This site is awesome. I'm not a huge Lakers fan, but I've been a Kurt Rambis fan all my life. I wore #31 in high school in honor of him, and I was fortunate enough to meet him 4 years ago. I was able to not only get 2 autographs from him, but I was also able to get a picture taken with him. He was really, really friendly. I showed him a picture of me in my high school basketball uniform wearing #31. As he was walking away he said, "Thanks for wearing my number! I like that!" What an awesome guy! It was too bad that the Lakers didn't keep him on as head coach, but I'm sure he'll find another head coaching job soon. Good luck Kurt, and keep up the great work Laker Jim.

CIF/CENTRAL COAST SECTION
BRIEF WRITTEN HISTORY OF
CCS BOYS BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Special Thanks to John Spalding and Don Nash
for compiling this information! By Don Nash, 1999 The Central Coast Section boys basketball tournament was inaugurated in 1968, just two seasons after the section was formed. To many area basketball fans, it was an extension of the Peninsula Basketball Tournament which had been bringing the area's league championsall part of the North Coast Sectiontogether for nine years. Through the years, the format has varies and with it the number of teams competingranging from 11 the first four years to 86 in 1988, the first year of five-division play. In the earlier years, the leagues were assigned to georgraphical regions and regional championships were held before the sectional championships. Presently, the CCS champion in each division automatically qualifies for the CIF Northern California playoffs and a chance at the state championship. Only two teamsWillow Glen in 1969 and Palo Alto in 1993finished the season undefeated. Palo Alto won the State CIF Division 3 title but Willow Glen's effort came before state playoffs. The top individual scoring perfomance was 51 points by Willow Glen's Brad Quinet in 1992 against Burlingame. Kurt Rambis of Cupertino scored 50 in 1976 against Ravenswood.

Pre-Game Interview
November 11, 2000 Paul Sunderland:
So those ugly black glasses are gone for good. Kurt Rambis will be without specs forever and a day. And the man he has to thank for that, Dr. Andrew Caster, is our very special guest. We welcome you. Kurt Rambis a study in bravery going under that surgery, no doubt about it. We're joking a little about it, but so many world class athletes are having the procedure. But you know a lot of everyday spectators out there are watching. Who's a real candidate for this procedure?
Dr. Andrew Caster: Paul, anybody who wears glasses or contact lenses in order to see well far away is a candidate for the procedure. But not everybody who wears glasses or contacts will want to have this procedure, because some people for certain technical reasons won't be good candidates. It's really important that they have a very thorough check-up with somebody who's really experienced before they have the procedure.
Kurt Rambis: Well doctor, I've been wanted to ask you this for a long time. How did this procedure come about? I mean you cut a part of the eye, you zap it with a laser and I can see better. How did all that come about?

  • Sample Messages 1. INTRODUCTION The object of the Simulated Basketball Association (SBA) is to assemble a roster of current NBA players which is superior to the rosters of the other teams in the SBA. 2. TEAMS AND ROSTERS There are 12 teams in a league. The league is composed of two six-team divisions, the Mikan Division and the Cousy Division. Each team is comprised of 11 NBA players. 3. SBA - FOR FUN ONLY There is no real money involved in the SBA. References to "money" or "dollars" in these rules refer to imaginary units, not cash. 4. GENERAL DRAFT RULES : (a) A player draft is conducted during the off-season. (b) Players' salaries will be determined based on the round in which they are selected, according to the following schedule: (e) 5. SBA ECONOMICS 6. GAMES (a) Games will be simulated based on a program which takes into account assists, rebounds, shooting frequency, field-goal percentage, free-throw percentage, and three-point percentage of each player on the floor at any given time, as well as turnovers, blocks, and steals. (b) The categories listed above are taken into account as follows: Assists : A team with lots of assists among players currently on the floor will experience a positive adjustment in field-goal percentage for its players. Too few assists will result in a drop in field-goal percentage. A team with many assists will also suffer fewer turnovers, as they have players with good ball-handling skills.

March 9, 1999 Worthy, a three-time NBA champion with the Lakers, is one of DIRECTV'S MEGA MARCH MANIA spokesmen. (Allsport) 'Big Game James' was the moniker that friends and peers nicknamed James Worthy. The former Los Angeles Lakers forward who is remembered for his breathtaking athletic skills, effortless glides to the hoop and one-handed tomahawk jams is now delivering the action from the 'big games' in CBS Sports' broadcasting booth. Worthy, a member of three NBA championship teams (1985, 1987-88), the NBA 50th Anniversary All-Time Team (1996) and seven NBA All-Star Games (1986-92) stopped by to chat live with CBS SportsLine fans on Tuesday, March 9 and gave his prognostications on who he thinks will win it all! In 1981-82, Worthy, a junior at North Carolina, was part of one the greatest teams in collegiate basketball history, a squad that included Sam Perkins and Michael Jordan. Worthy shared national Player of the Year honors that year. His team reached the 1982 NCAA Championship Game. He was at his best in the biggest game, scoring 28 points on 13-for-17 shooting and making a key steal of a Fred Brown pass to seal North Carolina's victory. By the time Worthy retired from the NBA in 1995, he owned a Most Outstanding Player Award from the 1982 NCAA Final Four and a Most Valuable Player Award from the 1988 NBA Finals. He was the ultimate clutch player with a career postseason field goal percentage of .544 that ranks among the top 10 on the NBA's all-time playoff list.
