Might have been useful once...
The book is fundamentally sound for a DSP class but the disk is worthless - NT won't even read it, much less run the software. If a prof requires this book, ask them to find a newer one.

This book sucks!!!!!!
Don't waste your time or money on this worthless piece of junk. The so-called algorithms are written to run under DOS and will not run under Windows 95 ,NT,98, without throwing errors. If you can find a fossilizedcomputer somewhere, maybe you deserve this mess!!! (Normally I wouldn'teven give this one star, but negative numbers aren't possible.) ... Read more

This book is a uniquely practical DSP text which places the emphasis on understanding the principles and applications of DSP with a minimum of mathematics. In one volume, it covers a broad area of digital signal processing systems such as A/D and D/A converters, adaptive filters, spectral estimation, neural networks, Kalman filters, fuzzy logic, data compression, error correction and DSP programming. Many courses will find that this book will replace several texts currently in use.

The level is ideal for introductory university modules, and similar courses such as HNC/D. As DSP has come to be studied at a lower academic level over recent years this text meets a genuine need. It is also suitable for use on industrial training courses and ideal as a reference text for professionals.

The online description states "Ideal for introductory university modules", but the preface of the book (which is not included in the pages that are provided for online viewing) states "This book is not a basic signal processing textbook... it is assumed you have a good knowledge of sampling, difference equations, z-transforms, FIR and IIR filters, FFT, etc."I was looking for something more basic so I sent it back. ... I highly recommend this book for the variety of DSP-related applications it covers in the field of wireless communications. The book is very well structured and discusses very well the implementations choices engineers are faced with. 'Why are there all these different processor architectures and what do they all mean? Which processor will I use? How should I choose it?'Given the task of selecting an architecture or design approach, both engineers and managers require a knowledge of the whole system and an explanation of the design tradeoffs and their effects. Section 1 provides a primer and history of the three basic microprocessor architectures. Section 2 describes the ways in which the architectures react with the system.
