          History
Since the NCAA was originally organized to regulate big-time college football, it's ironic that it has no national championship for major college football teams. However, the NCAA does conduct post-season championship football tournaments for its smaller member schools. Football playoffs began in 1964 when the NCAA established four regional championship games for what were then known as its "College Division" members. In 1969, the College Division was split into two groups, Division II and Division III, each with its own regional championship games. The first national football championships took place in 1973, with the winners of the regional title games moving into the semi-finals in each division. Lousiana won the first Division II championship and Wittenberg was the first Division III champion. Another major realignment came in 1979, when the NCAA established a Division I-AA for schools that have strong over-all athletic programs but aren't among the major football powers. The Division I-AA football tournament was inauguarated that year. Like the other two, it begins with four regional championship games leading up to semi-finals and then to the national championship game.

History
In 1938, the National Football League established the Joe F. Carr Trophy, named for the league's president, as its MVP award. The trophy was discontinued after the 1946 season. There is no longer an official NFL award. United Press International in 1953 began presenting a Player of the Year Award. The Associated Press followed suit in 1957 and the Pro Football Writers Association initiated a Most Valuable Player award in 1976. Since 1959, the Maxwell Club of Philadelphia has awarded the Bert Bell Trophy as its most valuable player award. United Press International also began giving an AFL Player of the Year award in 1960, when the league began play. With the AFL/NFL merger in 1970, UPI began giving two Player of the Year awards, for the National and American Football Conferences. Beginning in 1983, the UPI chose separate players of the year for offense and defense in each conference. The UPI awards were discontinued after the 1996 season.

Oct. 31, 2001 The Game The Teams : After winning four of its first five, the Blue Jays have dropped two straight and had their hopes of grabbing a share of the Centennial Conference title dashed with last week's loss at Dickinson. The Diplomats have dropped 17 of their last 18 and 11 straight against Centennial opponents. Note of the Day : A win assures the Blue Jays of a winning record on the season. This would be the eighth winning season under head coach Jim Margraff in 12 years. In the 17 years prior to Margraff's arrival, Johns Hopkins posted six winning seasons. The Coaches : Johns Hopkins is coached by Jim Margraff Margraff guided the Blue Jays to a school-record-tying seven wins in 1996, 1997, and 1998 to record the winningest three-year period in school history. Margraff's .560 winning percentage ranks third among JHU coaches who have coached 20 or more games.

HALL OF FAME ENSHRINEMENT CAMPAIGN
The Pro Football Hall of Fame and Museum in Canton, Ohio was established to provide a permanent place of honor and recognition for the men who have left an impact on the game of professional football. Until three years ago, the Hall contained tributes to three Vikings alumni: Alan Page, Fran Tarkenton, and Harry P. "Bud" Grant. In 1998 Paul Krause, the great Vikings safety and all time NFL interception leader, was finally elected into the Hall. In 2001, Ron Yary also took his well deserved place in the pantheon of the leagues greatest players. The unusual length of time which elapsed between Krause and Yary's retirements and their induction is indicative of a pattern for some reason, be it oversight or prejudice against non-Super Bowl winners, deserving Vikings alumni have been continually excluded from the Hall. The most glaring examples are Jim Marshall, Carl Eller, Mick Tinglehoff, Joey Browner and "Benchwarmer Bob" Lurtsema (Just kidding! Love ya Lurts!). The dawn of the Information Age has spawned unprecedented communications capabilities for NFL fans. Just take a look at how many Vikings web sites there are. Now, Vikings fans from across the globe are able to network like never before; this has become especially important for non-resident fans, who until now had to rely on scattered reports and short ESPN clips to keep abreast of their beloved Purple and Gold. More importantly, we now have the ability to work together to lobby for the recognition our heroes deserve!

The fifth-annual 7-on-7 State Championship provided its fifth different state champion earlier today, with Katy Cinco Ranch holding off Abilene 42-36 in the championship game in Kyle Field in College Station.
