Contact 2003 Canadian Figure Skating Championships January 15, 2003 Article © Golden Skate Photos Barry Mittan G allery Results The 2003 Bank of Montreal Canadian Figure Skating Championships ended on January 12 with the final home competitive performance for Canadian ice dancers Shae Lynn Bourne and Victor Kraatz. The world silver medalists set a new standard with their tenth ice dancing senior gold medal at Canadians, the most in any of the four disciplines. They left with a standing ovation from the audience and a string of nine perfect sixes from the judges for their free dance. At the gala, the couple thanked the Canadian fans for their unwavering support throughout years of adversity. The dance event was the climax of a great week of skating that saw new champions crowned in men as Emanuel Sandhu replaced the retired legend Elvis Stojko atop the podium and in pairs as longtime competitors Jacinthe Lariviere and Lenny Faustino finally reached their golden goal. Another new record was set in ladies by Jennifer Robinson , who won her sixth gold medal to stand alone in that category among Canadian women. Robinson also extended her record of nine straight podium finishes at Canadians.

Markham Skating Club Ice Shows MSC Home History of the Markham Skating Club Ice Shows The first ever Markham Skating Club Ice Show was produced in April 1965 entitled 'A Visit to the M-K Farm'. It was a one-day event and featured over 200 skaters. Approximately 1500 spectators watched the show and thus began the 35 year history of the show. From 1965 - 1978 it was a yearly event growing audience of up to 2500 people eagerly awaiting the big event. In 1971, the show was cancelled due to lack of funds. In 1978 the club decided to change to a bi-annual show due to high costs and dwindling volunteers. To date the Markham Skating Club has been proud to present 22 ice shows. Every year the Ice Show sign was displayed outside the arena to attract spectators. The sign remained the same year after year with only the date changing. Canadian Team Set to Compete in ISU Four Continents Championships February 4, 2003 - Gloucester, ON Six-time Canadian Champion Jennifer Robinson Joannie Rochette Annie Bellemare Emanuel Sandhu Looking to defend the ISU Four Continents Championships title he won last year in Jeonju, Korea is 20-year-old Jeffrey Buttle Fedor Andreev . Andreev, 20, is coming off a personal best performance at the 2003 BMO Financial Group Canadian Championships, in which he won the bronze medal. Andreev had two Senior International assignments this season, capturing the bronze medal at the 2002 Nebelhorn Trophy, and finishing in sixth-place at the 2002 Finlandia Trophy. The 2003 ISU Four Continents Championships marks his first appearance at the event. Andreev trains out of the Onyx Skating Academy in Detroit, Michigan with coach Richard Callaghan. Three Canadian pair teams will also be competing in Beijing, including the newly-crowned Canadian Pair Champions, and Lenny Faustino Coming off a successful Grand Prix season is the team of Anabelle Langlois and Patrice Archetto Also representing Canada in the Pair event is the newly-formed team of Elizabeth Putnam and Sean Wirtz . Putnam, 18, of Toronto, Ont., and Wirtz, 23, also of Toronto, were ecstatic with their bronze medal finish in the Senior Pair event at the 2003 BMO Financial Group Canadian Championships. In the senior ladies event, Jennifer Robinson placed first followed by Michelle Currie. Marina Zoueva, coach of two-time Canadian pairs champions Kristy Sargeant-Wirtz and Kris Wirtz, will relocate to the Bloomfield Hills club later this summer, said DSC executive director Johnny Johns. Zoueva, a former Russian ice dancer, has been coaching at the Minto Skating Club in Ottawa since 1991. She has worked with a number of elite skaters in her career, including 1988 and '94 Olympic pairs champions Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov of Russia. "She's real professional and she is really multi-faceted," Johns said. "She does it all." Johns said several of Zoueva's skaters, including the Wirtzes and Zoueva's son, Andreev Fedor, 1999 Canadian junior men's champion, will join her at the DSC. "She will work with all three disciplines," Johns said, referring to singles, pairs and dance. "She comes with a great reputation."

Garry and I spent most of yesterday at the rink, and we've got lots of stories to tell. I suppose the most interesting one right off the bat is about the skater being mugged, which is getting reported in some media outlets, but not all. Garry had to tell me about it..I didn't see anything written about it online when I was checkin' out what the other sports writers had to say about Day One. I'm not crazy obsessed with them or anything but hello, it was $9.99. I'll buy anything at that price...unless it's pop or a crappy band. They had the Brand New and Alexisonfire albums there and they were like $19 and $21 (or around there) respectively. And what was weird was that the Boy Sets Fire album "In Chrysalis" was like $23 at HMV yet only $9.98 at Amazon.com (even with the currency conversion, that is strange). Eeiii... most punk cds are at "regular price" and thus expensive. That sucks. I have a philosophy exam in a few days and I haven't started studying nor did I even read anything during the year lol. Except Sparksnotes.com, does that count? AHH, cramtime! Does anyone watch ? (If you haven't watched last night's ep yet, don't read on) I wonder if Kate and Jack will get together at the end of the season...or "day" actually. I found it quite funny when they were doing promos for the show and they were playing "All You Wanted" by Michelle Branch and showing Kate and Jack scenes.
