World Champions What's New First played in 1920 as part of the Summer Games when the Winnipeg Falcons, representing Canada, won the Gold medal. In 1948 the USA submitted two teams, one selected by the Amateur Hockey Association, the other by the US Olympic Committee. Trade Defenseman Peter Smrek
ST. LOUIS, Mar. 5, 2001 - St. Louis Blues senior vice president and general manager Larry Pleau announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Alexei Gusarov from the New York Rangers for defenseman Peter Smrek. Gusarov, 36, (6'2", 200 lbs.) has played in 34 games this season and has recorded one goal and four assists and 12 penalty minutes. He started the season with Colorado and played in nine games and recorded one assist. Gusarov has played in 25 games with the Rangers this season and has recorded one goal and three assists and six penalty minutes. He was a member of the 1996 Stanley Cup Champion Colorado Avalanche and a member of the 1998 silver medal Russian Olympic squad. Gusarov has played in 590 career NHL games and has recorded 39-124-163 points and 307 penalty minutes. Smrek
