Matta Echaurren, Roberto (1911) Obras El día es un atentado Biografía Sus estudios secundarios los realiza con los jesuitas marianos del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús y de María, continúa estudios superiores en la Escuela de Arquitectura de la Universidad Católica de Chile. 1933 Emigra a Europa, en París trabaja en el taller de Le Corbusier, durante su estadía Gabriela Mistral lo invita a pasar una temporada en Lisboa. 1936 Viaja a Londres, donde tiene la oportunidad de compartir con Gropius y Moholy Nagy. 1937 Regresa a París para participar en "La Exposición Internacional", trabajando en el pabellón español, allí comparte con Magritte, Picasso y Miró; por intermedio de García Lorca y de Dalí conoce a André Bretón y se incorpora al grupo surrealista. 1938 Conoce a Marcel Duchamp con quien establecerá una permanente amistad. Mientras reside en París vive con Pablo Neruda en La Roche-Guyon, Participa en la exposición Internacional de Surrealismo, que se celebra en la Galería Breaux-Arts de París. 1939 Se inició la Segunda Guerra Mundial, junto con Duchamp y Tanguy deciden abandonar Europa y establecerse en Nueva York, allí ejerce una enorme influencia en los pintores jóvenes que darían vida al fenómeno de la pintura norteamericana de los í50.

He graduated in 1931 from the College of the Sacred Heart and at the Catholic University with a degree in architecture. In 1936 he went to Paris and found employment with famous Swiss-born architect Le Corbusier. During this period, he met many poets and other artists including Salvador Dali. In 1938, just before the outbreak of the second world war in Europe, Roberto Matta moved to New York where he joined the Surrealist Group and participated in the International Surrealist Exhibition in Paris. Roberto Matta parted from the Surrealist group and returned to Europe in 1948, (he was re-integrated in 1959) settling first in Rome and then in Paris, where today he is alive and well and making art. He played a central role in the evolution of both European Surrealism and American Abstract Expressionism. Working in a fluid, improvisational style, Matta created a body of work which erases the distinction between inner and outer space. Roberto Matta (1911-2002) Santiago, Chile 1943-The Bachelors Twenty Years After 1946-A Grave Situation 1955-To Give Painless Light Biografía: Pintor nacido en Chile cuyas obras de inspiración surrealista y metafísica ilustran un mundo onírico de la civilización tecnológica moderna. Se formó como arquitecto en Santiago de Chile y con Le Corbusier en París entre 1934 y 1935, donde se hizo amigo del pintor Marcel Duchamp. Al estallar la II Guerra Mundial se trasladó a Estados Unidos. De 1939 a 1948 Matta vivió en Nueva York, donde conoció a André Breton, Max Ernst, Yves Tanguy y André Masson. Matta ha ejercido una influencia decisiva en la obra de Arshile Gorky y en la creación del expresionismo abstracto. Sus obras están pobladas de extraños autómatas híbridos y de criaturas a modo de insectos, como en Eros precipitado (1944, Museo de Arte Moderno, Nueva York). Otras obras significativas son La tierra es un hombre (1941), La cuestión Djamila (1962) y Sobre el estado de la unión (1965). He moved to Paris in 1936 an worked as an architect for Le Corbusier and Gropius. He met Dali and Breton and the latter bought some of his drawings. In 1938 he joined the surrealist movement and he participated in the International Surrealist Exhibition in Paris. In 1940 he went to New York and he worked togheter with Max Ernst and Peggy Guggenheim's Art of the Century gallery. He alsso worked with his friends Pollock and Gorky. MANFREDI, ALBERTO MEYER-BASEL, CARL THEODOR MONK, WILLIAM Alberto Manfredi - Click here to view new works. Italian, 1930 - 2001 Manfredi was born in Reggio Emilia and after graduating at the University of Bologna was for many years professor of etching at the Fine Arts Academy in Florence. He was one of the most respected and refined painters and print-makers in Italy. One of his friends was Giorgio Morandi and Manfredi made many portraits of him. He moved also in literary circles and as a result illustrated over a hundred literary works and livres d’artiste . He held many exhibitions of his paintings which received critical acclaim (the critic Maccari wrote 'Manfredi is one of the very few painters who still knows how to draw'. As a result of his fine draughtsmanship he became a very accomplished printmaker of etchings, drypoints and linocuts, with a wonderful sense of the use of colour. His subjects include portraits, landscapes, animals and female figures and a number of catalogues have been published by leading galleries in which he exhibited, in Italy and France. Many of his prints were not made as commercial editions, but were for his own joy in the art and printed in editions of 10 to 15 impressions
