4-0 out of 5 stars Good story, not the best writing
I'll be honest, I almost stopped reading after two chapters because I didn't care of the style of writing. To be honest, I thought that maybe this was one of the first books ever written by the author (I was not familiar with her work and was given this book as a gift). Ultimately, I decided to finish reading the story and I'm glad I did because the story is fun and the interwining of relationships in the book is interesting.I love books set in Nantucket and place like it, they are perfect for the light, fun breaks in reading and perfect for a weekend trip in the summer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good story, not the best writing
I'll be honest, after reading the first couple chapters I was not hooked.I was not impressed with her style of writing at all and almost just put the book down.(To be frank, I thought maybe this was the first book the author had ever written because I was not familiar with her work.I had been given the book as a present) Ultimately I decided to finsih it (probably because I'm OCD :o) ) and was glad that I did because I ended up enjoying the intertwining story lines of the people who stayed at The Beach House. I chose 4 Stars "I like it" because that's just it - I liked it, no love, but like. The characters were fun and interesting enouh to keep me reading even without the best writing techniques.I liked that there were little surprises I didn't see coming - normally with light fiction I figure the story out a third of the way through. Thanks for the light, fun book.

3-0 out of 5 stars If you are looking for light and uplifting you won't find it here
While I don't believe this was poorly written, I will say that the multiple affairs that occur actually turned my stomach.I listened to the audio version of this story, and by chapter 4 there had been multiple affairs, and one character was "coming to grips with being gay" after years of marriage. That was the most infuriating, since the character explains he knew he was gay all along but tried to trudge along, all the while being repulsed by his wife.

I didn't cheer for him.Characters I liked who had work affairs because "they couldn't help themselves" instantly turned into individuals I couldn't sympathize with in the least, even as their lives continued to fall apart.

Perhaps Green was trying to paint more ambivalence into the classic "Protagonist/Antagonist" roles of a novel. And while I realize that we each play these different roles in real life, in a novel, too much ambivalence, too much selfishness just makes us not care. But what's worse about these characters is that they appear to be anguished over their selfish choices, but feel the best way to deal with their feelings is to rationalize, forge ahead, and hope they don't get caught in their lies.

Should we really be hoping that every character in a story DOESN'T get what they want?

2-0 out of 5 stars Glad I didn't spend money on it.....
I checked this book out from the library after debating whether or not to buy it.Apparently, I judge books by their covers, and the cover was pretty.... yet I found it to be on the bargain table at every bookstore so I thought better than to purchase it and decided to venture down to the library to check it out.

The story was weak - the characters were ridiculous and completely unrealistic.I didn't like any of them.I prefer when stories are told from a first person perspective as it lets you get into one character's head and easily relate to them and what they're thinking. This story is told from a third person perspective and you seem to get into every characters' head - but not enough to actually understand any of them or feel compassionate towards them.Plus, it's absurd to think you would be able to know what each character in a book is thinking - and it takes away some of the fun.

The story seemed to draaaaaaaaaaag on.I felt compelled to finish just because I had already spent 300+ pages reading all this dribble and needed closure just for my own peace of mind.

The thing about good chick lit is that it's like a guilty pleasure.... it's fun and entertaining, without causing you to think too much. This wasn't fun or entertaining - it was downright dumb in some parts and hardly belivable.I didn't HATE the book, but it's going to be hard for me to think about trying another Jane Green novel after this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars my favorite book this year!
I have read a ton of amazing books this year...from "the penny tree", to "on mystic lake", etc....and I think that the Beach House just might be in my top 5, if not my favorite. You fall in love with every character, you laugh a bit, tear up a bit, and just want to GO TO NANTUCKET and experience the atmosphere the author describes in the book. You want to be one of the characters! My only sadness is that its over now, and there's no sequel! ... Product Description
Instead of a career, most CNAs are offered a locked-in, no-growth job which almost ensures that they will eventually move on to something else. A career ladder program, on the other hand, offers them a sense of pride and feeling of professionalism in their position. If your facility invests the time and energy, this program will help you reduce your facility's CNA turnover, save you money, and build a more loyal staff. ... Read more

From the supplier: CNA considers its merger with Continental, consummated in mid 1995, a success, but the work of consolidating the two companies is not nearly complete. CNA chief executive Dennis H. Chookaszian noted that the company has not yet decided on names for some of its units and has not yet transferred many of its policies to different brand names. Staff cuts have not yet been completed, either.

Product Description
This book, Practicing CNA in Nursing Homes, is a gun in between CNAs' hands. Many of them have great experiences and provide star service in nursing homes, and reach the residents' satisfaction by using standard precautions and applying the CNAs skills properly. However, most of them lackthe skills and use them improperly. They need some help, not only regarding skills, but also regarding handling nosocomial infections and raising customer satisfaction This book also aims toward an ambitious objective, which is being a primary source of research for those who areinterested in nursing homes in the United States. Nursing homes exist everywhere in the world, but we find that the level of function here is different. Therefore, this book is going to describe life inside the nursing homes in this country. It's a mixture of micro-socio-pathological descriptions that can resuscitate a desire to better understand this reality, which has remained so long unknown, and that needs to be unveiled.Acene Fleurmons was born in Artibonite, Haiti in 1959. His father is Anoucet Fleurmons and his mother is Carmen; two farmers who raised eight children. Acene is the fifth child who grew up in God's grace and went to school in Port-au-Prince, where he earned a certificate in philosophy atthe Higher Teacher Training School in 1990, and in sociology at the Humanities School in 1993.Acene came to Miami in 1997 and went to Florida International University (FIU). There he received a Bachelor of Social Work in 2004. After that, Acene continued studying with Bellevue University and earned 27 credits in Healthcare Management and Administration of Nursing (master's program). This study is in progress. Moreover, Acene earned his doctorate degree in Christian Counseling from the Ministry International Institute in 2005. ... Read more
