Nothing makes me happier than to contemplate nature and to paint it. Henri Rousseau
The Artist
Le Douanier, which means customs official, a position far grander than the one he actually held. His simple job of collecting taxes on goods coming into the city allowed him to support his wife and nine children, while giving him time to pursue his true passion art.
From his stations at the toll gates at the Auteuil Embankment and the Vanves Gate, Rousseau observed the world around him and filled numerous notebooks with drawings. He noted that "my superiors at the tollgate used to assign me to less demanding duties so that I would find it easier to work." At age forty-nine, Rousseau retired from the customs service to become a full-time artist. He settled in the Plaisance section of Paris a poor working-class neighborhood behind Montparnasse. Here he found a one-room studio where he was surrounded by his art.
Although he often copied art in the Louvre, Rousseau was essentially self-taught. He frequently strolled through the suburbs of Paris, sketching from nature. He wrote: "Nothing makes me happier than to contemplate nature and to paint it. Would you believe it that when I go out in the country and see all that sun, all that greenery and all those flowers, I sometimes say to myself: 'All that belongs to me, it does.'"
Rousseau's explorations included visiting the hothouses at the Exposition Universelle in 1889 and the Jardin des Plantes, a botanical garden in Paris which also houses a zoo. There, he was able to study and draw exotic plants and caged animals. Rousseau's interest in nature was translated into paintings that reveal his keen attention to the individual details of leaves and trees, and to various species of exotic animals.

A rt and Fashion
"out of season"
paintings
.Thus I dared looking for those "common values" in the world of Fashion among many people who hold out without having to rely on an understanding. The outcome is amid paintings and sculptures "out of season" dedicated to abstract expressions levity and photo advertising important pictures, objects and perfumes play and strangely enough to some elderly portraits ......so is there really a necessity for a subject? Viag giare Turismo e Alberghi Rousseau, Henri was born and trained in Paris, where he studied first with Charles Rémond, then with Guillon Lethière. At an early age he began working from nature, inspired by the Dutch seventeenth-century landscapes he saw in the Louvre. He first exhibited at the Salon in 1831, but he had little success with his non-Academic landscapes until 1849, when he won a first-class medal. After the Revolution of 1848, Rousseau settled in the village of Barbizon with Millet, Daubigny, and others of the group that came to be known as the Barbizon School. Rousseau
France
Naive Art:
Rousseau, Henri known as Le Douanier Rousseau (1844-1910). French painter, the most celebrated of naïve artists. His nickname refers to the job he held with the Paris Customs Office (1871-93), although he never actually rose to the rank of `Douanier' (Customs Officer). Before this he had served in the army, and he later claimed to have seen service in Mexico, but this story seems to be a product of his imagination. He took up painting as a hobby and accepted early retirement in 1893 so he could devote himself to art. His character was extraordinarily ingenuous and he suffered much ridicule (although he sometimes interpreted sarcastic remarks literally and took them as praise) as well as enduring great poverty. However, his faith in his own abilities never wavered. He tried to paint in the academic manner of such traditionalist artists as Bouguereau and Gérôme, but it was the innocence and charm of his work that won him the admiration of the avant-garde: in 1908 Picasso gave a banquet, half serious half burlesque, in his honor. Rousseau is now best known for his jungle scenes, the first of which is Surprised! (Tropical Storm with a Tiger)
