Begginings:
BC Partizan 1952 BC Partizan 1962 The Making Of a Giant: BC Partizan 1979 The New Dream Team: The following year (1989), reinforced by the talented Predrag Danilovic, Partizan prevailed in the Korac Cup for the third time in its history, beating Viva Vismara Cantu. After losing the first game in Italy (76-89), Partizan rooted the Italians in Belgrade (101-82) after formidable performances of its stars. That season also saw Partizan’s "Dream Team" beat Jugoplastika Split (87-74) in the national cup final. With its world-famous reputation Partizan was more than attractive for young Yugoslav talents. On the other hand, it suffered from the exodus of its stars to wealthier European and even NBA teams. Vlade Divac and Zarko Paspalj left for the NBA in 1989 and along with the late Drazen Petrovic, became the first Yugoslav players in the World’s strongest league. Later the NBA got to know Aleksandar Djordjevic and Predrag Danilovic which makes Partizan the only European club to have had four of its former players to have played in the NBA.

Miller Leads USA 22 and Under Team over Yugoslavia
MELBOURNE, Australia - Texas Tech senior Cory Carr (Fordyce, Ark.) scored a team-high 18 points and the United States (1-0), behind a 25-1 first half scoring spree, broke open a close affair and sailed on from there to record a 95-75 victory over Yugoslavia (0-1) Friday night in the first game of the FIBA 22 and Under World Championship in Melbourne, Australia. "I thought this was a very hard fought game and I was proud of our players from staying with it after Yugoslavia made its run in the second half," said USA head coach Rick Majerus. "We made a concerted effort to try and substitute early and then we didn't take any timeouts in the first half because we felt we were in better shape in term of our substitution pattern. We made our foul shots (16-of-21) and we had a lot of assists (17). I thought our team shared the ball very well." The two teams battled evenly for the first half's first 10 minutes and with 8:35 to play in the opening half the USA trailed 25-20. With American center Brad Miller (Purdue/Kenalville, Ind.) scoring eight points early in the run, the U.S. romped on a 25-1 scoring run to take control 45-26 with 2:21 left before half. By half, the U.S. led 50-33.

PRIZREN - At least 100 civilians were killed and over 50 wounded during the bombing of the village of Koris near Prizren early on Friday morning, Kosovo-Metohija provincial Civil Defense Center said. According to the Center, it is feared that human toll could be twice as much, since NATO warplanes struck a refugee column of 500 ethnic Albanians who, fleeing NATO bombs, were heading for Albania. NATO's air strike against the wider area of the town of Prizren, according to the Center, lasted from 1:00 to 4:00 a.m.

    Western Alliance Bombs Its Protegees
BRUSSELS - NATO spokesman Jamie Shea admitted on Saturday that NATO warplanes had hit the separatist Kosovo Liberation Army-controlled area of Kosare next to the Albanian border on Friday. Citing Albanian sources, international news agencies reported that NATO had bombed the Kosare watchtower on the very border with Albania that had been taken over by the ethnic Albanian separatists. A considerable number of the KLA fighters were killed during the attack. "NATO hit that target assuming that it was still under the Yugoslav army control," said Shea.

      • Pipped at the post: Both Turkish representatives suffer single-point defeats after leading; Galatasaray women trounced on the road
Turkish Daily News Ankara- In EuroLeague basketball on Thursday, both Turkish representatives lost matches they had earlier led and should have won. Playing in Greece against Olympiakos Piraeus in Group A, Efes Pilsen found itself a single point in arrears at the interval but came on strong at the start of the second half to take a 7-point lead at 45-38 after eight minutes. But the beermen could not maintain the momentum and the match went into its last minute with the scores tied at 60-60. Serbian forward Dragan Tarlac was the hero for the host, settling the final score by converting one of two shots from the foul line to give Olympiakos a 61-60 win. Tarlac had a total of 19 points for the match, but Efes playmaker Petar Naumoski top-scored with 20.
