Academics Admissions Student Life ... Faces at Bates Archive Introducing the 2002 Alumni Trustee Candidates
Vote, Bobcat, Vote!
Each year the Bates College Board of Trustees elects two Alumni Trustees to serve five-year terms on the Board of Overseers. This slate of four candidates, presented by the Alumni Council of the Alumni Association, is your opportunity to nominate two candidates for election as Alumni Trustees. Additional ballots have been sent to those households where more than one Bates alum resides. If you have any questions about the process, please contact the Alumni Relations Office at 207-786-6127 or alumni@bates.edu. In January 2002, he joined Cubist Pharmaceuticals as president and chief operating officer. In addition to traveling extensively with his family, Mike serves on the board of the Greater Boston YMCA and helps coach a soccer team of 12-year-old girls. A biology major at Bates with a minor in chemistry, Jack Keigwin was a member of the state champion football and track teams, a laboratory assistant, and proctor of Smith Hall. After graduating with honors, he joined a major chemical company as a technical representative. Jack soon realized that corporate America was not his calling, and he elected to earn his M.B.A., which he did with distinction from Harvard University. He teamed with a fellow entrepreneur in a start-up packaging company, became president, and grew the business rapidly. After this business was sold, Jack sought new challenges abroad, starting a yacht manufacturing enterprise in Hamburg, Germany. This business was also subsequently sold, and upon his return to America he purchased a dormant family construction business. Jack and his wife, Beverly, have built this business into one of the larger and more successful real estate development companies in southern New England.

GRIDIRON GREATS - A prestigious coaching staff will teach the Oaks Christian High School football team. They are from left to right: Mark Warrick, Clint Cummings, Mark Bates, Kyle Cummings, Darryl Eisner and Bill Redell. Look for a separate profile on Redell in next week's edition of The Acorn.
Head coach Bill Redell is a former national coach of the year for high school football. Bob Richards was the CIF coach of the year in 1987. But the list of top-notch coaches on the Oaks Christian football team doesn’t end there. Bob Bates, Lion offensive coordinator, was CIF Coach of the Year at L.A. Baptist in 1993. Along with the rest of the Oaks Christian High School (OCHS) staff, Bates knew that the first few seasons would be difficult for the new school. But he also knew it was a chance that couldn’t be passed up.

Bill Bates named special teams coordinator
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio today named Bill Bates as special teams coordinator. He succeeds John Bonamego, who served as the special teams coordinator in 2002. Bates, 43, served as the assistant special teams and defensive nickel package coach for the Dallas Cowboys for the previous two seasons. He was one of the most popular and productive players in the history of the Cowboys franchise after playing and coaching for 20 years. In 2001, Bates moved into his special teams position after spending one year as the secondary coach in 2000. In his first year guiding the Cowboys nickel package, the club saw opponents' third down conversion percentage drop from 40.4 percent in 2000 to 35.5 percent in 2001. In addition, the club finished with the third best pass defense in the league for the second consecutive year, surrendering 180.6 yards per game. Overall he helped the defense improve from 19th in 2000 to fourth in 2001. In 2000, his first season overseeing the secondary, Bates helped the Cowboys defense finish the season with the third best pass defense in the NFL. Dallas closed out the year surrendering only 168.3 passing yards per game. They were also one of only three teams (Tennessee and Kansas City) to not allow a 300-yard passer.

(January 24, 2003) With just two days left before the team has to turn in its final 24-man roster, the Orlando Predators made a significant move towards that number by waiving six players.
