3-0 out of 5 stars Psychologists need this book!
This is an excellent book of MMPI profiles. It is organized according to profile types and has documentation of many actual cases to show characteristics of people with particular profiles. The book is valuable to the psychological profession but not to the layman. If you use MMPIs for testing, this book is great. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth your time
This book is one I will recommend to my friends and put on my "read again" shelf. I felt the love, loss and longing of each of these women--so much so, that a few of the letters could have been written by me. So many of us are at the stage in our life where we want to know and understand our parents, if for no other reason than to know and understand ourselves.
In reading Deborah Berger's book, questions are answered and more questions are raised. DEAR MOM --Women's Letters of Love, Loss and Longing is thought-provoking, well-written, and very much worth the time it takes to read it.

5-0 out of 5 stars For all daughters
These letters speak to the beauty, misunderstandings, longings and love that dwell within most mother-daughter relationships. Not only will it inspire women to pick up a pen, it will help women find the words and courage to say what often remains unsaid. An inspiring and poignant collection of essays.

5-0 out of 5 stars Share this book with your siblings
Reading this wonderful collection of letters was like being in a room with a group of wise, thoughtful women, all sharing their stories about their mothers. Whether the letters described love, loss, or longing, they revealed the rich complication at the heart of most mother-daughter relationships. I enjoyed lingering over the letters and insightful profiles--one or two at a time--and ended up feeling less alone in my feelings about my mother. I'm going to send a copy to my sister. ... Editorial Review

Every Parent's Guide to the Law is an easy-to-understand and easy-to-reference resourceguide to parenting and the law that no family should be without. You may know when to expect your child to begin teething or how to give a "time out," but do you know enough about kids and tax issues? What about parental rights in the workplace? As Deborah L. Forman, a nationally known expert on family law and author of Every Parent's Guide to the Law, writes, "...the law has something to say about virtually every aspect of child rearing, from the decision to start a family to the fate of children after parents die."

Forman provides information on your teen's right to contraception, the ins and outs of adoption procedures, ways to deal with the juvenile court system, a pregnant woman's obligation to her fetus, gay parents' rights, fathers' rights, medical care regulations, laws regarding sperm and egg donation, what you can expect at a child support hearing, your child's right to disability education, and much more. This "big book" has legal information on everything that might possibly concern a parent. Laws differ from state to state, so by definition a book like this cannot supplant good legal assistance, but Every Parent's Guide to the Law is a good place to look before you call the lawyer. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I am curious about. . .
It seemed to be easier raising children years ago. Society has become complex; more mothers are in the workforce; more children are raised in single-parent households and there are increasingly more choices involving pregancy and starting a family.

Every Parent's Guide to the Law by Deborah L. Forman offers practical advice to the problems and situations parents face daily and an awareness of legal issues parents may encounter. This valuable reference book should be in every parent's library. Useful as a reference tool, it is also well-written and an easy read. Case studies are interspersed throughout and help interpert complex legal problems.

I would recommend this book to anyone starting a family or to parents with children at home. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ignore the above review
Whoever reviewed this book (above) is missing the point entirely. The issue is not good daycare vs. bad daycare; rather, it is the institution of daycare itself, as an entity, as a fixture in our modern society, that is being analyzed - and ultimately deemed corrupt and dangerous.
When children are separated from their parents, at young ages, for hours and hours at a time, they feel abandoned and desperate. The programs offered by the centre, or the staff-to- child-ratio, is irrelevent. Quality childcare occurs at home, where there is love, affection, and devotion - not in brightly lit holding tanks where children wait and wait and wait for their parents to rescue them. What a life for these poor souls. Fallow's work is wonderful and had a huge impact on my life, and the lives of my friends. It may upset a lot of women who think daycare is just dandy, but easing the guilty consciences of irresponsible, selfish parents is clearly not on this author's agenda, thank goodness. ... Read more
