The timeless meditations which accompany the illustrations are intended to lead the reader into a contemplation of the mysteries of the Rosary that are portrayed and, from there, into a deeper union with the Lord. The prayer intentions were originally formulated by that great Marian apostle, St. Louis Grignion de Montfort, and were adapted here as an aid to concentrating on the mystery being prayed. Of the Rosary Pope John XXIII said that in reciting it, "A poetic atmosphere which places before our eyes the sweet figure of the Madonna is created, the mysteries of the life of our Lord are made familiar to all, and the challenges of Jesus with respect to our life are caused to be intensely felt."
Reviews
Through the Rosary with Fra Angelico is an outstanding little art booklet which illustrates each mystery of the Rosary with a detail from some work of Fra Angelico. They are done in vibrant color which really does them justice. Included in the booklet is a brief history of the Rosary, an explanation of how to say it, and, for each mystery, biblical citations and prayer intentions which come from the work of St. Louis Grignion de Montfort. This little beauty was put together by Domenico Marcucci. The cost is a mere $2.95."

T he name Fra Angelico was given to the painter because of the great religious devotion that characterized his work, about which it was said that it seemed made by angels. He was a Dominican monk who lived at the beginning of the Renaissance in Florence. His style is very elegant, very devout and even mystic. His work, such as this one, is luminous and rich in color, with figures of an idealized beauty. The Annunciation is the principal scene of this large upper panel, shared with the Banishment of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Paradise; this is why the temple occupied by the Virgin and the Archangel Gabriel appears to be in natural setting. Below this double scene is a frieze of small tales relating the life of the Virgin, from the time of her Betrothal to the Assumption, including the Visitation, the Adoration of the Magi and the Purification at the Temple. The five paintings are all graced with small jewels. Continue Villanueva Building Visit Home Page Credits

londonfoodfilmfiesta home ANGELICO, Fra (b. cca. 1400, Vicchio nell Mugello, d. 1455, Roma)/ ARTISTS BEFORE 1650 MAIN ART original lff site From 1449 to 1452 Angelico was prior of his convent in Fiesole. He died in the Dominican convent in Rome on March 18, 1455. Angelico combined the influence of the elegantly decorative Gothic style of Gentile da Fabriano with the more realistic style of such Renaissance masters as the painter Masaccio and the sculptors Donatello and Ghiberti, all of whom worked in Florence. Angelico was also aware of the theories of perspective proposed by Leon Battista Alberti. Angelico's representation of devout facial expressions and his use of color to heighten emotion are particularly effective. His skill in creating monumental figures, representing motion, and suggesting deep space through the use of linear perspective, especially in the Roman frescoes, mark him as one of the foremost painters of the Renaissance. contac t film and food music and food Fra Angelico Great Masters Box Set VHS ... food and poverty

Didi-Huberman, Georges Fra Angelico Dissemblance and Figuration . Translated by Jane Marie Todd. xvi, 274 p., 22 color plates, 69 halftones. 8-1/2 x 11 1995 Cloth $70.00sp 0-226-14813-0 Fall 1995 The traditional story of Renaissance painting is one of inexorable progress toward the exact representation of the real and visible. Georges Didi-Huberman disrupts this story with a new lookand a new way of lookingat the fifteenth-century painter Fra Angelico. In doing so, he alters our understanding of both early Renaissance art and the processes of art history. A Florentine painter who took Dominican vows, Fra Angelico (1400-1455) approached his work as a largely theological project. For him, the problems of representing the unrepresentable, of portraying the divine and the spiritual, mitigated the more secular breakthroughs in imitative technique. Didi-Huberman explores Fra Angelico's solutions to these problemshis use of color to signal approaching visibility, of marble to recall Christ's tomb, of paint drippings to simulate (or stimulate) holy anointing. He shows how the painter employed emptiness, visual transformation, and displacement to give form to the mystery of faith. In the work of Fra Angelico, an alternate strain of Renaissance painting emerges to challenge rather than reinforce verisimilitude. Didi-Huberman traces this disruptive impulse through theological writings and iconographic evidence and identifies a widespread tradition in Renaissance art that ranges from Giotto's break with Byzantine image-making well into the sixteenth century. He reveals how the techniques that served this ultimately religious impulse may have anticipated the more abstract characteristics of modern art, such as color fields, paint spatterings, and the absence of color.

View Art Work Guido di Pietro (1387-1455), also known as Fra Angelico (Angelic) or Beato (Blessed) Angelico, was a devoted friar as well as painter. He was given his nickname because of the many religious themes he was known to have painted. He was born in Vicchio, Tuscany and entered a Dominican convent at the age of 18. In 1425, he became friar Giovanni da Fiesole. During his stay at the convent, he created illuminated religious books and painted altarpieces. His artwork was loved because its colors were pure and uncomplicated and any light in his paintings were portrayed with the most delicacy. In 1437, he moved to the Convent of San Marco. There he was appointed by Cosimo de' Medici to decorate the interior of the convent. He made over 50 frescoes in the process. The Pope attended the inaguration of the convent, and at that instance, Fra Angelico became famous. Among his most celebrated works are Crucifiction and Last Judgement . Other accomplishments besides his art work included inheriting Niccolina Chapel and serving as Prior of the Convent San Dominico at Fiesole. Fra Angelico is perhaps one of the most loved artists of the Renaissance. He would often say that whoever practised art needed a quiet life and freedom from care, and that he who occupied himself with the things of Christ ought always to be with Christ.

Den salige fra angelico (Johannes av Fiesole) (~14001455). Navigasjon. Minnedag18. februar. Som ung munk arbeidet fra angelico med å illuminere manuskripter.
http://www.katolsk.no/biografi/ffiesole.htm
