ABOUT US CONTACT US FIND YOUR SPEAKER ... Search for another speaker Jerry West Category: Basketball, Hall of Famers In brief In 1960, when the Lakers moved to Los Angeles from Minneapolis, they were joined by a rookie guard from the University of West Virginia. In the ensuing four decades the fate of the team and that rookie, Jerry West, have gone hand in hand. Fee Range: Please contact us for fee info
The impact that the Lakers have had on the city of Los Angeles, and that West has had on the Lakers, have been profound. The fate of the team and the man have evolved to the point where, to many fans, the two have often defined each other.
Former General Manager of the Los Angeles Lakers, West was very successful with the Los Angeles Lakers, first as a player, then a coach, and finally an executive. Of course, Jerry’s Hall of Fame credentials as a player need no further explanation, while his most recent achievement in his "second" career certainly substantiates Mr. Clutch’s membership in the fraternity of outstanding front office personnel.

UCI Basketball: Commentary - 8/19/01
A Rising Tide
Robert C. Carden IV
It has been a time since I could actually get excited about an upcoming UCI Basketball season. Typically, I must temper my anticipation with trepidation, fearing once again that my hopes would be dashed just as the season begins. This year proves to be different. UCI won the regular season Big West championship, while failing to win the Big West Tournament.
The good thing in all of this is that most of us long-time fans are willing to put the past behind us and look forward to the future. For a while, back in May and June of this year, we had a scare when Jerry Green announced his entering the NBA draft. He ultimately was not drafted, and under a special loophole provided by the NCAA, it looks like since he did not hire an agent, and since this is the first time he entered the NBA draft, and since he gave notice to UCI that he intended to return as well as pay back expenses he incurred, Jerry Green will return to UCI to play his senior season. Assuming that, let us consider next year.
UCI Preseason Prospectus
Gone from last year's 25-5 squad are Ben Jones, Sean Jackson, and Malachi Edmond. All three of these players started during various parts of the season, though Malachi Edmond eventually lost his starting position to freshman Stanislav Zuzak. All three of these players will be missed, though I do believe that most outsiders are overestimating our loss.
