Our favorite point guard is chosen for the NBA All-star game again! Last year he was the first Canadian to be chosen for the All-star team, and a herd of family members followed Steve to Philadelphia to cheer him on at the All-Star Weekend. This year Steve gets to celebrate being on the No. 1 NBA team, and being able to play again with NBA favorites this coming week. Steve talks about his growing excitement....
"I remember as a kid growing up taping the All-Star games and watching them on TV, and to be out there playing is surreal. What is amazing is that I really thought I would be out there one day and to actually be out there is such a crazy feeling that the dream actually did come true.
Being on the All-star team is a great honour. I think when I look back on my career it will mean a lot more than it does now. Right now, I'm so involved in the team and trying to do better. The Mavericks have worked really hard and come from the bottom and worked our way up pretty high now so we're trying to just continue to get better and give our team a chance to win a championship. I love the fact that all these different NBA players can go play in the all-star game together. My family and friends are very excited about the game, and a lot of them will probably come out to Atlanta to watch.
Next week, I look forward to just really having some fun out there and not have so much pressure and urgency."

Steve Nash Launches Youth Basketball Program in British Columbia
November 2001
Vancouver, B.C - Steve Nash of Victoria, B.C. and guard for the National Basketball Association's Dallas Mavericks and the Canadian Olympic Men's Basketball team today announced his partnership with Basketball B.C. to sponsor a youth basketball program across British Columbia.
Formerly known as the Junior Grizzlies Basketball program, the Steve Nash Youth Basketball Program is administered by Basketball B.C. and delivered to youth participants aged 6 to 15. There are over 8,000 young participants who enjoy learning in communities throughout B.C. led by trained volunteers and coaches. Youth discover competition, challenge, sportsmanship, core skill development and most of all fun playing in the Steve Nash Youth Basketball program
"This is where I learned the game of basketball," said Nash. "I wanted to say thank you. Steve Nash Youth Basketball is one way I can give back to the place that helped foster the development my skills. By participating in this program I hope to encourage many more kids to love the game of basketball."
"This is truly a tremendous gesture which will have a lasting impact on the sport of basketball in our province," said Basketball B.C. Executive Director, Mike Hind. "Steve has allowed our organization to continue to deliver quality basketball programs to youth."

Posted: Friday February 09, 2001 12:06 PM Steve Nash doesn't worry about what you think. The Dallas Mavericks ' point guard refuses to style his hair (he doesn't even own a brush!), favors baggy jeans and oversize sweaters to Armani suits, and didn't get rattled when Dallas fans booed him during his first two NBA seasons. "He just doesn't care what other people think of him," said his teammate and off-the-court buddy, Dirk Nowitzki . "He has his own style. It's the '70s style or the '80s style, or I don't what it is. He's just loose." Raised in Victoria, British Columbia, Nash worshiped Wayne Gretzky, but he also is fascinated with soccer his father played professionally in South Africa and England. A sore hamstring kept Nash out of the Mavericks' lineup for a Feb. 5 game with the Hawks, but he was healthy enough to play 10 Questions with CNNSI.com.

Age Place of Birth : Johannesburg, South Africa Hometown : Victoria, BC Height Weight : 195 lbs Years on National Team Guard Steve Nash is Canada's most talented player and one of the rare down to earth stars in the NBA. He averaged 8.6 points per game, 4.9 assists and shot 40 percent from behind the 3-point line for the Dallas Mavericks in 1999-2000. In April 2000, Nash started Dallas' 10 games and averaged 13.6 points and 7.9 assists. He joined the Mavericks on June 24, 1998 in a trade from the Phoenix Suns. He was drafted in the first round, 15th overall, by the Suns in 1996.
At the Olympic qualifier last year he averaged 12.2 points, 5.8 assists and 4.5 rebounds and was named the tournament MVP. His presence on the Canadian squad gives Canada hope for a medal. Not only does he provide Canada with a defensive and offensive threat on the floor but his enthusiasm about competing at the Games should be infectious.
