5-0 out of 5 stars Pearls Indeed!
Whether you live in the country, plan to move, or simply dream about - this is the book you'll want to own. Tips on living smarter, spending less and making it all last longer make this book a pearl indeed. It wasn't all that long ago that people knew how to live without every modern convenience. Country wisdom gleened from many sources is delivered in this first rate edition. Some ideas are practical, common sense items, some you'd never think of. I'm keeping this book nearby for reference and inspiration. It goes along perfectly with my collection of Tightwad Gazette books. Buy this book, learn how to conserve, reuse, make do and pass it on to others.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great treat for country and city dwellers alike!
Knowing Deborah personally, I can say she lives what she writes. She's a precious woman, who has learned to move from city to country and can help anyone who wants to do the same! The tips in this book however are not only for country folks! Being a city dweller myself, I found them timely, cost saving and just plain interesting to say the least- ideas I never would have thought of. If you own Carla Emery's book, THE ENCYCLOPEDIA TO COUNTRY LIVING, you will love this book as well- it's a great compliment and there are not any repeats of information. I love the lawn care and kitchen helps, as we have children with allergies and a dog that we don't want to use alot chemicals around. The tips in this book are invaluable and well worth the monies! I really love the updated design and hardcover version of this treasure as well. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceedingly funny!
Debbie Farmer's Life in the Fast Food Lane had me laughing out loud so often. As the mother of four kids, not to mention the occasional goldfish, semi-permanent turtle and seemingly permanent hamster, I really appreciate Debbie's self-deprecating, yet never sarcastic, look at family life. Her take on bathing suits and homemade cleaning solutions had me laughing so hard I cried! Finally, as a humor writer myself, I'm a tough audience to please, and Debbie is first-rate.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Humor!!
I love this book! Every time I feel overwhelmed by the unbelievably difficult job of parenting, I love to grab a cup of tea and Debbie Farmer's book, Life in the Fast-Food Lane. Her knowledgeable and witty essays about the challenges of raising kids always makes me laugh and reassures me that I'm not crazy. Anyone who is a parent will enjoy this book and I'm sure, will be able to relate to Debbie and her riotious adventures that she has so kindly decided to share with the world. Thanks Debbie!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious book!
Debbie Farmer is a terribly funny humor columnist who is known to her readers as being dead-on with her observations of motherhood and family life. This book does not disappoint... it is all here, every thrilling moment in the life of "the domestically impaired," as she puts it. You'll love this book for its warm wit and self-deprecating humor! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a REAL WORLD guide to raising your children.
Ms Herman takes you through pregnancy to adulthood in this all encompassing guide to raising your children to be creative, loving, and have high self esteem. This guide takes you through the REAL world along with Ms Herman as she spins examples of what has happened in her own life and how she and her children have dealt with various stages and experiences that her family has grown through. I appreciate this book for that. It is not all fluff, baby pink and blue, but it deals with life and how to live it and come out proud of your children and of YOU!

I also love the spiritual guidance that she has sprinkled throughout the book. This is not heavy handed, but given in love and it is good advice! She talks about the various spiritual lessons that one goes through in life and it is a resource that I will go back to again and again.

Overall, I would recommend and purchase this book for any parent and I have! The title itself is a stress reliever for new anxious parents and it is a hit at showers. The contents of the book reinforces that angle as it lets you know in a loving way that everyone makes mistakes and it is never too late to start correcting them for your child's sake. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Reference for Nurse, Childbirth Educator, Doula!
Whether you are a nurse who needs a reference about anything regarding maternal child health; a midwife, a childbirth educator or doula who is in search of a comprehensive reference manual for practice, this text is one of the most outstanding. The information is well organized from preconception to postpartum and includes wellness issues as well as the technocratic side of maternity care. Emotional and cultural aspects are included. The area of medications/side effects used during labor/birth is somewhat thin and vague (But this is the only disappointing section). There are many useful graphics, illustrations, tables and charts to enhance the reader's understanding of the content. An extensive bibliography follows each chapter. I have been using this in my practice for over a year and continue to be generallly thrilled with the extent of the content! ... Read more
