Claude Monet
Birth of Claude Monet on November 14 in Paris.
The family moves to Le Havre where Monet develops a reputation for the caricatures he loves to draw.
Claude Monet meets Eugène Boudin at Le Havre who plays a very important role in the development of his technique. Boudin encourages him to paint outdoors.
Monet leaves for Paris and enters the 'Académie Suisse' where he probably meets Pissaro.
Monet joins the studio of Charles Gleyre, a Swiss painter who lives in Paris. The studio attracts a large number of talented artists; he meets Bazille, Lepic, Renoir , Sisley.
Monet discovers Manet's paintings at Martinet's where his work is exhibited, and paints outdoors with Bazille in the forest of Fontainebleau.
Monet is visiting Boudin at Honfleur. He finds himself at the St-Siméon farm with Bazille and Jongkind. He meets with first admirer, Gaudibert.
Camille Doncieux, his future wife and Bazille pose for his " Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe ". This canvas was modified following the advice of Courbet. He is not satisfied with his work and renounces to exhibit it at the Salon.
Monet is at Sainte-Adresse when his first-born child Jean is born in Paris. He interrupts the outdoors work due to eyesight troubles.

BEGINNINGS, 16" x 20", Oil on canvas (1997)
"A streak of light hits the water from afar, as lilies continue to surround a clear pond. A crowd cheers as we enter a new beginning. A painting dedicated to my wedding."
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in 1969. Raqs is the youngest in the family of five children. She graduated in 1991 at the College of the Holy Spirit (Manila) with a degree of Fine Arts major in Advertising. In the same year, she already gained international exposure when she sold handpainted shirts during the Southeast Asian Games. "MADRUGADA Artists". Being pioneer of the group, Raqs was able to exhibit her early paintings at the City Gallery in 1993 & 1995. During this time she also attended workshops at the Ayala Museum. Madrugada, a tradition in Spain, is a time Spaniards call their own, a time to be themselves, to live their lives as they wish. By adopting this Spanish custom, Raqs developed her skills thru the use of various mediums such as soft pastel, gouache, acrylic and oil paint. In October of 1999, Raqs opened her first one-woman show entitled "Incidental Flowers". An exhibit of 25 paintings from Raqs' collection depicting her love for flowers in nature and still life. Rendered in soft pastel and acrylic with brisk strokes of blue, yellow and green, the Monet- and Van Gogh-inspired paintings create a vivid impression of country life, evoking a keen appreciation for the simple and the ordinary.

"Soleil Levant" by Caude Monet

I'll tell you how the sun rose,
A ribbon at a time.
The steeples swam in amethyst,
The news like squirrels ran.
The hills untied their bonnets,
The bobolinks begun.
Then I said softly to myself,
"That must have been the sun!" But how he set, I know not.
There seemed a purple stile Which little yellow boys and girls Were climbing all the while Till when they reached the other side, A dominie in gray Put gently up the evening bars, And led the flock away. by the President and Fellows of Harvard College, Harvard University Press. 60. Monet In Chicago
claude monet 18401926. A Review by Mark Harden This is a disturbing canvas, expressing deep conflicts in the relationship of claude and Camille monet.
    http://www.glyphs.com/art/monet/
    Claude Monet: 1840-1926
A Review by Mark Harden The Art Institute of Chicago recently closed the curtain on one of the most successful art exhibits of all time. "Claude Monet: 1840-1926" was the largest and most comprehensive exhibition ever devoted to the paintings of the leader of the Impressionists. One hundred fifty-nine works from around the world were brought together for this once-in-a-lifetime show. The attendance was unparalleled. During its run from July 22 to November 26, 1995, advance admissions were completely sold out, leading to the surreal spectacle of tickets for an art exhibit being scalped as if it were the Super Bowl. The show was an aesthetic as well as a popular success, with the selection of paintings offering the finest examples of Monet's work from every period of his career. For the many art enthusiasts who were unable to attend the show, Glyphs presents a selection of eight important works, with commentary. We would like to express our appreciation to the Art Institute of Chicago for providing slides for our digital reproduction. "Haystacks at Chailly at Sunrise", 1865
