Walt Frazier: One Magical Season and a Basketball Life
By Walt Frazier with Neil Offen Ranking This was pretty good reading. It's a good book to start with, if you are going to read about the 1969-70 Knicks. It's not as detailed, so it's a good foundation. He wrote this book almost 20 years later, so he doesn't have the detailed day-by-day reporting. He tells his life story and covers the season, but not necessarily in detail. During the chronologically, he inserts the stories from the past and even after 1970, such as when he was traded to Cleveland for his final year (he seemed a little bitter toward Willis Reed about this). After the season is over, he gives a quick chapter on
what he's done since he's left basketball. He also tells his opinion of late 80s basketball players and his advice for defending them, along with his choices of greatest basketball players ever. The back contains 4 pages of statistics from that season and Frazier's career. The book reads very quickly. Introspection: 2
Insight: 3
History: 1969-70 mostly with 1968-1978 also.

I would like to introduce you to the Walt Frazier Youth Foundation by first telling you some things about my own background that you may not know. I was born and raised in Atlanta, in a very large, close family of modest means. While I was always good at asserting myself in basketball, I was painfully shy and unsure of myself in many other ways. In fact, without basketball, I might not have had the background or self-confidence to pursue another kind of profession. O ver the years

Miller coached the Wichita State Shockers for 13 seasons (1951-64), compiling an overall record of 220-133 and a league mark of 81-75. His teams captured the 1964 Valley regular-season title and finished second three times (1954, 1962 and 1963).
The 1954 Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year, Miller powered the Shockers to the NCAA Midwest Regional final in 1964. WSU - which had advanced with an 84-68 win over Creighton - lost to Kansas State, 94-86, in the regional final.
A 1942 graduate of the University of Kansas, Miller still ranks fourth on the all-time Missouri Valley Conference coaching win list and his 13 years of service ranks third on the all-time league longevity chart.
Following the 1963-64 season, Miller became head coach at the University of Iowa and compiled a 95-51 record in six seasons, including a 20-5 mark in 1969-70 and a trip to the 1970 NCAA Tournament.

Walt Frazier Frazier had a tremendous career that included collegiate exploits with Southern Illinois and a 13-year run in the NBA with the New York Knickerbockers and Cleveland Cavaliers. Frazier played two seasons at Southern Illinois (1964-65 and 1996-67), collecting 884 points for an average of 17.7 per game eighth-best on the all-time Saluki list. In 1967, Frazier led Southern Illinois to the National Invitation Tournament title. He earned All-America honors as a senior in 1967, and the New York Knicks made him their first-round pick (fifth overall) in the 1967 NBA Draft. He started slowly, averaging only 9.0 points in 1967-68, but midway through that season, William Red Holzman took over as Knicks head coach and emphasized the aggressive defense that was Frazier's strongest suit. Frazier and teammate Phil Jackson, future head coach of the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers, were named to the NBA All-Rookie Team at season's end. Frazier presided over the Knicks for 10 years from 1967 to 1977, and he left holding team records for points scored, assists and games played. Frazier later spent portions of three seasons with Cleveland, ending his career in 1979 with a lifetime average of 18.9 points per game in 825 regular-season games, and 20.7 points per game in 93 playoff contests.

He played for 10 seasons (1968-1977) with the New York Knicks, was voted to the NBA All-Star and All-Star defensive teams for seven straight years and was the All-Star team's MVP in 1975. In 1987, Frazier was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. These days, he's teamed up with Just For Men haircolor to raise money for his own charity, the Walt Frazier Youth Foundation. Beginning on April 22, men can log on to www.justformen.com to be entered into the "Play Away the Gray" sweepstakes for the chance to win $2,500. For each person who enters the sweepstakes, $5 will be donated to Frazier's foundation. Send your questions and comments in to Walt Frazier now.
Comment from Walt Frazier: Most people know about my athletic prowess, but not that I'm a parent and one of nine kids. I formed my foundation to reward kids for being good students and to mentor kids, give internships, etc. I've been a spokesman for Just For Men, and we found out we had something in common that kids are a great natural resource. Everyone who logs onto www.justformen.com and views the videotape of me coloring my hair can win $2500 in a sweepstakes.
