The stately architecture which abounds this historic and venerable part of the city had an early and profound effect on the artist, as is in evidence in his paintings' portrayal of inner city life.. In his formative years, Morris studied at L'Ecole des Beaux Arts (Montreal) under one of the renowned "Group of Seven" Canadian artists Arthur Lismer. In secondary school in Montreal he was greatly influenced by the famous Canadian artist Anne Douglas Savage. Morris later went on to a notable and longstanding career as a professional Architect and practiced for many years. Having combined his own feelings of the inner city with interpretations of today's and yesteryear's nostalgia he has accomplished a unique style which is evident in his paintings. Morris' paintings are a blend of impressionism and realism. His work reveals a keen insight into the elements of architecture and life's daily place within its context. They reveal scenes of Canadian and American cities embracing both pastoral and bustling city urban environment. William Morris (1834-1896) Page from The Glittering Plain Famous as the founder of the Arts and Crafts Movement . He was born in Walthamstow, then a village, and moved to a grand residence there called Water House at the age of 14 - this has since become the William Morris Gallery . He studied at Oxford with the intention of becoming a clergyman, but while there he met Edward Coley Burne-Jones , also studying for the church, and they both began to turn towards art. They were persuaded by Rossetti to give up the studies and become artists. Morris did a year in architectural practice of G. E. Street , and then turned to painting. However, he soon found that his metier was design. The cooperative attempt to decorate his new house (the Red House, built by Philip Webb ) at Bexleyheath, south east of London, lead to the setting up of the firm Morris, Marshall, Faulkner and Co. The partners were Morris, Burne-Jones, Rossetti Ford Madox Brown Philip Webb , Charles Faulkner, and Peter Paul Marshall, a surveyor. The firm was set up as a 'company of Fine Art Workmen', designing and producing (or at least supervising the production of) furniture, wallpaper, murals, tapestrywork, stained glass windows, metalwork, tapestries, and smaller works such as tiles and embroidery. It started in 8 Lion Square, London, where there was sufficient space for workshops, showrooms, and a kiln in the basement for tile production. The firm later became simply Morris and Co. when Morris - always blessed with a private income - bought out the other partners.

Whenever the Bronco appeared overhead, an air strike was certain to follow. Although the glassed-in cabin could become uncomfortably warm, it provided splendid visibility. The two-man crew had armor protection and could use machine guns and bombs to attack, as well as rockets to mark targets for fighter bombers. This versatility enabled the plane to fly armed reconnaissance missions, in addition to serving as vehicle for forward air controllers. 1Lt. Mark A. Peterson was pilot, and Capt. George W. Morris the co-pilot, of an OV10A aircraft with the mission of locating two downed Navy pilots on January 27, 1973 within hours of the signing of the Paris Peace Accords ending American military involvement in Vietnam. When the aircraft was over Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam, it was hit by enemy fire and both Peterson and Morris were forced to eject. Both safely parachuted to the ground and one was in radio contact with rescuers. However, neither could be located or rescued, apparently because of the enemy situation.
