Garfield for the beginning reader
Garfield never fails to charm children of all ages. This book is great for the beginning reader. If, however, you are trying to stress the importance of physical fitness, Garfield is a poor example anytime, and especially in this book. But, as long as the child is made to understand that Garfield is just a funny, ( hilarious, really), fictitious cat, and not a role model, then all will enjoy his antics. ... Read more

A Not-So Elite Book
Co-author Davis usually writes outstanding works on Third Reich Militaria but this co-authoring effort is mediocre. The lead author, Sharpe has produced a very uneven work. A look at the bibiliography shows how little research & editorial effort went into this. Most of the LAH photos are non-combat ceremonial while most of the frontline photos cannot be specifically identified to the LAH. Many of the captions are a joke. A photo of a SS-VT soldier firing a Mauser Schnellfeuer is identified as a Luger. A rare photo of Sepp Dietrich in black SS uniform shows him with his lower right tunic button undone and his swastika armband (kampfbinde) slipped down below his elbow to his lower left forearm, so it rests just above the Adolf Hitler cufftitle. A single rejected photo never previously published is not enough to warrant purchase of this title. The maps are virtually useless. This book is just adequate for a budding high school military history buff but it's insufficient when compared to the many other superior books on the subject. ... Read more

Review of The New Star
We can't say enough about this book. Primarily focused on the creation and purpose of the Star of Bethlehem, it is a different but pure and truthful approach to sharing the Christmas story. It is both a scientific explanation AND an incredible testament of creation, AND is legal to read in public school! The illustrations are gorgeous, especially if you're an "outer space fan". The story is exciting, and there are optional flaps to open on each page that offer more biblical information on each portion of the story if you want to go further at home. This makes a great book for boys, and is for some reason very hard to find in retail stores, so get it here! ... Read more
