Courrier Rosa Bonheur ( N ée le 16 mai au 29 de la rue Saint-Jean à SAINT-SEURIN (aujourd'hui, 55 rue Duranteau à Bordeaux), Marie Rosalie, dite : Rosa est l’aînée de Raymond Bonheur et de Sophie Marquis . Son père était peintre et sera d’ailleurs son seul professeur (Les écoles d'art étaient fermées aux filles de cette époque) . Sa grand-mère arriva au domaine de Quinsac en 1799 en tant que nourrice, avec Sophie née à Altona en 1797 (près de Hambourg), de père inconnu Elle fut adoptée par Jean-Baptiste Dublan de Lahet , commerçant bordelais. Le mystère de ses origines, loin d’être un handicap, fit rêver Rosa que sa mère était de sang royal Grâce à son tuteur, plutôt fortuné, sa mère avait bénéficié d’une excellente éducation; elle eut un maître à danser, à chanter, de musique et plus tard, un professeur de dessin, très beau garçon dont elle ne tarda pas à tomber amoureuse : Raymond Bonheur C'est un homme bon, rêveur, modeste, issu d'une famille de cuisiniers toulousains. Monsieur Dublan rêvait d’un meilleur parti pour sa pupille, mais il finit par autoriser cette union.

" Die lebendige Kom positionsskizze wird von wogenden Farbmassen herangeführter brauner, schwarzer und weißer Pferde beherrscht, die wie durchflochten sind von roten Bändern, rotem Zaumzeug, roten Satteldeckenstreifen und Bordüren. Darüber die geballten Massen weißer Wolken als Echo auf die Pferdeleiber. Gezeigt ist der Pferdemarkt in Paris, im Hintergrund erkennt man die Kirche La Salpetriere.Von diesem weltbekannten Bild gibt es zwei weitere Versionen in annähernd gleicher Proportion, doch in unterschiedlichen Größen". ( C.Steckner 1992) Diese früheste, wahrscheinlich eigenhändige und ursprüngliche Fassung des "Pferdemarkts, dürfte wohl als Modell für die beiden großen Fassungen (New York und London) anzusprechen sein. Das Gemälde stammt aus dem Nachlaß der Malerfürstin Vilma Princess Lwoff-Parlaghy, New York. Ludwig Nissen ersteigerte das bedeutende Gemälde nach ihrem Tode 1924 für seine Kunstsammlung in Husum. 2. "The lively sketch of the composition is ruled by the waving masses of colour of brown, black and white horses, which are led into sight. They seem to be mixed up with red ribbons, red bridles, edgings and red stripes on the saddle-clothes. On top of this the clenched mass of white clouds as an echo on the bodies of the horses. Shown is the Horse Fair in Paris, in the background you can see the dome La Salpetriere. There are two versions of this world-famous painting, they are almost equal in their proportions, but different in their size." (C. Steckner, 1992) This earliest painting, presumably the original version which was made by her own hand, might be the model for the great paintings in New York and London. The "Horse Fair" belonged to the "Painting Princess" Vilma Princess Lwoff-Parlaghy, New York. Ludwig Nissen bought this important painting 1924 from Princess Lwoff-Parlaghy`s heritage auction for his collection of arts in Husum.

She was of Jewish origin. Jacques Wiener, the Belgian medallist, a native of Venloo, says that he and Raymond Bonheur, Rosa’s father, used to attend synagogue in that town; while another authority asserts that Rosa used to be known in common parlance by the name of Rosa Mazeltov (a Hebrew term for “good luck,” Gallic~ Bonheur). She was the eldest of four children, all of whom were artists—Auguste (1824—1884) painted animals and landscape; Juliette (1830—1891) was “honourably mentioned” at the exhibition of 1855; Isidore, born in 1827, was a sculptor of animals.
