THE AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS PROGRAM at Fort Valley State University is designed to prepare persons for professional positions in sales, service, merchandising, management, analytical and statistical work with private and public agricultural and agriculturally related business and agencies. It is also designed to prepare students for additional study in graduate and professional schools. EMPLOYMENT OF ECONOMISTS is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations, according to estimates by the U. S. Department of Labor. It is projected that agribusiness firms will continue to provide the largest number of employment opportunities. Employment of agricultural economists in state and local government agencies is expected to increase as a result of growing responsibilities of local governments in areas such as rural development, the environment and natural resources. Employment in the federal government is expected to rise slowly in line with the rate of growth projected for the federal work force. ONE HUNDRED TWENTY CREDIT HOURS are required to complete the program, of which 34 semester hours are in agricultural economics. These courses include agricultural marketing, farm management, agricultural finance and records, land economics, production economics, agricultural policy, natural resources economics and others. Support courses in principles of economics, English, mathematics, social studies, accounting and other business courses are also required. Graduates with a B. S. Degree in Agricultural Economics who take positions with a federal agency at GS-7 to GS-9 levels can expect to earn a starting salaries of $26,998 to $33,026.

academic regulations awards career links program advisors ... What can I study? quicklinks Gardenline AgAdventures camps Drought Info Online SaskInteractive Scholarships Work Experience Economics studies how societies use available resources to meet the needs of people. As humanity's single largest use of the earth's resources, agriculture is a major driving force in the world's economy. Agricultural economics examines the use of agricultural resources to meet the needs of people in this and future generations. It does this by looking at how the complex industry tied to these resources works and how it could work better. If you have an interest in social studies, in the environment, in business, in finance, in international relations, in trade policy, in scientific ethics, in government, in agriculture or in the life sciences, you may be an agricultural economist waiting to happen. The C of A offers a four-year undergraduate degree (B.S.A.)
