notorious Islamic societies as the Assassins, who played an important role in the ancient and medieval world.Webster next turns her attention to the Templars, noting the blasphemies of which they have been accused as well as their relationship with various Islamic societies.Webster claims that the beliefs of the Templars bear a striking similarity to those of the false Cabala; in particular, she notes the various distortions of Christianity present in both the Talmud and the lies about Christ present in the Toledot Yeshu.Webster next turns her attention to occultism, noting the presence of Satanism and Rosicrucianism, particularly as these relate to freemasonry.Webster also shows how freemasonry has actively conspired against throne and altar, particularly Continental masonry (though she denies the influence of malevolent elements to such a great extent within Anglo-American masonry).Webster also explains the rise of the Grand Lodge within masonry as well as German templarism and French illuminism. The influence of Swedenborgianism as well as the influence of various mysterious recurring individuals such as the Comte de Saint-Germain keep recurring within the masonic literature.Webster also shows the rise of the Jewish cabalists distinguishing between the false cabala (of the Talmud and the Toledot Yeshu) and the true cabala which may have been a precursor of Christianity (in particular the Trinity). She also shows how Jewish beliefs in a coming Messiah play an important role in their tradition.Webster also examines the role of the Bavarian Illuminati, a secret society started by Adam Weishaupt, a professor of canon law, in Ingolstadt, Bavaria and modeled after the Jesuit order in many respects. The Bavarian Illuminati actively plotted against the monarchy, and they became adherents to a rationalist/materialist philosophy upon reaching the higher grades.Another important figure in the society of the Illuminati was that of Baron von Knigge, referred to as "Philo" by his Illuminati compatriots.Webster suggests that the roots of the Illuminati philosophy are to be found in the Jewish cabala, along with the tight linkage between cabalists and various other freemasonic groups.Webster also notes how Jesuitism and British masonry may provide suitable sources for reaction against subversive elements.

Webster next turns her attention to the modern day. Here, she explains the role of freemasonry in bringing about revolution. In particular, Webster shows the errors of socialism, a system which claims to be for the working class but which in fact operates against the interests of workers.Indeed, socialism may be a viable alternative for the finance capitalist.Webster links several groups which may play a role in the coming revolution. These include pan-Germanism, Illuminism, Bolshevism, International Finance, British Socialism, and the Jewish peril. The real initiates may be members of any of these various groups.Webster also shows the subversive elements within such movements as those surrounding Aleister Crowley and the Theosophical Society. Finally, Webster traces the role of the Jewish cabala through the many secret societies up until the modern day.

This book provides an excellent historical perspective on the inner workings of various secret societies and subversive movements which operate behind the scenes seeking to obtain power over the lives of billions.
