Editorial Review

Product Description
This second volume in Modern Methods of Plant Analysis, New Series concentrates on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, a powerful technique that is now being used for plant studies in a major way. This is the first time that a series of chapters by leading experts on the application of NMR to plant cells has been assembled in a single volume. The methods are described in detail so that even beginners can apply them directly in the laboratory. Topics include general metabolism in higher plants and fungi, intercellular pH, energy status, DNA structure analysis, multiple quantum two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy, chloroplast orientation, rubber analysis, and the use of NMR to determine pollen viability. This volume should provide not only an excellent practical guide to the possibilities of NMR application to the plant sciences, but also give impetus to its future use. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Nuclear Magnetic Resonance," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Nuclear Magnetic Resonance in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Nuclear Magnetic Resonance when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

Product Description
This volume, as does Volume 176, provides a general background of modern NMR techniques, with a specific focus on NMR techniques that pertain to proteins and enzymology, and a "snapshot" of the current state-of-the-art in NMR experimental techniques. These books enable the reader to understand a given technique, to evaluate its strengths and limitations, to decide which is the best approach, and, finally, to design an experiment using the chosen technique to solve a problem. ... Editorial Review

Product Description
This book is primarily a handbook for those scientists interested in using tritium NMR spectroscopy. It covers the development and use of the technique, which is the only non- destructive method available for the routine determination of labelling patterns in tritium labelled compounds, essential tools for research in the life sciences. The book highlights the uses of the technique not only for determining the positions of labels but also in understanding catalysed hydrogen isotope exchange reactions, the function and mechanism of action of catalysts, reaction mechanisms and isotope effects. Environmental chemistry, radiation chemistry and other analytical applications involving the use of tritium labelled compounds as tracers are also described. A comprehensive review of tritium NMR spectroscopy is provided in the three chapters of the text which discuss experimental aspects, labelling patterns and methods for tritium labelling, and applications of tritium NMR spectroscopy. Many scientists interested in this book may not have direct access to an NMR instrument capable of producing tritium NMR spectra but they will find useful the many examples of the spectra obtained from a number of methods of tritiation which for convenience are given in tabular form grouped under compound type. In these tables the authors have attempted to include all the tritium NMR assignments reported in the literature and a wealth of their own material. For the increasing number of groups who are using this technique the book provides a full theoretical background as well as practical guidance. ... Read more

Product Description
"Laboratory Guide to Proton NMR Spectroscopy" offers a step-by-step guide to proton NMR interpretation for students and bench organic chemists who have no particular experience in this field. A feature of the book is that it seeks to establish a logical approach to interpretation prior to dealing with features of special interest. Each major feature contained in the book is exemplified with an actual spectrum and includes at the end of the book a list of 20 graded questions, together with hints, worked answers and a score sheet. ...
