New Hampshire ice hockey defeats Clarkson, 4-2
Prudden notches two goals and an assist
DENVER - Senior Joshua Prudden scored two goals as New Hampshire (11-3-2) defeated Clarkson (5-9-1), 4-2, in the first game of the Denver Cup in Magness Arena on Friday night (Dec. 27).
New Hampshire wasted no time getting on the board as Prudden's wrist shot beat Clarkson goalkeeper Dustin Traylen only 24 seconds into the contest. Lanny Gare registered his team-best 18th assist on the play. The two teams played even hockey for the rest of the first period with each squad notching nine shots on goal. The Wildcats held a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.
The first nine minutes of the second period were very similar to the end of the first, with both teams holding their ground defensively. Brian Yandle broke the 30-minute scoring drought with a power-play goal at 8:59. Yandle's first collegiate goal beat Traylen high clove side after a feed from Gare. Both teams had many scoring chances throughout the rest of the period, but neither team was able to capitalize. The period ended with Clarkson on a power play, but UNH was able to hold on to its 2-0 advantage.

No. 2 New Hampshire men's hockey defeats Clarkson, 5-2
Abbott and Callander each tally three points to lead Wildcats
DURHAM, N.H. Senior forward Jim Abbott (Mars, Pa.) and sophomore forward Preston Callander (Regina, Sask.) each tallied three points, both tying career highs, as No. 2 University of New Hampshire defeated Clarkson University, 5-2, in non-conference play Friday night at the Whittemore Center Arena.
The Wildcats (10-2-2) took the early lead at 2:29 of the opening frame, scoring their 11th power play goal of the season. Junior forward Nathan Martz (Chilliwack, B.C.) potted his fifth of the season when he knocked the puck past Clarkson netminder Mike Walsh. Sophomore forward Justin Aikins (South Surrey, B.C.) and junior defensemen Tim Horst (South St. Paul, Minn.) were given the helpers. The Golden Knights (4-7-1) knotted the game at 1-1 when Jay Latullippee beat New Hampshire netminder Mike Ayers (Hingham, Mass.) for his fourth goal of the season at 4:38. Chris Blight and Mac Faulkner assisted on the play.
Abbott scored his third of the season, lifting the puck over the shoulder of the Golden Knights goalie and giving the Wildcats a 2-1 with 4:14 remaining on the clock in the opening stanza. Sophomore forward Sean Collins (Reading, Mass.) and Callander were credited with the helpers.
