Bio: William Holman Hunt William Holman Hunt was an English painter who, together with Dante Gabriel Rossetti and John Everett Millais, was a founder in 1848 of the Pre-Raphaelites. In all of his works, many of which are biblical scenes, he strove for Pre-Raphaelite goals of serious moral content, direct study from nature, and historical authenticity. His paintings—of which perhaps the two best known are Finding of Christ in the Temple (1854, City Museum, Birmingham, England) and Scapegoat (1854, Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight, England)—are minutely detailed and painted in a style characterized by crowded composition and bright, relatively crude colors. FICHA Nacionalidad: Gran Bretaña Londres (1827) - Londres (1910) Estilo: Pre-Rafaelitas Hijo del director de unos almacenes, trabajó durante una temporada como administrativo pero en 1844 ingresó en la escuela de la Royal Academy donde se relacionó con Millais y Rossetti . Los tres serán los promotores de la fundación de la Hermandad de los Prerrafaelitas en 1848. Su interés por la fidelidad hacia la naturaleza le llevará a utilizar como fondo de sus obras paisajes cargados de realismo aunque la temática -generalmente inspirada en asuntos literarios- estuviera cargada de simbolismo. Debido a una experiencia mística, emprendió un viaje a Palestina con el objetivo de tomar dibujos y bocetos para pintar escenas bíblicas con el paisaje auténtico, convirtiéndose en el pintor de asuntos religiosos más importante de su tiempo. También se interesó por los paisajes, retratos, escenas de la vida contemporánea. La fama le llegó con La luz del mundo, obra pintada con la ayuda de sus colaboradores debido a la pérdida de visión del maestro, cuya réplica fue exhibida por todas las colonias británicas. His paintings are often crude in color and laborious in technique, but are completely sincere in their devotion to Pre-Raphaelite principles. In 1854 he visited Palestine in order to have authentic material for his religious paintings. Among his best-known works are The Light of the World (Oxford Univ.) and The Triumph of the Innocents (Liverpool Gall.).
