27. Moog, Andy
When asked why he traded for moog, Bruins GM Harry Sinden Sinden's judgment was soonproved correct as andy brought his exciting style of hockey to Boston.
http://www.bruins-legends.com/M/moog.htm
Number:
Born: February 18, 1960 Penticton, British Columbia
Position: Goaltender
Catches: Left Profile prepared by: Stephen R. Salhany
E-mail: salhany@bc.edu When the Bruins went looking for goaltending help during the stretch run of the 1987/1988 season, they turned to Andy Moog, and for the next 5 seasons, he provided the best goaltending work the Bruins had seen since the days of Gerry Cheevers. Andy was originally drafted out of the WHL by the Edmonton Oilers with their 6th round pick (132nd overall) in the 1980 Amateur Draft. In perhaps a preview of his future work as a Bruin, Andy first broke into prominence by leading the young Oilers to an upset 3 game sweep of the highly favored Canadiens in the opening round of the 1981 playoffs. It wouldn't be the first time that Andy thwarted the Canadiens in the playoffs during his career. Sinden's judgment was soon proved correct as Andy brought his exciting style of hockey to Boston. Andy developed his goaltending style from his father, Don, who was an outstanding amateur goaltender. Andy's other defining influence was his idol, Gump Worsley, whose picture Andy kept in his locker at the Boston Garden. Andy first came into the league with cat-like reflexes and a lightning-quick glove hand. As he gained experience, he augmented those skills with superb positional play and an aggressive approach, as well as an uncanny ability to control rebounds. Although not a big man, Andy used these attributes to make the goal appear much smaller to opposing shooters. His mask design reflected his feisty demeanor in the crease, with a snarling bear head that represented his competitive nature. Winning was all that mattered to Andy.

CHA NAMES ANDY MOOG AS GOALTENDING CONSULTANT
CALGARY, AB - The Canadian Hockey Association named Andy Moog as a goaltending consultant for Canada's Men's Olympic Team and Canada's National Junior Team, the CHA announced on Wednesday. Moog, 41, will assist the Men's Olympic Team in assessing the goaltenders who may play for other countries. With the National Junior Team, Moog will assist the coaching staff led by Stan Butler, of the OHL's Brampton Battalion, in coaching and evaluating the goaltenders during the team's Selection Camp in December, 2001. "Andy's background in international hockey and his current responsibilities with the Vancouver Canucks make him a perfect fit for this role," said Wayne Gretzky, Executive Director of Canada's National Men's Olympic Team. "As we prepare for Salt Lake City, Andy will provide us with valuable information on each country's goaltending which plays such a critical role in the outcome of any game. Let's face it, with shootouts being part of the game, it's vital that we know the tendancies of every goaltender."
