www.cupstuff.com The National Hockey League ( NHL ) was formed in 1917 after its predecessor the National Hockey Association suspended operations during the early part of World War I. From 1917 to 1926 the champion of the NHL would play the Pacific Coast League champion for the Stanley Cup. In 1926 when the PCL folded, the NHL took permanent control of the Stanley Cup. Many teams moved or folded with the onset of the Great Depression and by 1942 there were only six teams remaining. The period from 1942-1967 is known as the era of the Original Six teams which included Toronto, Montreal, Boston, Detroit, Chicago and New York. The NHL expanded to 12 teams during the 1967-68 season and has grown to include 30 franchises today. Cupstuff offers a wide selection of NHL hockey merchandise and apparel. Cool is the word that describes the new Darcy Tucker Bobble Head Doll. This bobble head highlights Darcy Tucker skating in his Toronto Maple leafs Road blue uniform down to the very last detail. Each bobble head doll is hand painted and has the appropriate jersey numbering, crests and "Tucker" above the number 16 on the back. The helmet has the Maple Leafs decal on each side, his number and the NHL shield decal at the back. The base of this bobble head doll looks like the ice surface at the Air Canada Centre complete with nets, markings and glass. These bobble head dolls have incredible detail and weigh over one pound each! Each Darcy Tucker Bobble Head Doll is numbered (out of 5,016) on the bottom and is endorsed with symbols of both the NHL and NHLPA.

I'll let the letters speak for themselves, but in response to the many people offended that The Sporting News allowed opinion in a story, I'd like to say that opinion in columns is not only OK, it's encouraged. Features will be balanced and without opinion, but columns can and will have an opinion based on the facts (although whether I saw the facts correctly in this case is apparently doubted by many). And so, here is a sampling of what I've been reading the last few days:

    51. DESIRE 5 HOCKEY

    http://www.geocities.com/desiredoucette/desire5.html
ANYONE LIKE HOCKEY? To all the Leafs, thank-you for a wonderful season. Happy retirement Dom! Thanks for all the good years you tended goal. What do I like about hockey? Well besides learning to skate before I walked, the rink is my favorite place to be regardless of who's on it. I used to watch a lot of it when I was younger. Our home team is the Toronto Maple Leafs. Eric Lindros was big news when the season started last year. Being from London Ontario, he too grew up on the rink. When he was snatched up by the New York Rangers I was pretty disappointed, I really wanted to see him play as a Leaf. When the news was going on about him, I teased people wondering if we could get Troy Aikman here to QB for the Argos! The concussion thing makes me think like that. In today's game, our team is into the playoffs, and I still think Darcy Tucker is in the net more than the puck. Poor Cujo's hand...ouch, mine's been dislocated, I can only imagine. Another funny hockey quirk is the way we say Mats Sundin's name. Is the S pronounced in Mats? Everyone always says his full name here, and it's been my query!
In the old days, when Rick Vaive was captain, I met a few players. John Anderson (Who had girls snipping his hair while he signed autographs...poor guy) Paul Higgins...the largest knuckles I've ever seen on anyone. Now he was a cool guy, the Domi of yesteryear! Mike Palmateer was goalie...but Borje Salming was who I caught the cold from. He borrowed my pen to sign a few aughtographs, and I picked it up from him then.

Tuesday, April 15, 2003 DEPARTMENTS ATHLETES DIARY FROM: Darcy Tucker DATE: Interview Darcy Tucker is a scrappy winger with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Although he's only 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, the native of Castor, Alberta is fearless on the ice. Tucker is known to be one of the NHL's premier agitators, both physically and vocally. He's also talented offensively and was second on the team in scoring last year. The interview below took place the day after practice on Monday. The questions asked were submitted by fans. Q: The first question comes from Ann Violette of Mississauga, Ontario: Is it just selfish or is it every forward's need/wish to be a goal scorer? A: Obviously you like to score goals but I think the number one priority is to help your hockey club win. Q: The next question also comes from Ann Violette: How do you help yourself or help a teammate who is pressing for that first goal or pressing to get to that next milestone goal or is pressing to improve their stats from the previous year? A: Encouragement is always a great thing to have but I don't think anybody pays too much attention to personal goals. I think everybody is out there trying to win the hockey game and if there comes a time when maybe there's an empty net or whatever you try to pass it to the guy.
