Irina Krush
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Irina Krush December 24 - ) is an American chess player. Born in Odessa USSR (now in Ukraine ), she is widely known for her series of chess training videos, the "Krushing Attacks" series. Krush gained a measure of fame both inside and outside chess circles during the well publicized " Kasparov versus The World " chess competition in 1999. Garry Kasparov played the white pieces and the Internet public voted on moves for the black pieces, guided by the recommendations of Krush and three other young chess experts. On the tenth move, Krush suggested a stunning novelty, for which the World Team voted. Kasparov said later that he lost control of the game at that point, and wasn't sure whether he was winning or losing. In addition to discovering a new move, Krush displayed great patience, tact, and generosity while participating in the bulletin board discussion of the game. Due to her social skill and tireless work on behalf of the World Team, she gradually became the focus of all the team's analytical efforts. The analysis tree she maintained gained considerable authority, and the recommendations therein were chosen by the team for more than twenty consecutive moves. Even grandmasters rated considerably higher than her began making primary reference to her analysis tree.

IRINA CRUSHED BY MARTHA by Sam Sloan
At the New York Open, held on April 5-7, 1996, it was no great surprise that there were two girls in the experts section, although that would have been a surprise not so many years ago. However, it was a surprise when both girls won both of their first two games.
Irina Krush, rated Chess Master
After that, in one of those fiendish computer created coincidences, they were paired against each other. (Again, only a few years ago, before there were computers, the diabolically minded tournament director would have done that on purpose.) Naturally, a lot of interest developed in this game and a big crowd gathered. I am sorry to say, however, that it was just a krush. Irina simply let Martha, 18, have too much in an early stage of the game, and Martha just rolled her up, or blew her off the board or however you want to put it. But, cheer up! Irina is only 12 years old, and, with a USCF rating of 2110, there is still some hope left for her. As for Martha, her story did not have a happy ending either. She remained near the lead until the last round. Then, in the last round, with the first prize of $8,000 at stake (by the way, that is Eight Thousand Dollars, this is not a typo) Martha was paired against Justin Sarkar, another student of her own chess teacher. (Ever wonder how these little kids get to be so good? They all have chess teachers!) Martha and the little boy she had to face in the last round are both trained by International Master Rafael Klovsky, whereas Irina is trained by Michael Trosman. (Don't try to look up these names in the rating list, because I don't believe that you will find them. You will just never guess where all of these professional chess trainers come from.)

When Rusudan Goletiani arrived in New York City on a direct flight from her Republic of Georgia on Friday May 12, she was unknown in America, in spite of having won the World Chess Championship for Girls Under 14, the World Chess Championship for Girls Under 16, and the World Chess Championship for Girls Under 18 in successive years. UPDATE: On the Official FIDE website, Rusudan Goletiani is listed as qualified to play for the Woman's World Championship . See Zone 1.5
Rusudan Goletiani
Hopefully, this will change soon. Born on 8 September 1980, in Sukhumi, Abkhazia, Georgia and rated 2325, she is now the number 12 player in the world on the official just released FIDE top-20 girls list. She has traveled extensively and has won three world chess championships. In 1994, she won the World Championship for Girls Under-14 in Hungary. In 1995, she won the World Championship for Girls Under-16 in Brazil. In 1997, she won the World Championship for Girls Under-18 In Yerevan, Armenia. Perhaps even more impressively, she won the Soviet Junior Championship for Girls Under-12 in 1990 when she was only nine years old!

Kasparov vs. the World 22 October THINGS GET UGLY This was supposed to be the greatest battle in the history of chess: World number one, Garry Kasparov, taking on all comers in an online competition at Microsoft's Gaming Zone. Instead, it has turned into a virtual mudslinging contest. A little background: The match started June 21, with Kasparov playing the white pieces and the World Team, coached by teen chess stars Etienne Bacrot (16), Florian Felecan (19), Irina Krush (15) and Elisabeth Pähtz (14), playing black. The time control is one move a day, giving each side 24 hours to ponder their decision. The World Team's move is decided by registered members casting their votes, and the move receiving the majority vote is subsequently played. Simple enough, wouldn't you think? Not by a long shot! OK, things were running along smoothly for quite a while. The World actually giving Kasparov a run for his money, as Irina Krush, who seemed to be the only one taking this coaching business seriously, managed to get her moves elected 95% of the time. Krush spent several hours every day analysing the game, and her analysis and arguments were most convincing. At move 50, Kasparov had an obvious advantage in a rather messy Queen-ending, but most experts seemed to think black might hold with accurate play. And that's when the fun started:

Q. When did you take up chess?
A. We came basically from the Soviet Union, Ukraine and my father initiated me into the game at the age of five. Q. How do you like India and this event?
A. This is my third visit to India. Earlier once were in 1998 in the world junior Girls where I got the bronze medal and then in the 2000 world championships in New Delhi where I defeated Zhu Chen in the first round. I like to come here and like the country very much. I like the ambiance here and though I have not left the hotel much I like to go out and see the ‘monkeys’.
Q. What is the situation of chess in the USA?

Late one chilly Autumn evening, a cluster of men at the venerable Marshall Chess Club in the Village are playing speed chess, trying not to seem anxious, looking for any excuse not to play Irina Krush. A 17-year-old self-described 'chess nut' and internationally recognized master, Krush is expected to play that night against a dozen players in a simultaneous exhibition. 'I would sign up to play her," says club manager Larry Tamarkin, "but I don't want to embarrass myself any more than I have to." The collective fear of Krush is not altogether unfounded. She admits that her talent for the game can put people off. "It's gotten so that when I meet people now, I don't even tell them what I do," Krush explains. "More than 50 percent of my life is playing chess. So to leave that out when I meet someone, well, that's a big part of me to leave out." Just a year ago Krush became the youngest female international master. In 1999, she and three other young players faced off against three-time world chess champion Gary Kasparov in a match followed by thousands around the world. Though the official title of the Internet tournament was "Kasparov v. The World," the match was quickly dubbed "Kasparov v. Krush," because she so dominated the play. In 1998, at the age of 14, she became the youngest woman ever to win the U.S. Women's Chess Championship.

It was again her trusted Caro Kann that fetched her the full point. Notably this is also her second straight win over Irina Krush, whom she'd also defeated in the World Juniors previously.
