Welcome to The Unofficial Curtis Joseph Web Site! Last Update: 8/11/02 The Unofficial Curtis Joseph web site is dedicated to Cujo's tenure with the Edmonton Oilers. Joseph recently signed a 3-year, $24 million dollar contract with the Detroit Red Wings, ending his 4-year stint with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 1998, the Oilers surprised many by dropping the Colorado Avalanche 4 games to 3 in the first round of the playoffs. A huge factor in that historic upset was Edmonton's goaltender, Curtis Joseph. Joseph shutout the Avalanche in games 6 and 7. In the second round of the playoffs, however, the Edmonton Oilers lost to the Dallas Stars in 5 games. Cujo was strong in the series but was unable to lead his team to victory. Joseph finished off a great season as the number one netminder in Edmonton. During the offseason, Curtis Joseph signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs, a great rival of the Oilers. Cujo's contract with the Maple Leafs upset many of his fans in Edmonton. However, the Oilers were not financially viable to keep Cujo in Edmonton so his departure was inevitable. He signed a 4-year contract worth a reported $24 million dollars.

Whether he's stopping pucks, helping out the rookies, defending his territory, or taking out the referees, he gives it his all, and has yet to be rewarded with a Stanley Cup. Stories Curtis Joseph Curtis Shayne Joseph Born: Keswick, Ontario, April 29, 1967 Curtis Joseph was not selected in the NHL Entry Draft but signed as a free agent with the St. Louis Blues on June 16, 1989 after an all-star season with the University of Wisconsin. He made his NHL debut on January 2, 1990 and picked up his first win on January 30. He went on to record 100 victories faster than any other goalie in Blues history (209 games). In international hockey, Joseph won a silver medal with Team Canada at the 1996 World Championships and was named to the tournament's second all-star team. Curtis Joseph Curtis Joseph was born on 4/29/67 in Keswick, Ontario. He is 5'10'' and he weighs 182 pounds. His catcher hand is left. His hockey number is 31 and his hockey nickname is "Cojo". He went to high school in Huron Heights (Newmarket, Ont.) and then he went to college in Wisconsin. The year he was drafted by the NHL was 1989 and they knew from the day he was drafted that he was going to be a great goaltender. He proved how good he was during the 1992-93 season when he was just in his third year in the NHL. Hhe faced a record of 2202 shots and still led the league in save percentage. Curtis Joseph was signed as a free agent by St. Louis on June 16, 1989. He first appeared in his first NHL game on Jan. 2, 1990 when St.Louis was playing against Edmonton. His first win came on Jan. 30, 1990 vs. NY Islanders. Curtis Joseph's first shutout was recorded Dec. 19, 1991 against San Jose. Entering the 1995-96 season, he was 7th among active NHL goaltenders in career winning percentage at .577. He reached 100 wins in fewer games than any other St. Louis goalie, needing just 209 games. JAMES Detroit Free Press DETROIT Standing by his locker in the Red Wings' dressing room late Monday afternoon, goaltender Curtis Joseph faced a barrage of inquiries and deflected them with seasoned ease. Joseph will start Tuesday night against the Nashville Predators when the Wings resume their schedule after the All-Star break. It will be his first game since he gave up three goals Jan. 25 at Calgary, which dropped him to 3-6 with a 3.12 goals-against average in January. The Wings finished the month 5-7-1-1. Asked how he thought he played the past month, Joseph said, "Some good games, and some games where we didn't win. Could have been better." Joseph, 35, was benched for the two games before the break. He revealed this about the conversation he had on the matter with coach Dave Lewis: "I talked to him. He's very open for communication. I talked to him, and that's great. There should be an open line of communication, and that's what it was. It's perfect." Before the break, Lewis said he hadn't decided if Joseph would play tonight, but the decision was made by Friday morning.
