Wolverines, Spartans to Battle It Out
By Bill Greer
Staff Writer Michigan Wolverines The Wolverines, who lost only twice in their final 15 regular season games, ran into trouble against Nebraska-Omaha in the playoffs and then failed to get by Maine in the NCAA Tournament last season. During the summer, leading scorer Mike Comrie departed for the Western Hockey League. Michigan, however, remains the coaches' choice to win the CCHA. On offense, the Maize and Blue have great balance starting with seniors Mike Kosick, Josh Langfeld and Scott Matzka, (each tallied 30 or more points last season). Complimenting the trio of seniors are sophomores Andy Hilbert and Mike Cammalleri, who both put up double-digit totals in goals and assists last year. Senior Geoff Koch and sophomores Mark Mink and Jed Ortmeyer will also be counted on to contribute offensively for UM. The Michigan blueliners are led by one of the nation's best defensemen in junior Jeff Jillson. The Hobey Baker candidate has it all a 6'3", 220 lb. frame that creates a punishing presence on the ice, as well as the ability to contribute offensively (26 assists in 1999-2000). Newcomers Mike Komisarek and Andy Burnes are sure to see some time as well.

New acquisitions make immediate impact
By Pete Krupsky
OHL Beat
The Whalers' trade deadline acquisitions of Chris Thorburn and Nick Vernelli from Saginaw paid instant dividends.
With both new players in the lineup, Plymouth won twice at the Compuware Sports Arena, defeating Windsor, 4-2 on Jan.10, and then Sarnia, 4-3, the following night.
Plymouth is now battling Kitchener and Ottawa for first place overall in the Ontario Hockey League.
The playoffs are two months away, but both games had a playoff-like intensity. Truth is, Plymouth could play division rivals Windsor and Sarnia in the middle of summer on a parking lot and there would be hard feelings.
Chad LaRose, Ryan Ramsay and Karl Stewart continue to lead the team offensively, but Plymouth is getting contributions from everyone on the hockey club.

Welcome to the second annual Can-Am hockey tournament at Stanstead College. It is a pleasure to host this exciting tournament with schools from both sides of the 49th parallel. Since our founding in 1872, our school and community have been closely linked to our American neighbors, especially in Vermont. In fact, today Stanstead College is the only secondary school in North America with some thirty students who cross the border daily to attend school. So naturally we are excited about this bi-national competition. My special thanks to Stanstead parents and alumni who have contributed countless hours of time in an effort to make this a special weekend for all participants.
We look forward to healthy and entertaining competition on the ice. I also hope that during the weekend's activities, players, coaches, parents and other supporters will be able to meet one another and form new bonds of friendship. We appreciate your participation and hope you enjoy your stay at Stanstead College.
Sincerely
