Home Basketball is a world-wide sports game; it is the kind if sports that the players try to get a ball into a basket; it is so popular that you cannot believe. The US is the world of basketball, and the NBA can really rock you up. As a business, NBA sure makes tons of money; as a sports association, NBA is simply the center of basketball for the whole world. However, "Roman is not built in one day." NBA was originally formed from BAA (Basketball Association of American) in 1946. To find out more about the league's history, click here There are over 400 players in NBA. They are all basketball geniuses. And of course, the fans enjoy more about the breath-taken-away performance from the best of the best. For example: Do you know who they are? The cartoon is kind of ugly, but I figure that you can probably tell who is who already (from left to right: Jason Kidd, Michael Jordan, Shaq O'Neal, Tim Duncan), got them right? Tons of slam dunks is another feature in NBA. No doubt that "Air" is not just for Jordan. Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Jason Richardson, Steve Francis, even Shawn Marion, they are all great.

When he was still a child, he showed great interest in basketball. He was also the tallest kid in his age group and when he was seven, he was sent by his father to a professional training school. In 1991, at the age of 14, he was selected by the Army to play on the youth team. In 1993, at the age of 16, Wang Zhizhi was selected for the youth team. Coaches and fans alike raved about his excellent performances. In the following year, he began his professional career. But life was not all plain sailing: injuries, the enemy of all athletes, plagued him. Six years ago, 17-year-old Wang Zhizhi went to Malaysia to play in the Asian Youth Basketball Championship. He grabbed the attention of coaches and sports reporters from many countries. People predicted that in a few years, this basketball genius would become the best center in Asia, maybe even the world. On June 30, 1999, the Dallas Mavericks drafted Wang Zhizhi. Only 22 years old, Wang became the first player in Asia to be drafted by an NBA team.

Wang, 7-0, was originally selected in the 36th overall by the Mavericks in the second round of the 1999 NBA Draft. One of China 's most promising basketball players, Wang has earned the attention of the basketball world with excellent performances in each of the past two Olympic Games. At the 2000 Olympic Games, he averaged a team-leading 13.5 ppg and added five rebounds while playing only 26.8 minutes per game. He shot 53.7 percent from the field and 90 percent from the free throw line. He scored a team-high 13 points against the United States in the only game the two countries played. The giant center led China in scoring in three of the six games, including a team-high 19 points in a 75-60 win over New Zealand, notched a team-high 10 rebounds in a loss to France. In the 1996 Olympic Games, he averaged 11.1 points and 5.6 rebounds.

A statement issued by CBA says Wang has repeatedly turned a deaf ear to official calls by the CBA to return to national duties. He missed last month's World Championships as well as the ongoing Asia Games. The statement says for the past 5 months, the CBA has been urging Wang to return to the team. However, Wang has acted solely for personal gain, and has overlooked the interests of the team and the nation. His indiscipline and absence of professional standards are unacceptable. CBA officials say all Chinese athletes must learn from Wang's case and think of the needs of the nation as well as themselves. They advise Wang to change his mind before it is too late. Twenty-five-year-old Wang Zhizhi is the first Chinese-born basketball player to appear in the NBA. He signed for the Dallas Mavericks on a one-year contract in 2001, and joined the Los Angeles Clippers after his contract expired last week.

According to Wang's adviser, Simon Chan, the tension Wang created between the Mavericks and the Chinese Basketball Association when he refused to return to China in May has all but forced the Mavericks to sever ties with the 7-foot-1 restricted-free-agent center. "Wang doesn't want to leave Dallas, but there's a 99 percent chance he's going to leave," Chan said. "For the sake of the Mavericks' relationship with China, they may let him go." Chan said he believes in the next five to 10 days, the Mavericks will work out a sign-and-trade and ship Wang to either the Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, Toronto Raptors or Orlando Magic. Chan also said Wang has no plans to defect to the United States.

"If we get Redd, I would say there is less likelihood we would match [Wang's] offer," Mavericks president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said Wednesday. And the Mavericks will know where they stand on Redd before deciding whether to keep Wang. Redd, a restricted free-agent guard with the Milwaukee Bucks, signed an offer sheet with the Mavs for three years and approximately $12 million Monday night. Wang signed an offer sheet with the Clippers three years for approximately $6 million Monday as well. The Mavericks have 15 days to match the Clippers' offer or lose Wang without compensation. The Bucks face the same predicament with Redd. Though both players signed the same day, the 15-day period starts once the teams receive the contract paperwork.

Way out west in La-La land basketball disciples swarm to the eastern practice of Feng Shui in a fanatical effort to become one with the hardwood. They clear their minds to gain more profound knowledge of the triangle offense. They strive to replace ancient hair-pulling rituals with a more reasoned awareness of just what the heck Phil Jackson is doing with their beloved Lakers.
Way down south in the land of cotton Don Nelson, Mark Cuban and their blue-and-green collar Dallas troops will have none of this sissified, Brie cheese eating gobbledy-gook. For the Mavericks Fung Shui is out and Wang Zhizhi is in.
That's right, Wang Zhizhi. Wang as in "Walking Great Wall" of China. Zhizhi as in "I'm much bigger than you," and "What are you going to do about it?"
23-year old Wang Zhizhi has been a 7'1" stalwart of the Red army's Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) for years now and he is coming to America to prove once and for all that there is a place in the NBA for he and his countrymen.
Many international experts now agree that China is behind only the U.S. in regards to basketball talent. The old international powers of Yugoslavia and Russia will soon find themselves falling behind China as reigning world round ball powers. China is doing an excellent job of combing its burgeoning population for the size it needs to cultivate world-class hoops teams.

Wang Zhizhi, on the sidelines As Shanghai basketball ace Yao Ming makes his debut in Houston, Wang Zhizhi contemplates a life on the bench, shut out of the Chinese national team for non-attendance of the Asian Games The world of basketball will discover on Halloween if a trick or a treat has been delivered from China. That's the day (China time), when Shanghai native Yao Ming makes his highly anticipated debut for the Houston Rockets. And it's not any ordinary debut. Yao was the first overall pick in the 2002 NBA draft and just signed a three-year deal with an option for nearly US$18 million. While the 7'5" (226 cm) Yao has impressed many observers at international tournaments with his athleticism and fine passing and outside shooting, skeptics still abound. The naysayers concede that Yao is good - and could be great. But as a 22-year-old project that needs years of development, he's still a huge gamble as the top pick in the draft. Chief among the concerns are how well Yao's slender 296 lb. (134 kg) frame can stand the long, punishing NBA schedule and whether he can mix it up with the likes of Shaquille O'Neal under the basket. The Rockets plan to give him time though, gradually increasing his minutes as the season progresses. Playing down expectations should help as he adjusts to his new teammates and living in the States.

"But the referees might never seen those NBA stars were blocked like what we did to them in the beginning of the game, so they were too sensitive to that." Yao said. Known as the "Walking Great Wall", Yao Ming and his teammates Wang Zhizhi (2.15 meters) and Menk Bateer (2.11) form the tallest front lineup in all the 12 men's basketball team in the Sydney Games. Yao and Wang shocked the sluggish American NBA stars when they helped China to lead 13-7 and 17-16 in Sunday's game but the leading only stood for some five minutes when Wang Zhizhi picked up his fourth personal fouls and Yao collected two, most of them
