  • Summer's here, and that means Free Agent time is here. Rumours have been going around about Coffey coming to the Leafs from Carolina, and apparently, the rumours aren't that far fetched. In a CTV sportsnet interview, Coffey said he'd like to play for Toronto if the opportunity arose. Slam! sports is also reporting that along with Coffey could come Gary Roberts. Coffey had 11 goals and 29 assists in 69 games this past season, and says "I feel like I'm skating better now than I did when I was 25 years old." I, for one, would love to see Coffey come to Toronto. He could add that experience our defencive corps needs.
  • Here's a list of available free agents (thus far): Vladimir Malakhov Kevin Hatcher Sean Hill Dallas Drake Rob Brown Mike Eastwood Kevin Stevens (no drug jokes...please!) Valeri Zelepukin Stephane Richer German Titov Stephane Matteau Rick Tocchet

Complete History 30 Greatest 1982 Playoffs ... 1994 Playoffs Calgary
First Round - vs. Calgary Flames

[Unknown] VS. CONFERENCE QUARTER-FINALS Walking into this first round series, the relationship between the Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames could be described as hateful. Even before the series began, Canucks tough guy Gino Odjick got the snow ball rolling. "A lot of their guys depend on Sandy McCarthy. I'm sure it helps a guy like (Gary) Roberts, who is chippy and plays dirty, but he'll never fight anymore. If Sandy wasn't there for him, he would spend a lot of time getting pounded in the head." The Canucks were, without question, the favourite... to be fried by the Flames. The Calgary Flames were strongest where the Canucks were weakest: in the position of center ice. The Flames had Nieuwendyk, Reichel, Titov, Otto, Kelly Kisio and Wes Walz. Not to mention all star wingers Gary Roberts and Theo Fleury. The series presented a unique opportunity to compare the possible outcomes of the Petr Nedved deal. Nedved was originally going to be dealt to Hartford for Michael Nylander, Zarley Zalapski, and James Patrick. However, that deal was cancelled because behind Pat Quinn's back, the St. Louis Blues signed Nedved to a multi-year contract. Nedved, of course, was eventually given to the Blues for Jeff Brown, Bret Hedican and Nathan Lafayette. However, shortly after trading Nedved, the Calgary Flames made the deal for Nylander and the two defenseman.

“Gagner retires to the ice” Former NHLer gets down to business by Allan Maki “It’s a portable, affordable way of having a rink, and if it’s not what you want, it can be sold to someone else.” - Dave Gagner Dave Gagner is making a hockey comeback. No, not a playing comeback. After 15 years in the National Hockey League, Gagner is the first to admit his best goal-scoring days are behind him. But the Vancouver Canucks’ centre who retired last fall is now trying the business side of the game with an artificial-ice company that is hoping to strike a deal with the town of Penetanguishene , Ont., and its maximum-security mental health centre. Gagner’s Custom Ice, based in Burlington , Ont., could be the solution to Penetanguishene’s hockey rink needs. The town has only one covered arena and one outdoor rink. Increasing demands and mild temperatures this past winter cut into the outdoor rink’s availability for recreational skaters. It also affected the 29 hockey-playing patients at the mental health centre. The hockey program has been offered to patients for more than 50 years and has proven to be a positive outlet, said Paul Henry, who works in the centre’s psychology department and is the former director of player development for the Florida Panthers.
