Amateur Astronomy Magazine is no longer the new kid on the block. After nine years of publishing articles about telescopes, telescope making, and observing, we have gained the respect and readership of astronomers from around the world. We have recently switched to all new digital printing, and our print and photo quality is remarkable. Check us out. Our Quarterly format is a combination similar to "Telescope Making" and "Deep Sky", two very popular magazines that are no longer published, (only because they were not profitable enough for a large
company to take seriously.) If you have missed our first eight years of articles for, by, and about astronomers, observers, and their telescopes, you have missed most of what has been happening in the real world of amateur astronomy.
We carry articles that the real amateur astronomers of the world are interested in reading - not articles that are aimed at newsstand market, or professional astronomers. We do not offer the flash of the larger magazines. Instead of having a two page graphic heading a 500 word article, we run the whole 3000 word article so you can read what the author wanted to say. Instead of having a few paragraphs and one photo about an amateur star party, we run a 10 page article with 30 photographs, showing the site and most of the interesting telescopes there. While we cannot print one or two expensive color photos, we are able to publish 15 black-and-white photos in their place. Each issue contains 68 pages - and less than 8 pages contain advertising. We only carry enough ads to help pay the bills. We are subscriber supported. That means that we can say what we want. If a reviewer does not like a product, we can say so, since we don't have to bow to the almighty advertising dollar.

Better yet, you can subscribe for one or two years, and if you are not happy with your first issue call and cancel your subscription, and we will refund the balance of your subscription minus $5 for the sample issue. The Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association is a group of people that want to share their interest in the sky. General meetings are held monthly, and frequent observing sessions are scheduled at dark sites. Our members vary in expertise from beginner to professional. Don't feel that you need to own a telescope to belong to the TAAA! Many members attend observing sessions to get a feel for the kind of telescope they may someday like to buy or make. Some members have little interest in observing, but enjoy the monthly lectures. A growing number are using computers to learn about the night sky. There are those who try their hand at astrophotography or telescope making. Our public star parties help introduce the glory of the night sky to school kids and the general public. The TAAA makes Astronomy fun for everyone. Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association contact us at... taaa@seds.org Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association P.O. Welcome to my collection of (very) amateur astrophotography. Although I was a professional photographer for many years, I find the techniques of astrophotography a great challenge. My camera equipment consists of Nikon FM2, FM10and Nikkormat EL 35mm Cameras, 35mm, 50mm, 200mm and 500mm lenses, and a Hasselblad 500c with 80mm lens. I use my Vixen SP R150S Newtonian and Meade ETX 90mm Maksutov telescopes mainly from my light polluted back yard in surburban Sydney, Australia. I have recently aquired a Phillips Vesta webcam, and plan on eventually using this for CCD imaging of the brighter celestial objects.

Amateur Astronomy has been a hobby of mine for about as long as I can remember. I've always had an interest in space and science. There are a lot of good astronomy web sites out there, but many just show what can be done, not how. Here, the budding astronomer will be able to find the information they need, in what will hopefully be an easy-to-understand format. With that in mind, I have tried to refrain from using a lot of formulas and cosmological theories on my web pages. While interesting, they add a lot of clutter that could confuse and bog down the reader. I believe all the information on these pages is accurate. If an error is found, I would appreciate being notified.
