chess with Vladimir kramnik Vladimir Kramnik upholds the classical tradition and beauty of the game of chess. His style is known to be universal and is highly positional in appearance. Just as the classical champion's self control and psychological strength allow him to be flexible and tactically very sharp. The capacity for hard work at the board and laid-back objectivity make it almost impossible to break through his concrete chess. His well mannered and unassuming style disguises the fact he is the best chess player on the planet. Here you find a celebration of his victories and little else. You are welcome to recommend additional material.

A Statement of Classical World Chess Champion Vladimir Kramnik
Less than one month after signing the Prague agreement I find it necessary to clarify my position in order to avoid misunderstandings and to comment on certain statements made during the last few days.
1. I reaffirm my intention to fulfill the agreement made in Prague on 6th May supporting the idea of reunification to be achieved after both the Einstein Classical World Chess Championship Match and a FIDE World Chess Championship.
2.I again declare my willingness, under reasonable conditions, to participate in a reunification match as described in the Prague agreement which would be against the winner of a possible FIDE cycle (or against the winner of the proposed match between Ruslan Ponomariov vs Gary Kasparov) provided that I am successful in my own World Championship Match.
3.Contrary to some statements and reports which have misinterpreted the Prague agreement I did not give up the title of Classical Chess World Champion which is based on 116 years of chess history and which is also respected in the Prague agreement. My match against the winner of the Candidates Tournament in Dortmund will be a Classical World Championship Final and not a semifinal. I made some concessions at Prague which have never been made by a Classical World Champion before in order to support the unification process. These were; accepting Ruslan Ponomariov as a Chess World Champion and therefore giving up draw odds from the unification match onward and giving up my right to be seeded automatically into the finals of future cycles.

Vladimir Kramnik, the New World Chess Champion
Vladimir Kramnik played a draw on move 38 in game 15, defeated his rival, Kasparov, and grabbed the champion in World Chess Championship closed in London.
Vladimir Kramnik was born on the 25th of June, 1975 in Tuapse on the Black Sea. His father is an artist and a sculptor and his mother is a music teacher.
By the age of 5, Kramnik was already attending chess clubs run by chess professionals. By the age of 11, Kramnik was awarded the title of a candidate master. A little later he joined the famous Botvinnik school. He then went on to win the World Cadet Championship and the World Junior Championship. In 1992, he was part of the winning Olympiad team in Manila, as their 1st reserve. He had the best overall score of 8.5/9 In 1994, he was again a part of the winning Olympiad (held in Moscow) team. This time he played in Board 2 and had a score of 8/11.

Vladimir Kramnik on
situation in FIDE

The quotes from the interview, given for
Vladimir KRAMNIK: (...) The FIDE has taken an obligation in Prague to establish a professional structure in charge of holding world championships. However, nothing has been done: the FIDE is not going to part even with a tiniest fraction of its power. Neither of the obligations that the FIDE pledged to in Prague was fulfilled though more than half a year has elapsed.
(...) I witnessed the methods used by the FIDE in Wijk aan Zee and just wondered. The FIDE must alter something in its structure, replace people and change the mentality. A straightforward pressure was applied on Ponomariov which is absolutely unwarrantable! I am not in the know of all particulars but most probably I would have behaved myself in a similar way being in Ponomariov's shoes. When one sees that all terms are dictated by your adversary in the world championship match and that all organising structure also takes his side, everybody would hate it. I believe this to be the main reason why the problems with the match originated.
