- This ITIL exam prep book and course are an invaluable study aid for passing the ITIL Foundation exam. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book and elearning course
I truly enjoyed this book and elearning course. It was comprehensive, well, written, easy to follow, and the price was just right. You can't beat this value. It was interactive as well. There is only one practice test so I recommend that youcomplete additional practice tests.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality and value
I did extensive research before settling on this book and elearning course. It was comprehensive and interesting. Moreover the price was right. The tools on the website that accompany this book are well put together. I look forward to taking the test and will keep you posted on results. Check out their site at [...]

5-0 out of 5 stars ITIL V3 certification Kit
I am learning about ITIL in my Master's degree program, and picked up this book for my class. This book has been great at explaining what ITIL is, where is came from, and how to use it. The book is very plain and easy to read. However, the online site has a lot more material than the book. Just the material on the website far out weights the material in the book. Anyone who want to learn about ITIL and obtain the certification, this is will worth the purchase. I will be obtaining this certification once I complete my Master's degree in a few weeks. This is something any IT professional should learn about it. It will help you understand your part in the big picture of the IT world at any company.

ITIL V3 Foundation Complete Certification Kit - Third Edition: Study Guide Book and Online Course

5-0 out of 5 stars ITIL Certification Kit
I highly recommend the ITIL Certification Kit. The information is presented in a format that either the advance or novice professional can comprehend. When you purchase this certification kit you are not only getting great study information but access to other professionals that are either preparing for their certification or who have already passed the exam. Additionally I have been pleased with the customer service received. Someone has always responded to my questions/concerns in a timely manner.

4-0 out of 5 stars Third Edition Gets Info Across - But Needs Fourth Edition
When I was advised to quickly work toward a Foundation Certification with ITIL v3, this book was at the top of the list. The information contained within iseffective, and it also comes with online training and in-book tests to ensure that you retain the knowledge. I blasted through it in just a couple of days, and I'm confident enough that I've already scheduled my Foundation Cert exam.

That being said, this book certainly feels raw. I must give a lot of credit to the authors for being able to boil ITIL into such a tight work. However, formatting issues on the pages, as well as odd phrasing and awkward concision, means that I often have to reread sections intensely--even rewriting some portions on my own--in order to thoroughly grasp the concepts.

It's not that big of a deal, honestly. If you have the patience to grind through some of the denser parts, you won't have a problem. However, I would advise the authors of this book to hire a good editor for their next release. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good book, allot of errors
This book has allot of errors. Besides typos and references to tables they have some information just wrong. For example it talks about PIM-DM state refresh messages. Book says they are sent upstream from routers, however when I tested it in the lab I found that the messages can only be originated at the source interface for the S,G and sent downstream and are not enabled by default as the book would have you think. This makes me wonder about the credibility of the rest of the information in the book. Most information seems correct however. They really should have taken more time fact-checking and editing this book. Some sections are broad overviews and I find myself reading into more specifics in the CCNP books that cover the same topic.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid Book and nice coverage of MPLS and IPv6
I found this book to be well-organized and presented in a fashion that aids learning. In particular, I really enjoyed the IPv6 and MPLS chapters, which I didn't have much experience with. I feel like I have a solid understanding of both now. Most of the errors I found were corrected in released Errata; however, one still has not. Don't let this trip you up--regarding 3560 Switch QoS on page 558 it states the following in regards to Egress Queues:

"Both shared and shaped mode schedulers prevent the PQ from exceeding its configured bandwidth when all the other queues have frames waiting to be sent. The shaped scheduler never allows any queue, PQ or non-PQ, to exceed its configured percentage of link bandwidth, even if that means that link sits idle."

That is really not correct, as you can see here on Cisco documentation: [...]
"The expedite queue is a priority queue, and it is serviced until empty before the other queues are serviced."

I ran this by a few other engineers, and they also agree with this assessment, that it will indeed starve the other queues unless you explicitly configure policing. Overall, the book is really great though. I just hope they update that section.I'm also surprised that the book never mentions that Spanning-Tree BPDUs are sent to the MCAST address 01:80:C2:00:00:00. There's also not much detail on QinQ tunneling, and I had to access other resources to get the config portion.

Overall, though, I feel that this has covered all material you'll see on the lab pretty well, though it is not a deep-dive, and you need to master all of the config and troubleshooting with LOTS of hands-on still.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing book !
I bought this book to prepare my CCIE written exam and what can I say is that this book isone of the best books I've ever read on networking. I started my Cisco Career with the CCNA exam book and the style is very similar (thanks Mr Odom).

You will be able to find DIKTA topic (Do I Know This Already ?) and it really help to gauge your knowledge on the topic. I tought I knew the spanning-tree protocol and after I checked the answer I told myself that I needed to read a bit more about it .... Such a great thing !

The content is very well-structured, all concepts are supported by numerous examples so even if one doesn't understand the subject in it's depth he or she can find an answer to a specific real-world question.

This book will provide you great insight and deep understanding of a wide scope of networking subject.
It definitely helps to understand the technology. The words used by the authors are very simple to understand and it is very easy then for a non fluent english speaker (such as me).

The examples used in the scenarios makes you feel confident with the topic.

This book is A MUST Have for every serious CCIE student. I highly recommend it !

Also you will receive a DVD which let you install Boson software and practice the CCIE written exam. It is awesome to train on that product. It really helped me !

Exceptionnal work Wendell Odom, Rus Healy, Denise Donohue.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This book has just enough information, I would rather say a perfect book to brush up all the topics for Written exam very easy to follow and read

also keeping in mind we need to renew our written exam certification every two year this book will be needed today or tomorrow I agree Cisco will add stuff but still book looks very promissing to me.

4-0 out of 5 stars A lot of errors, though a good read
The book covers the new exam topics and is useful as a reference. There are a lot of errors, especially when being referred to a particular table number and it doesn't exist. It seems the book was rushed for printing and wasn't reviewed thoroughly.Other than these issues the book was a nice read and I would highly recommend Cisco Press take their time on the next edition. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars most of the graphics can't be shown on Mac and iPad system
Most of the image titled under "crow copyright 2007 Reproduced under license from OGC" ,if it is not all, can't show up on my Mac and ipad. it is a critical failure and the book just can't serve the purpose.
I'd spend the whole day to find a way to report this problem or make a return. however,it seems Amazon have no proper management on kindle book related service.

5-0 out of 5 stars ITIL V3 foundation
The book and online training helped me pass my ITIL exam. The material is well organized. The Prep Exam was representative of the types of questions in the exam. There's a lot of material to understand for this exam and if you have to study on your own this is the way to go.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good for a primer
I am a certified PMP who also has quite a bit of experience in ITIL V2.I purchased this kit to be able topass the V3 foundations exam to finally be certiifed in ITIL.The kit together gives the reader enough information to have an understanding of the ITIL framework components, and the online tools will be able to help them "test out" what the read in the book. The examples and illustrations in the book are relevant to the context of the concepts and passing the exam with this tool kit should be very easy with ~10-15 hrs of prep time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Find a different resource
I was a teacher in a past career, and I have been working in IT Project Management for over a decade.Accuracy and clarity in writing are critical to me, and this book lacks both.Dramatically so.It feels as if it was either written by someone who doesn't speak English as a first language, or it was badly translated from another language by someone with no ITIL understanding.I desperately wish I'd read the reviews before purchasing it, but I saw the 4 star average and trusted that.I hope others do not make the same mistake, hence my 1 star review to (hopefully) bring down the average.I'm highly skeptical of the 5 star reviews.

5-0 out of 5 stars Official Guide - All You Need
Don't be fooled by the large font and the low page count--this book is all you need to get your ITILv3 Foundation certification. The online course is a must--it mostly covers the same material as the book, but when watched in conjunction with reading the book you'll get a fuller appreciation for the material. Also, there are a couple of topics that will appear on the exam that are only covered by the online course.I studied this material for about a week, then knocked out the exam in 20 minutes with a 90.

This is material that's valuable to any IT technician or manager--not only does it outline organizational best-practices, it clearly demonstrates WHY those are best practices.I highly recommend this book and this certification. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Review for APN Exam
I highly recommend this book for anyone studying for their FNP/APN exam.It is an easy read with tons of information and practice questions.

5-0 out of 5 stars good book
I like this book due to the fact that it is to the point, summarizes everything so that you can understand things better and helps in critical thinking. Only thing that I wished this book had was more questions and answers and rationale for answers. Overall for the price I think this is the best book you can buy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good test tips but impractical questions
I found the beginning of the book helpful in offering test tips and ways to decipher a question, but I found myself increasingly frustrated with the review questions. There is a gross lack of information given. For example, a pregnant woman, 30 weeks gestation presents with a trace of leukocytes in her urine, 2+ protein, neg blood, positive weight gain 5 lbs.Answer is pre-eclampsia hypertension. There is no mention of the blood pressure.Pre-eclampsia is defined as a rise in SBP 30mmHg or more, 15mmHg in DBP (or > 140/90) and proteinuria, most often accompanied by pedal edema.I would find it hard to diagnose hypertension in the absence of elevated blood pressure.
While the answer can be derived, I would think there would be some mention of BP when diagnosing pre eclampsia hypertension.

2-0 out of 5 stars LAME!
The last thing I needed while studying for this exam was to find errors like everyone else did. While Ms. Leik may have put out another non-error filled book, I ordered the latest copy available. Lame.

1-0 out of 5 stars Many, many errors
I purchased this book early on to use both to synthesize all of the information in my program for the last semester, and to prepare for the certification exam. I ended up getting rid of the book pretty quickly because it is full of errors, typographical as well as information that is wrong. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ccrn
Great questions to study with. It was recommended by a clinical nurse specialist and other ccrn prepared registered nurses who taught the review class I took.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for examinees
I am not yet ready to take the practice tests in this book, but already I have shown this product to 5 other people, who plan to buy it also!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it for the CD
I bought several items to study for the CCRN.I found the CD for this book (it comes with it) to be the most helpful part of my preparation for the test.Since AACN puts this out, I assumed the practice test questions would be more indicative of what I would find on the actual CCRN test and this turned out to be correct.I highly recommend using the CD for most of your practice question review. The rationale section teaches you how AACN wants you to answer these questions.I passed with an overall score of 89% and scored a 100% on many sections with 95% on cardiac and over 90% on pulmonary.I also used the Pass CCRN materials and found the review book to have way too much information than necessary.I thought the CD portion was very helpful, but the practice questions were a lot harder than what you'll find on the actual test. It's a great resource to have on hand, but I'd recommend you invest in a good review series like a DVD review from Laura Gasparis or David Woodruff's series ([...]).I used Woodruff's series mainly for the bulk of the review. He has an iPod series that has all the basic information you need to pass the test while Pass CCRN is a complete comprehensive review of topics that will never show up on the CCRN.I usually recommend to friends that they get an overall review like Gasparis or Woodruff, and this AACN book with the CD to practice questions.Good luck!

5-0 out of 5 stars not a refrence, just questions! Very Helpful!!!
Don't buy this book as a reference. It is only Questions. Between the book and CD u get about 1200 questions. I just passed the exam w/ 90% right. The questions in this book are MORE difficult than the actual CCRN questions. This book is an excellet resource! I highly recomend it!

4-0 out of 5 stars AACN....to pass CCRN
This is the best book to read if you are preparing to take CCRN.
It covers topics within the CCRN test plan and will give you detailed explanation why it is or isn't the correct answer. Very informative!
Good luck to all who plan to take CCRN, by the way, I passed it. :-) ... Read more

This book arrived in very mint condition. It looks still brand new. Very happy with my purchase!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pharmacy tech wrkbk & cert review
came quickly, haven't used the books yet, my class starts May20, but I imagine everything is a-ok.

1-0 out of 5 stars not even close to new
When I ordered the book I was told it was in perfect condition. It might have left that way, but it didn't arrive that way...The top and bottom right hand corners are bent and the cover is torn. There is also a lot of black stuff on the front cover and edges of the pages. My guess is that this is due to the way it was packaged for shipping. The book measures 8 1/2"w x 11 1/2"h x 1/2"d. The box it came in measures 14"w x 12"h x 3"d and it did not have any packing material inside. My guess is it traveled 3,000 miles flopping around in that box. I emailed the seller twice with no response.

Thanks,

Gloria Beatty

5-0 out of 5 stars Great workbook to study for PTCB exam when used in conjunction with textbook
I studied for my PTCB national certification exam using this workbook and the textbook "The Pharmacy Technician, 3rd ed" by Morton Publishing. Although the textbook was helpful, this workbook offered many additional study problems that complemented the textbook. The workbook offers a variety of problems, presented in a slew of different ways so you can verify your understanding of the various subjects. Types of different questions include true/false, fill in the blank, matching problems, mathematical conversion exercises and more.

I think if you purchased just the workbook, some of the concepts might be confusing if you'd never been exposed to them before. However, as a supplement to the textbook, it is very effective. These books definitely helped me pass my exam on the first try and I highly recommend this workbook. ... Read more

Good question and answer text.It gives you a preview of what kind of questions to expect.Didn't like all perianesthesia areas in one text.

2-0 out of 5 stars Book review
I origionally thought this was a good book till I had to pay attention to the references and realized they were to a totally different book.I would have bought this as a partner to another book had I known but now it is too late and have to study from a much older version. The questions and rationales are great but the education is elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent review for exam
This book gives the question and the explanation of the answer. It was an invaluable resourse for the exam. It worked for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book as promised! Like new.
The book was received in like new condition as advertised so I gave it 5 stars. However, I wish it shipped faster.

4-0 out of 5 stars Certification Review for Perianesthesia Nursing
So far, this book is a pretty good review.Seems like most of the questions are set up like the board questions, where 2-3 answers are right, and you need to figure out what ASPAN thinks you should do first. The annotated answers are vague at times, and you need to do further research to get a straight answer.Overall, I would recommend this book. Good luck on the test! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good content
The content in the book is a great review. My only complaint is the layout of some of the review sections. ie: instead of listing all of the developmental milestones for a 2 yr old it organizes it by types of development.....so it will list all of the fine motor development for every age then go and list all of the gross motor for every age. It kinda jumps around with points. Overall a good review though.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent Review Book
I bought this book to review for the certification exam and to help me with my studying during the last 2 semesters of my program. It is pretty good. The pages are thick enough that they can handle being highlighted without bleeding though too much to the other side (very important for study materials!). The information in each section is decent, and there are several questions. However, there are no explanations/rationale for the answers, so that's a missed opportunity for learning. There is minimal information on pharmacology, but I'm trusting them that it has what we need to know. It's not what you'd want to use to study for a pharmacology exam, though. Overall, I'm glad I got it, but it certainly won't be the only study guide I use! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars So so....
Like others say, it only has questions and answers. not interesting at all. It might be helpful if you use this finishing review all other med/surg books, but I wouldn't recommend this.

2-0 out of 5 stars You just memorize a bunch of facts
Although this book is filled with useful information, it only provides questions and precise answers. When one is studying for the boards, it is important to exercise critical thinking skills and decision-making processes.Because this book only gives answers and questions, the reader has no other recourse than to memorize these facts without understanding the basis of why the answer is what it is.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good book for review
This book was very helpful for reviewing for the certification exam. What I didn't like about it is that there were no rationales given and only the correct answer was given. The real test is multiple choice therefore I think that book should be too.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT
IT HAS ALL THE INFORMATION THAT I NEEDED, AN EXCELLENT RESOURCE OF INFORMATION, I'M SO GLAD THAT I ORDERED IT. THANK YOU

1-0 out of 5 stars Not the review I expected
I bougth this book, hoping to review for the exam by doing test questions and getting the hang of the exam. However, this book did not prove helpful at all.The questions had detailed answers but it did not give typical senerios or common use medicical practice. To take the boards exam you need practice practice practice with questions not just reading questions.
I would not recommend this product. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Timing
This book arrived in great condition, but the best part is that it arrived within 2 working days of my order when it was projected for 4 weeks. I really appreciate that! It arrived in time for me to use it to study for my exam. Thank you so much.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST Review tool!
I bought 6 different review books. I rate this one as the BEST just because of the CD with the practice tests, these practice tests where very close to what the real test was like. I just took the AANP exam today and passed! This book is a MUST have. I found some of the questions from this book on the actual test. Excellent resource.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dated material
The format is user-friendly. I, too, found mistakes and rationales that at times contradicted the right answer! I am not sure if this is sloppy editing, or what, but it is not desirable in board review materials. My chief complaint is that much of the material seems dated. When exactly was this 2nd edition published? In the state (AZ) where I'll be practicing, NPs have prescriptive powers. There are answers such as, "Have the physician prescribe . . . . " Some of the material addressing thyroid disease seems a bit out of keeping with current guidelines and the Peds section does not seem to follow current CDC guidelines for immunizations. I think they have a good thing going here, but they need to update the material periodically.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great test review
I took my ANCC exam Feb 2009 and passed with flying colors and this book really helped. I used the CD several times, perhaps once daily 2 weeks before the test and it was extremely helpful. The CD generates a different test every time from the same bank of questions. Some questions were very similar as those as the ones in the exam. Another excellent sources were Margaret Fitzgerald and Maria Leik, Ifound these textbooks very helpful while preparing for the exam.If you use these books you should not have a problem. I also used the ANCC review guide it was good but$$. Good luck.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not excellent
Although this book helped me a lot to pass IBM exam 730, I must note that:

(a) There is a small number of unpleasant errors in the book, including at least
two incorrect answers to sample test questions and several mistakes in sample
test questions themselves.

(b) When taking the exam, I saw at least three questions which were completely
out of scope of that book.

So use with care.

2-0 out of 5 stars The complete one
DB2 9 Fundamentals Certification Study Guide
This is very complete but in my opinion isn't the best to study to get the certification.

4-0 out of 5 stars Roger Does It Again
This book follows the authors history of writing solid books about db2. This book gets you about 80% of the way - the other 20% is hands on work and personal determination.

Good work!

3-0 out of 5 stars Very good to apply in Real-time, Just not enuf to clear the toughest version of Test!
I appeared today for my exam and felt like i was hit by storm after carefully reading this book thrice. I certainly agree its a very good resource for understanding concept, but not completely informative to clear the exam. I would rather want to say that the questions i appeared for were not the the typical ones, rather had some tough tone to it. Whichever way, my advise would be carry few other valuable resources and try practicing as much as possible before your actual test.

Had several study guides and I really learned more from this kit than all of the others. With real world examples and scenarios it was easy to understand and remember the information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for passing the Security+
I bought this package as a starting place to pass my Security+ certification. I couldn't put the book down. It has amazing references, notes, and practice test in each chapter. I was able to read the entire book in 2 weeks. Now, i'm on to the CD-ROM to practice. Great product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource that helped me pass along with a few other internet study guide resources
This is a great study resource that helped me prepare for the exam. I would also recommend looking at the flash card resources at Flash Card Certified. They really helped while reading this book. I passed the test the first shot around so the combination of the two must have worked. I would definitely recommend this product to a friend if they were thinking about taking the exam.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not just good for Certification but good for daily use as well
this Book Series was a great tool to study for the SY0-201 Certification test and its a valuable asset to use on a daily basis if you are in the IT field of security. I use it for just about everything around the office, i even use it to brush up on old tricks of the trade that i learned a long time ago that are now in the updated books. they are easy to read and well put together, i tend to loose interest in books after a while but i never got bored of this series. i would definately recomend this product for those trying to get into the IT field or just to brush up on security knowledge. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't bridge the gap.
I had to order this book for a Linux class I was taking. The course followed the book, but the issue is the book doesn't do a good job of bridging the gap between Linux and the vast majority of Windows users. It goes directly into the command line, which may be the most powerful aspect of Linux, ,but doesn't ease the transition from Windows. The book/course will come with a Red Hat Fedora distribution which is fine but it doesn't come with some essentials, like Adobe Flash. This has to be installed manually, but there aren't any good GUI examples of installing programs, so you can't watch YouTube videos to get any help either. It may be true that this is geared towards certification, and my class is an introductory class to Linux, but if you are looking for a beginner's guide to Linux, this book isn't it.Be prepared to have command line experience to get the most out of this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best Linux guide out there
This is, hands down, the best general Linux guide I have read.It covers everything from day one stuff down to kernel compilation in a straight-forward, real-life use approach.Go from true novice to capable admin with this comprehensive, easy-to-understand, exercises-up-the-wazoo-to-help-you-solidify-your-knowledge guide.I don't keep many books, but I will certainly be keeping this one.

To the 1-star rater who said it is dry:yes, it is.Hi, it's Linux.

5-0 out of 5 stars Linux+ Guide to Linux Cetification Second edition
This book is really good for people who want to learn Linux. I had to get this because I'm taking a class on Linux. I've been a computer tech for 6 years, and before the past year i was hating Linux. Even having this book for days I've been learning how to use Linux a lot more. Out of all the books i read this book was great and its not boring. How they put the words together. The good thing was that this book was shipped to me fast like in 3 days at the maximum. The only bad thing i saw in the book so far were minor ( They are using a verry old Fedora Core) You can get the new one which is version 13, and the book comes with cds which has Fedora Core2.

4-0 out of 5 stars Quality
Book is outdated but the main ideas are still the same as well as all of the commands, you can learn Linux off of this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Remarkable
Good insight into both CCENT and CCNA.

The book from my point of view is not for people that don't have a history in the field of Information Technology. The reason towards my opinion originates from the constructive introductions of the book. The books is self explanatory, and the author does a great job when introducing each chapter. However the book simply dips really deep into the concepts, which is really good for a person that understands the concepts naturally (Not by recently memorizing)...

At the end of the line the book is the best out because it gives great comparisons to the real world, and a thorough explanation of each concept. Plus it includes a video tutor, and PDF version of the book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Worked for me.
Passed my CCENT exam with an 890-something (need 804 out of 1000 to pass), using only this book, so it worked for me. My previous experience is limited to CompTIA Network+ certification and I have no background in Cisco products. Now, for the book - I would recommend it. Very easy to read and well-thought out and written. I did find it funny that some of the screenshots were from many, many years ago so it's obvious the author is re-using material from old versions (but why rewrite something if you don't have to?).There are two CDs included - one in the very front of the book, one in the very back. Don't ask me why they didn't put both together. The first CD was a lot of subnetting (which I didn't need since I previously learned it through Lammle's excellent Network+ teachings). The second CD contains the Boson sim/practice exam software. This software is actually great and I can now see why Boson sells extra study products separately for a much higher price. Included in the Boson CD is about 160 or so practice questions (including a few sims). The software provides you with answers/explanations to many problems and even has a link to that particular part of the book (in PDF form) so you can review what you got wrong. This kind of backfires in a few spots, though, because some of the Boson material isn't covered in the text. This is to be expected when the software is made by a third-party that uses its own materials to create the text. So, you'll get something wrong, open that part of the book to see why you don't remember seeing that particular thing at all, and still not be able to find it because it isn't in the text to begin with. That is a minor aside, and it doesn't detract from the quality of the material, but if you use the software as a practice exam when your studying is done you may get an artificially lower score because it covers some material you haven't studied. And, yes, I know, the real test will have things you haven't studied as well, but in my opinion the practice test should see how much you remember from studying the book, and sometimes it doesn't.The Boson software actually does an excellent job of mimic-ing the look & feel of the actual exam, so you get a good heads up that way.One note for purchasers of used copies - the Boson software includes an activation code that requires you to register with Boson to download the software. Fine for the first purchaser of the book, but the second purchaser may find that he can't activate the software & download his practice exam!In sum, I recommend the book and am using Odom's ICND2 book to study for completing my CCNA track.Ah - one other warning - as of writing this, Amazon sells this book for about $26.You can buy this book combined with the ICND2 book for about $38 from Amazon, so if you are planning on tackling both tests it would be in your financial interest to purchase the two books in the bundled option instead of separately. The link for the bundle is

[...]

**edit** forgot to mention that I didn't like the fact that the book only has about 10 or so practice/review questions for each chapter. Would it have really been that hard to come up with a few more?I also used CBT Nuggets in my studying and would recommend that as a supplement to this book. I listened to it in my car on my 1-hour commute (one way) to work each day.Good luck!

4-0 out of 5 stars Thorough but dry
This book is very thorough but it can be difficult to process if you're not from IT originally. It's a heavy read...

4-0 out of 5 stars Good to go
I got exactly what I asked for with a few other things Ill go and destroy this test.:-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent

5-0 out of 5 stars NP reviews
This book was concise, to the point and covered a lot of very important information. It was helpful and reliable and helped me identify areas that I needed more review in. I would recommend this as an adjunct source.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT REVIEW BOOK!!!!!!!
Great book. I purchased several review books, including the Fitzgerald book and the Amile book, this one was the best by far. I liked the fact that this book gave the "need to know" information and test tips. I passed on the first time and I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but the best out there for sure!
This book has some errors, but compared to Fitzgerald (which is good, but more information than you need and doesn't talk about professional issues at all), it's more accurate of the exam, and tells you what you need to know.Of course, it needs some revision of errors, and it COULD mention more about legal/professional/ethical issues (which is like 50% of the exam by the way!), but they go farther than the other books.

There are also an awesome 500 practice questions in the back!

I just passed the test with a high score, and I attribute it to this book.Leik, you rock!

3-0 out of 5 stars Too many mistakes
This book had lots of helpful info that Fitzgerald did not have. However, I have found at least 10 mistakes in it so far.Incorrect generic/trade name combinations, increase/decrease mix-ups, and outdated treatment advice.Do not use this as your only review book.

4-0 out of 5 stars keeps it simple
I enjoyed the simplicity of this book. I used it with the fitzgerald and it was a great companion. It is great for those who get distracted by lots of details or someone who doesn't have a lot of time to study and just wants to get the down and dirty. I found the exam wasn't too broad anyway. ... Product Description

Linux deployment continues to increase, and so does the demand for qualified and certified Linux system administrators. If you're seeking a job-based certification from the Linux Professional Institute (LPI), this updated guide will help you prepare for the technically challenging LPIC Level 1 Exams 101 and 102.

The third edition of this book is a meticulously researched reference to these exams, written by trainers who work closely with LPI. You'll find an overview of each exam, a summary of the core skills you need, review questions and exercises, as well as a study guide, a practice test, and hints to help you focus.

Major topics include:

  • Critical GNU and Unix commands
  • Linux installation and package management
  • Devices and filesystems
  • Text editing, processing, and printing
  • The X Window System
  • Networking and security
  • Mail transfer agents
  • Email, FTP, and web services

These exams are for junior to mid-level Linux administrators with about two years of practical system administration experience. You should be comfortable with Linux at the command line and capable of performing simple tasks, including system installation and troubleshooting.

Amazon.com Review
You may not have heard of the Linux Professional Institute (LPI) or its professional certifications, but they're becoming an important part of proving professional competence in the Linux operating system. That aside, LPI Linux Certification in a Nutshell is a fantastic introductory Linux book, well suited to introducing a curious newcomer to the environment and bringing an intermediate user up to expert status.

The book is organized around the LPI's published standards for two Level 1 exams (exams 101, which deals with key commands and file-system concepts, and 102, which places more emphasis on hardware, networking, and shell scripting). The organization works well even if you're not specifically preparing for either exam.

LPI Linux Certification in a Nutshell assumes nothing in early chapters, going so far--to cite one example--as to walk readers through the concept of commands with parameters separately from the concept of commands alone. Later, the pace picks up, and strategic advice is substituted (such as how to partition a disk for maximum speed and reliability) for "type-this" instructions.

Throughout, the book makes effective use of O'Reilly's time-tested and remarkably clear format for presenting Unix commands and configuration files. Each chapter concludes with a series of exercises designed to help you discover behaviors on your own, and includes the practice questions you expect in a test-prep aid. --David Wall

Topics covered: The knowledge that's tested on the Linux Professional Institute's exams 101 and 102, which includes everything from basic Linux commands and concepts to installation of the operating system, essential network configuration, and kernel recompilation. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Kindle edition is the 2nd edition
I bought this book thinking it was the 3rd edition for the kindle and it was the 2nd edition they don't have the 3rd out on Kindle yet.It is confusing when you click on the website and they offer a kindle edition but not telling that it is for the 2nd edition which is really out dated.

5-0 out of 5 stars Once stop preparation for Linux administration competence
I have been programming applications under Linux off and on for ten years. But I am getting serious in using Linux for my business as a file and remmote testing server system. I admire Linux for its long term operation reliability and it's versitility, not to speak of its open source documentation. So, I needed to see what would be needed both in terms of administration operations and in terms of best practices. I'm still wondering how to get a drive set partitioned for multi-booting, but this book answers most of the administration questions and gives me practice tests for certification.

After reading( and skimming ) this book in one day, I have the knowledge to install the OS, patch the kernel, set up several types of servers, and apply system security and networking services.

This is exactly the kind of support that I'm seeking for my knowledge base, and I suspect that you are too. I wish to commend the author for being so comprehensive in his coverage and letting us know how to prepare to run our own systems so well. The Linux environment has been something of a closed environment to those who can't afford an expensive seminar or training school until recently. This book helps to open up the Linux world to the rest of us. I hope you get as much out of this book as I did. And, by the way, if you are only concerned in passing the certification test, it is a very good training source for that as well.

2-0 out of 5 stars New version is only for 101 & 102
I had the 2nd version, released 2006 awesome included all 6 tests. New release should not be marked 3rd edition as its a new book and contains only 1/3 or the material that the first 2 editions had. After using Michael Jang's book for Level 1 and passing I purchased this book only to find out it contained only level 1. I ASSUMED 3rd edition meant updated and rearranged topics to reflect the new layout. I was very disappointed. After receiving I did reread the description and does say it has everything you need to pass level 1. I used Michael Jang's book for level 1 as it was updated while I was testing. I think its deceptive to say 3rd edition when you've removed 2/3rds of the material. At what don't does it become a new book vs. next edition. Does that mean LPIC-2 will be the 4th edition? Ugh, can't find any study material for level 2. Am looking for 2nd edition and will use LPI.org level 2 objectives and jump around the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The ultimate LPIC review Book
For someone needing to jump into the linux world, and especially needing to take certification tests, this is hands down the best book available. It has everything you'd ever need to be a System Administrator, or just a all around linux guru. This is a book that will surely never leave my side!

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT ORDER - 2006 EDITION OUT OF DATE
DO NOT BUY THIS. This is the 2006 Edition, currently the newest, but it is very much out of date. This is not the book to order for LPI Linux Certification. It seems even though it was last updated in 2006, it contains basically the same information as the even older edition. Just to give you an idea on how old the information is, it spends a fair amount of pages discussing ISA devices. I haven't even seen an ISA card in ten years. I wasted a lot of money ordering this book, I hope you don't make the same mistake. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars I passed the test...
The book was a good collection of test questions. However, it did not give explaination to the correct answer, and somw of the question are repeats. If I could use the book over again, I would have done the review test on the CD first--then review the sections in the book. The questions were also harder than the actual exam. When I talked with professionals at the ANCC, they said if you are getting >60% on the exams in the book, you will do fine.Happy studying!

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
This book is seriously overpriced and very poorly written. Yes, the quetions are hard and do challenge you to think. But the reason they are hard is because they are very poorly written. I found several mistakes in her answers section, and many questions were written with important information left out that would never occur on the actual exam. Some of her explanations in fact were just plain wrong. My husband is a physician, and he agreed that this book is not accurately written to reflect the actual information needed for the ACNP exam. When I took my exam, there was not a single question on it that reflected anything I learned from this book. I would never use this book again. If you want an awesome review for the boards, take the Barkley & Associates class, or buy the CDs with his notebook. He is thorough, concise, and extremely intelligent and well spoken. Dr. Barkley is an excellent teacher, and is dead-on when it comes to details you must know to pass boards. I had question after question on my boards that came straight from information that Dr. Barkley teaches in his class. I passed my boards thanks to Dr. Barkley, not Barbara Todd!!

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a tough ACNP exam review book
I heard a lot of feedback from my classmates and professors about the toughness of this book. I used it for my ACNP exam preparation, and without a doubt, it is a tough book. However, this book make me realize the weakness areas of my knowledge base, so that I can focus on those area during the exam preapration. I feel more comfortable to take the exam after I utilized this book. I am so glad I passed my exam at the first time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Resource for Studying for the Certification Exam.
I've used this book twice as a study aid for the certification exam. I thought it was very useful the first time I took the test.

I now had to re-certify by exam (5 years later) and decided to use this book (and the CD) as my primary resource, and boy did that strategy pay off. The language (unlike other resources I used) is similar to that used on the exam, and the random mix of questions was also similar, so I was able to identify my areas of weakness.

It helps to take sample exams repeatedly to build up the mental stamina required for the actual test.

All in all, I would highly recommend this book for potential certification exam candidates.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must-have for the ACNP candidate
This review book reminds me of the NCLEX reviews. It is concise, divides the questions into the key content areas and provides answers with the rationale.

Of particular help is the second chapter "Test-taking skills and designing your study plan".Here the authors give you seven strategies for test-taking.Included are the points "Understanding and analyzing the anatomy of a test question" and the ever helpful "Selecting the best answer when you do not know the answer".There is an analysis of learning styles and an example schedule for preparation.

This review has been very helpful in lowering my test anxiety while in school.Too bad Amazon won't package it with Gawlinski and Hamwi at a reduced price ;-) ;-)This one really complements G&H.I can't give it 5 stars until I take the certification exam! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Study Aid
I was extremely disappointed by what I received for the price. It is photo copies of pages that looks like somebody had bound at a Kinkos. The picture makes it look like a bound published book.It isn't.Photocopied pages for $60.Very Very Disappointed

4-0 out of 5 stars Worh it!
I bought this study guide to practice for my PHR test.I also have the SHRM learning system. This guide has great questions.I believe in getting as much practice as you can from different sources.I would recommend this guide to anyone practicing for their certification. The only thing I don't like about this guide is that the answers are right under the questions.I have to get something to cover up the answers so I don't get distracted and look at the answers before I read the question.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worked for me
I don't recommend you use only one resource to study. I used multiple sets of practice questions, you can get a free sample test from the certification institute (try that one and see how you do). I think the key for me was going through questions like this because it built my confidence and stamina so I was better prepared for the actual test. The questions included here are not exact to the actual exam (I have looked at various sources and none are word for word exact). When I looked at the cost of not passing the first time and compared it to the cost of this program, it was well worth it. Studied and everything worked out great. ... Read more

Product Description
Behavior analysis, a rapidly growing profession, began with the use and application of conditioning and learning techniques to modify the behavior of children or adults presenting severe management problems, often because of developmental disabilities. Now behavior analysts work in a variety of settings, from clinics and schools to workplaces. Especially since their practice often involves aversive stimuli or punishment, they confront many special ethical challenges. Recently, the Behavior Analysis Certification Board codified a set of ten fundamental ethical guidelines to be followed by all behavior analysts and understood by all students and trainees seeking certification. This book shows readers how to follow the BACB guidelines in action. The authors first describe core ethical principles and then explain each guideline in detail, in easily comprehensible, everyday language. The text is richly illuminated by more than a hundred vivid case scenarios about which the authors pose, and later answer questions for readers. Useful appendices include the BACB Guidelines, an index to them, practice scenarios, and suggested further reading. Practitioners, instructors, supervisors, students and trainees alike will welcome this invaluable new aid to professional development. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy Reading
reading for classes can be boring, but this book makes it fairly clear cut. It has great examples and scenarios which are typically what you find in real life situations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ethics for ABA's... a must!
This is a good book and a must have for Behavior Analysts. My ONLY complaint is the cover that needs updating. It is one of the worst I've seen and portrays us as incredibly washed out and boring individuals - ha!The book itself is good - great and badly needed information - the gold standard.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great ethics book!
I learned a lot from this book with lots of practical application. I recommend it to anyone interested in ABA. ... Read more
